Disclaimer & Important Update (as of 9-22-24): I just learned today that the FDA is currently conducting a post-market review of microneedling devices. From what I just discovered, it appears that only nano needle cartridges are permitted for consumer use; other cartridges are classified as prescription-only and available only to licensed healthcare professionals. Many websites (including Amazon and AliExpress) have stopped selling these products to consumers in the USA, and Temu is the last storefront offering them. I recently bought some supplies from Temu but they will likely stop selling these things very soon. This video was posted a long time ago when at-home treatments were widely accepted and normal. For full details and updates, please subscribe, check my website www.lifeanddiy.com and follow me on Reddit - as I will post full details and updates.

Your skin has improved dramatically. Thank you for being brutally honest. There are studies that state that it’s better to do micro needling with lower lengths than using 1 or greater.

I just got the Dr Pen yesterday. I am looking at videos that show before & afters and almost skipped yours because I'm 53 and didn't want a 20ish year old talking to me about skin care. Well, something made me stay & watch and I'm just BLOWN away that you are now 40, right? 38 at the time of this video. Your skin is really beautiful!! I really thought you were in your early 20's!! 🥰

Thank you for your kind comment! I am really happy you did stop and watch the video! You look absolutely stunning by the way. I am 40 now and was around 38 during this video. I sometimes get angry comments from people telling me I shouldn't be doing these videos and should leave it to others who are older and need this. lol so no matter how rude some comments are they are actually a great compliment to me and they always shock me or make me smile. So, thank you! If you have a minute, you can also check out my before and after photos here: lifeanddiy.com/before-after-microneedling-dietary-changes-tca-glycolic-peels-10-years/ because it shows everything I've done with my skin, changes and before and afters for a variety of skincare treatments over the last 10 years. Girl!!!! Oh my gosh! You’re my heart! So I’m turning 42 and I grew up on the beach, no sunscreen frying my skin, not taking care of myself. My young adult life was a lot of the same story. I spent some time in life beating myself up over this. I thought to myself yesterday, you know what? I had a blast! I lived my life and had so much fun. I slather my children in sunscreen now and tell them how important it is not only for their health but for their beauty. So your sentiments on all of this are awesome to me! I’m going to start a one year test with my Dr Pen, green smoothies, ice baths etc, which is why I came across your first video which had a link to this one. Figured your video was about acne or something since you look 20 🤣. Anyway, you look amazing before and after. I also didn’t start sunscreen til my mid to late 30’s . I got great results from pro needling treatments . But I’m scared of doing it myself. I have a Derminator 2 . But I’m worried that the up and down motion could cause micro tearing since we move these devices around and have no way of knowing if the needles are in or out of the skin while moving them . I have Lance Setterfield’s book . He’s a micro needling guru and he makes that same point in his book . Glad you got stellar results. Wow ! You’re gorgeous 😊

Wow what a stark difference at 8:37 !! Thank you so much for this, this is by FAR the most comprehensive before and after video I've seen on microneedling yet; most videos only show the afters after 1, or if we're lucky, two sessions...so your video & results are freaking awesome! I just love the thorough-ness of your videos in general though. I do have a few questions for you: 1) What depth did you do underneath your eyes , cuz I have a few sunspots literally in my tear troughs that I'd like to get rid of 2) What depth did you normally do on your face overall - did you keep it at 0.5 and/or did you increase the strength when you went over any scars/sunspots/lines/nasolabial folds? 3) Did you do the circular technique for the majority of these - I believe you addressed this in your older videos but just wanted to confirm 4) I know you use hyaluronic acid for these treatments but how do you feel about stem cell serums? On Penn Smith's channel she doesn't recommend them because the majority seem to be fruit stem cells? 5) Can i do this on my lips to increase the collagen? My upper lip on my left side is more uneven & I'd like to see if I can rectify that w/out fillers PS. I can't wait for your hair MN sessions! I have the same issue, and from what I've seen recommended here on KZbin, it DOES seem that you have to do the sessions at a higher depth point
@LifeDIY4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I wanted this to be comprehensive. I am glad it was helpful! I appreciate your comment! I will try my best to answer your questions. :) 1. Underneath my eyes I often did 0.5mm. If you were to have it done in an office, they would not go deeper than that generally. If I have it on a setting lower than that, I can not maneuver the pen into that area very well. So in order to get it into that skin at all, I put it at 0.5mm. I wish they had a cartridge that was not as wide so it would be easier to treat this area. I hope that makes sense. 2. On my face I normally did 0.5mm and then in areas of extra lines I would do 1 or 1.5mm briefly. I would also go deeper at 1 or 1.5mm in the area under my cheekbones as the skin can handle it fine on the lower cheeks. The very last treatment I did, I wasn't having much pain and I did a lot more of my face at 1.5mm. I am not sure what type of difference that may make but I know it isn't recommended! 3. About the circular technique - I did that a little bit and other than that I would usually go up and down and then over that area sideways. 4. I am curious about stem cell serums and products used in a professional setting. Penny mentioned in one of her videos that her office uses a specific brand called AnteAge but She said that since we cannot get that as home users, she recommends just hyaluronic serum. Turns out I researched this product she mentioned and found that they are now selling it to home users here: anteage.com/collections/microneedling/products/anteage-home-microneedling-system and I have been very interested in trying it. I am pretty sure but not totally positive this is the same one. It's the same name! So, I am interested in it. But, I also think most of the benefits from needling come from the needling itself. But, we will see! 5. From what I've learned, doing it on the lips doesn't work very well. I attempted it once and it was not very fun. The needles almost were getting stuck in my skin a little. I ended up just doing it on the area surrounding and a tiny bit into my lips. It sounds like a good concept. But, for some reason the skin is quite different there. Penny talked about this in one of her videos. I think it might be better to nano needle them. :) Also, I hope the MN hair sessions work too! I think they will but we will see. Thanks for the nice comment!

Thanks for sharing your experiences! A lot could be at play with the differences in the pictures. The time of year makes a huge difference with our skin. Winter is typically dry and irritating to skin, resulting in more wrinkles and redness. The before photo was taken in January (typically a harsh weather month), and the after in June (typically a mild month). Also, diet and drinking enough water are factors. Cleansers, serums, sunscreens, and moisturizers affect our skin. And then there is stress. All this considered, you’ve got some real improvements! I’m not sure where you learned that you need to wait so long between treatments. My understanding is that you only need to wait for the time it takes for healing the micro piercing: One week for 0.5 and two weeks for 1.0.

Your skin looks flawless!! And you look gorgeous!! 🥹❤️ Thank you for this video. 💕 One of my colleagues is starting her own cosmetic studio and she told me how micro needling can greatly benefit you if you start in your 20s. I’m very much into skin care so I hope I get the right tools to do it myself. 🤞🏼🩷

Awsome!!, thank you for sharing!! You answered many questions I had. For example the depth you would use for better results, I don’t have to experiment as you have done it for me!! Now I hope I can do it right without wandering. Thank you for mentioning the micro needling for hair grow. Now I know 1.5 is better!!
@LifeDIY4 жыл бұрын
Hi Angelica! I am so glad the video answered some of your questions. The depth question is a good one. I know most experts will say not to go deeper than 0.5mm at home for safety reasons. And, for most of my treatments on my face I did mostly 0.5mm with going deeper below the cheekbones where the skin could handle it (I would sometimes do 1 or 1.5mm) and then in certain areas I wanted to work on more - on lines, I would go to 1 or 1.5mm. My very last treatment I did which was months ago, I decided to test things by going a lot deeper than normal for a lot of my face, and did 1.5mm. I was surprised that it wasn't more painful but I feel like I've gotten kind of used to it. It seems like 0.5mm really can have great results though! :)
@35413541ful4 жыл бұрын
Life & DIY would the speed also vary depending on the depth? How did u do it? I would like to start w/ 1.5 on my deep wrinkles on my face. I wander if a 2 would be ok for the neck. I think my skin is similar to yours and I am tolerant to pain as well so not afraid as long as the results are positive and risks are moderate. Thank you!!
@LifeDIY4 жыл бұрын
@@35413541ful For me, I always did the highest speed. :) Be really careful with the neck though as the skin is different. For me, I've only done 0.5mm on the neck and I was so surprised it didn't hurt at all! I would test it out at a lower level first. :)

Just found you from Lance Hitchings channel on longevity. Never heard of micro needling - not surprising as an older man, we typically don't much care. But with the prospect of life or at least health extension, it may become more important (who wants to look 110). So thanks for the well documented introduction to this process. I'll go back through your videos for more information. However, is there a particular video I should look at, and is there a style of equipment that is best? Thanks for your help.

Hi Jason! Sorry for such a late reply! I do have a video or two showing how I microneedle at home. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZm3Y31vp9N3pLM and if you were really going to try it, you may want to check out videos by Penn Smith Skincare on youtube as she is an expert and explains it all in depth as well. That is where I learned how to do it safely. If you want something less invasive (this is invasive and painful) and super safe, an alternative is here in my video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpaygnukjad_bLM (nano needling). And you can still get great results with it. I know guys aren't usually too into skincare generally, but since you are into longevity - you may want to checkout: lifeanddiy.com/RenueSkincareBlackFriday The skincare with Alive By Science has NAD+ in it and it is a transdermal delivery of liposomes - to help get it into the skin deeply and the excess into the bloodstream. :)

Thanks Nik! I am so glad you asked about this as I am going to start treating this area. I should have done it a long time ago. A week ago I got footage of the hairline as a before video. So, I may start the treatment today there at 1.5mm since I just showered and the scalp is all clean and ready to go. I will do the brows too!

Thanks for being honest about your results and waiting quite a bit of time to really show the results. Tbh, I'd already thought your skin looked really good since I've subbed lol but now that you show the side-by-side, you can really tell the difference! Also, read the comment below about you being 38... you really do look like you're in your 20's! I'm in my 30's too and constantly get that I'm in my 20's as well hahaha

Timothy, thank you so much for the nice comment! About looking like I'm in my 20s - I know people on here are nice and say that but I think maybe the youtube lighting just makes people look a bit better! But, I still appreciate it! Though, I did have a really weird incident at a military surplus store with my son a year ago. I think it has more to do with my height though. We walked in and the guy sort of yelled to us as we entered that he needed to see our IDs. I stared at him in confusion, but ok. He thought we were 16! haha. He figured it out pretty quickly and apologized and I'm thining, "no apologies necessary," haha. :)) life is funny sometimes! You look great, fit and healthy and I think that contributes to looking younger too.

@@LifeDIY Haha I went to a movie theater with my wife to watch an R rated movie when we lived in New York City. We were in our late 20's then. The kid at the counter asked to see my ID. He goes, "whoa, you're older than you look." I took it as a compliment. Though, when I started as a personal trainer in my early 20's, I did have people decline my services because they thought I looked too young. I guess you win some, you lose some! I guess in my 20's, I looked like I was in my teens lol I guess in your situation, the person at the military surplus store must have thought you and your son were sister and brother instead!

@@TimothyLeeMSOTCPT Ok, so you totally understand! That is too funny. Being in your late 20s and still getting carded for a movie is pretty amazing! haha. Hi there, your video is super informative. What do you apply to your face right after micro-needling? And is there anything I should avoid?
@LifeDIY3 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen! For me, I just use the pure hyaluronic serum (there should be a link to it in the description) and that night I will also spray my face with water if it is sore or inflamed feeling. You might want to checkout videos by Penn Smith Skincare on youtube - as she shares exactly what to use or avoid after. I can tell you for sure to avoid vitamin C products for about 5 days.

It depends on how thin your skin is. If you are fragile skinned then be gentle. Do as many passes as you can until the skin is a bit red. Thicker skinned people can be a little more aggressive with how many passes they can tolerate. It doesn't matter what kind of pattern you use as long as your skin is nicely red w/o being bloody or deep red. I am 60 and also love the 16 pin they seem to have the oomph that I need on this older skin. Anything above that feels superficial.

Hi, I'm super impressed by the result, and thank you for your long experiment and pictures, It must've been quite an effort. I really appreciate. I have a question, it seems you don't have much acne scar(like rolling scars or pitted scars) Do you think it is going to work for acne scars? and Are your pictures taken by same device and same camera application? Thank you for your help
@LifeDIY2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the nice comment. I am so glad I did the experiment. I'm going to do an update in the near future. It's been so long and I'm still doing treatments, just not as often. For your question - I have heard that it can be effective for these types of scars. I don't know of anything quite as effective as MN for scars. I know some people do cross TCA peels. But, I've read more about MN for scars than anything else. There are numerous studies on it. Here is one study excerpt that is very promising when it comes to MN to improve acne scars: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31985622/ There were 120 patients, it was a long-term study and here are the results: Patients received one to six consecutive monthly microneedling treatments. All scars improved at least 50 percent after an average of 2.5 treatments. Over 80 percent of patients had 50 to 75 percent improvement, and 65 percent of patients demonstrated over 75 percent improvement. No significant clinical differences were observed in treatment responses of facial scars versus nonfacial scars nor between responses of atrophic acne scars and traumatic or surgical scars. For my experiment, the same camera was used but my before pictures weren't taken in the same location with the same lighting. In the future when I do a new update, the photos will really be a lot similar - meaning the lighting and setup will be much more similar so it's easier to see any changes. :)
