I grew up with Rotties and I've always hated the stigma that they're vicious and dangerous. If you train and raise them properly in the correct environment, they are fantastic family dogs.

Exactly and the same with pit bulls it’s down to lazy owners who can’t be bothered to put the time and effort into raising and training the dogs right and then that’s where the problems happen because there using there instincts to defend there owners

Exactly. Thanks for your message. Me to I had preconceptions before my first Rottweiler that came from a refuge. As you say "if you train and raise them properly in the correct environment, they are fantastic family dogs". My incredible boy Max, passed yesterday from osteosarcoma (bone cancer). He was 9 years old on July 15, 2021. He was my 4th Rottie in 29 years! Yes, I've had Rottweilers since 1992 back when they first began to become really popular and have never been without one since. I can't stop the sudden bouts of tears yet, I know it's too early - , but felt so much better when I found this video... just to hear someone talk about the breed I love so much. Thank you!!!!

This is my 1st one. I ve always had dobbies. But now I see there is a BIG DIFFERENCE in owning a rott. I love him now but wish I would have stuck to what I knew. He is so strong and hard to train. Or I'm just not a good trainer of this breed 😕 I had no problem with my 3 Doberman s I've trained over the last 22yrs. But I'm trying to learn about rotts so I can be a good ower.

@@sabrinaallen5518 Rottweilers can be hard headed. I only have females. I had a male many years ago. He was really big. Very protective without training for it. However, when he didn't get his way he could be stubborn. Age has alot to do with training and letting them know who is the boss. The younger the better.

@jstxr dogs that are great family pets are just like their owners. You know you should check people out before you open you mouth. Dogs have different personalities. They are similar to a toddler in the way they behave and listen to you. Look it up if you don't believe me. Take a step back and look at it. You don't have to agree or disagree just look as an outsider. Training is up to the owner as to how much. I've had great Dogs that I have trained and showed in dog shows and others who learned without training. I had a male Rottweiler once. Oso and he was massive and very obedient but was never trained. I talk to my dogs like I do friends.

These are intelligent and compassionate dogs that will do anything to please. I'm staggered by the intelligence. Your dog will learn your ways, when to be calm and when it's ok to let rip.

Our first dog was a Rottweiler! But we had a big house with garden and the whole nature around but the only mistake was not the dog, she was wonderful! It was she had no „dog friend“ on four feet!! It’s so important to have a second one…..I‘ll never do that but we didn’t know very much about that….so the only one I can say: everything you describe about Rotties is RIGHT 😂 if they are educated well they are like Teddybears ❤ Nobody would believe it! We rescued him from a home that just didn't want him as he was a burden dropped on them by that owners mother when he was 2. He's now 8 and still an awesome part of our family. Before you get a Rottweiler, study 📚 up on the breed to see if it’s the right dog for you. If you do get one the top two things you want to do is training and socialization. This is very important. A well trained and behaved Rottweiler is a absolute joy to own. One that is not can be a dangerous thing.

Thanks for getting the message out there, Collin! In my experience, Rottweilers are some of the sweetest and most loyal four-legged friends a person can have. But as with any other breed of dog, especially the energetic ones, if they are mistreated or not trained and handled properly their energy, size and strength can lead to problems. Unless you know the detailed history of the dog you can rarely be 100% sure of what will trigger a "fight vs flight" episode. With such a big and powerful dog, either of those can be highly destructive to both the dog and people who get in their way. My father always used to say that there is no such thing as a bad dog, just a bad environment. But he also used to say that sometimes you find one you cannot save, and the only times I ever saw him cry (apart from at my mother's funeral) was when he had to put down a dog that was treated so badly that they became too twisted for anyone other than he and I to handle them.

As a Rottweiler owner I find this video full of good commonsense advice. They are beautiful dogs but you do have to always be aware that they are also a very powerful guardian breed and it is up to us as owners to know our own dogs and to be aware of any potential "triggers" if you are taking them out for walks etc. Also, as mentioned in the video, adequate fencing is essential. Don't set your dog up for failure. Be the most responsible owner you can be.

@@GreenlifeFin same triggers for most dogs on walks , an unleashed dog who is aggressive who comes running up to yours , or maybe a critter , I know mine can't resist chasing squirrels in the yard , common sense stuff , but some just do not like certain people , my German Shepherds will let me know if theyre not trustworthy , my Rottie loves everyone , he will go off with the Vet and get his shots done no problem, they love him and he's good with other animals, my GS's though are a nope, just different personalities, just know YOUR dog , is the key, I've seen small dogs become aggressive around larger dogs and that can trigger your larger dog to protect you , so just be aware.

Omg I'm so happy I found your channel. I have 4 Rottweilers and a pit and they all get along so well. When I got my first Rottweiler she was so hard to train because I had zero experience with training them. I got my fourth one a few days ago and she loves her brothers and sisters. My pit is 1yrs old (girl). My first Rottweiler is 4yrs old (girl). My second Rott is 3(boy). My third is also 3(boy), and my fourth is 8 weeks (girl). My children love them and the dogs love my children. I definitely recommend getting a Rottweiler as a familiy/guard dog. Most people may say Rottweilers are vicious or mean but its really about how you train them they also need to be introduced to children at a young age.

I really enjoyed your video a lot. I have had Dobermans and then Rotts. since I was 16. Now I will be 70 in March. I just got a Rott. puppy 3 weeks ago to train to be my service dog. I lost my Rott./ Lab Service Dog to Cancer. I was really glad to see that you put all the responsibility on the people who are responsible for their Rott. People want to blame the dogs for what their trainers don't teach them. Thanks for emphasizing this point . Take care and keep up the good work, BOB.

One of the best channels I have seen on what to know about Rotties - such great advice!!! I have had Rottties and other dogs all my life, and hands down, Rotties are my favorite breed. Like you said, it is absolutely critical to socialize them at a young age, When anyone asks me about getting a Rottie I tell them to do as much research as possible, and as with any big protective breed - socialize, socialize, socialize, and not just with humans - with humans of all ages, other dogs, and other animals. Also, desensitize them as much as possible to things that might startle them when they are young - like a vacum cleaner. I also tell them obediance training is essential from a good trainer who not only trains your pup, but also trains you to train your pup. And that training is for life - reinforce that training as often as possible. Some might think this is cruel, but Rotties love to work. So anytime I feed or give my Rottie a treat, I make her work for it - it is usually a simple set of commands, like sit, lay down, head down - and then she gets her food. The only suggestion I might add is that people might want a fence higher than 4 feet and that goes underground a bit. My current Rottie, who is unbelievably agile and smarter than any Rottie I have ever had before was able to hurdle a 3 and a half foot baby gate from a sitting position at 11 weeks old. I was absolutely shocked when I saw it. Now, she can easily hurdle over a 4 foot fence, she can easily climb it, or just through her sheer power knock it down (or dig under it) depending on how it is set up. she can also easily figure out locks - so how the gate is shut is important as well. I am not sure this is typical for Rotties, I've had them all my life and have never had one as powerful or intelligent as my current Rottie. But, like you indicated, it is better safe than sorry. Thank you for posting such good information about Rotties! :)

He’s so beautiful 😭 I got him gaining weight, got his first round of vaccines and got him dewormed 🥺 he’s doing so much better and is even potty training SUPER well. He’s so smart. And he’s great with my 10 month old son. They need a lot of training and management. You must spend a lot of time with them the first 2 years and it should be intense and intentional. Unsure if this has been mentioned but the Rottweiler originated from a town in Germany called Rottweil and in Germany the dogs were and still are called Rottweiler Metzgerhund which translates to Rottweil Bucher’s Dog. The Rottweiler was used by the Butchers to herd cattle to the market then the butcher would put his sack of money around the dogs neck and then his job was to guard the money till they got back to the farm.

I will never in my life forget that bond, I've owned pits growing up but those two Rott's changed me for life, I'm 27 now and medically retired from the Army and not a day goes by where I don't dream of owning a baby boy and girl..
