I'm 68. This is the first - and likely the last - video I have watched on aging skin. Chubby cheeks in youth and jowls with age absolutely run in my family, and they're showing up in spades this year. My takeaway from this "experience" is that there's nothing I can do about jowls without spending huge amounts of money on products and procedures, and even that will only bring a very temporary improvement. I already have a very basic b.i.d. healthy skin regimen, so I'll just continue that, try to eat healthier, drink more water, and spend my money on meditation classes to help me accept myself and aging as a healthy, beautiful part of life. Thanks for helping me get over that mental hurdle quite quickly.

I'm a similar age, outdoor aussie bloke and was thinking exactly exactly the same thing. Isn't this young woman's honesty tremendous, saving a lot of us considerable time and money, I like her a lot. Why does anybody want to head towards the end of their life looking like a brand new car that never left the showroom anyway? It's not half as appealing as an old jalopy covered in dings, dents, bumper stickers and 27 layers of paint attesting to the many different eras it continues to live thru.

This was such a beautiful post to run into tonight -thank you for your words that provided much perspective and real beauty. At 53 I have noticed a round face and when looking at profile from the side it seems like my chin and neck are sloping into each other -really a bummer. I have trichotillomania -no lashes or brows either -so this is just not great for my esteem. However, I will also try my best but I want to be around positive like minded people like you -too much obsession over things that really just can't be controlled.

@moonharp We are the same age - I'll be 69 in early November - and everything you said is ME! My skin is wrinkle free and smooth, except for some forehead lines, but the jowls are here to stay. My mother had them as well, with beautiful skin and few wrinkles. I am a carbon copy of my mother as far as our facial aging. I aged the same way she did. I have very high cheekbones, which helps, I think, with the "falling face," but also I've noticed my cheeks have started to not be as fulll as they used to be. I do what you do and drink lots of water and moisturize, try to eat well, and will be getting in more exercise, but I'm tired of buying things and doing things that are supposed to rid me of these "pouches." It's time to enjoy the years I have left (husband recently passed) and not worry about what I can't fix. It's not that important in the grand scheme of life.. Thank you for saying it best , and I'm sure you're a beautiful women! Blessings! +

I agree 100%. The way to start is to completely ignore men who talk about older women as if we are garbage. Too many women have been trained by opinions that should never matter... I take very good care of my skin but genetics is on my side in it's texture and coloring. Yes my face is aging but as you so wisely state, it's the elder stage where we are in are our wisest and most powerful years. This is why we are feared. Blessings ❤

ive had jowls since i was 20 ever since i got my wisdom teeth and back molars removed. the truth is.. dental work effects your face a LOT and no one is talking about it. It can also help you look younger as well, so if you had teeth removed and have lower face issues, look at getting implants or even dentures to correct.. it works well for me

There’s not much you can do about heredity, but you can create a welcoming facial facial expression. A couple of years ago, I worked to devrlooe a more positive mental attitude and aimed for a slight relaxed smile as my resting face. I’m 77 and now live alone. But I practice it as I sit at my computer, cook, or run my errands. As we get older, we tend to wear on our faces what we are thinking, and may have been thinking for years. So many wear a perpetual frown, lines of anger, depression , judgement, and life disappointment. As we get older, no matter what physical changes are happening, we can project a serenity and welcome in our facethat is gold to people stressed by life. A smile can change any face into something lovely. Believe, it takes some work inside before it shows outside. But if I can help someone in a moment to feel loved, accepted, and beautiful with a smile, I have fulfilled a desire in my older age to make a difference.

@@lesleyclaster6878 I love your attitude! Here is one added benefit of that smile; after a while it can become a smile on the inside too! Years ago when I was very depressed over miscarrying twice in a row, I learned the psychological trick of acting « as if » all was ok with my world. I won’t say that it erased all of my sorrows but it did eventually make them easier to bear! (Smile and the world smiles with you. Cry and you cry alone.)

People who are not convinced about massage, or who engage in cosmetic treatments on a daily basis, perceive it only as lymphatic drainage, not taking into account deep tissue or even bone massage in craniosacral therapy. Comprehensive manual therapy, which starts from the feet, through the pelvis, internal organs, diaphragms, skull, and the inside of the mouth, can reverse acquired changes resulting from poor posture, past diseases, injuries, muscle tension, etc., which contribute to facial asymmetry and disturbed oval. Sometimes it is worth delving deeper into the topic and not making it shallow in favor of more invasive treatments. Millions of people use manual therapies, self-massages and facial yoga, and they look better than people using aesthetic medicine. And they certainly do it in a natural way and do not interfere with the body's natural processes.

100% correct. American medicine has huge gaps filled with cluelessness. She literally discounted all of Asia as well where the women age much better. Bad diets, lack of exercise (strength training), poisoned food moving trauma and understanding body work which you described perfectly were all missing here. Appreciate your comment. I am more than double that age now and everyone guesses me to be at least 20 years younger. I think good genes play a huge part in aging as well. Thank you for your honesty. I have the utmost respect for you because of your honesty. And your skin is flawless. I don't see a jowl in sight.

I had never seen her before, but I must say that I really enjoy her delivery. Very pleasant to watch and highly informative. Also, whomever treated her - probably an assistant under her own supervision - did a remarkable and very impressive job because her face looks completely natural! Given Dr Idriss’ background you automatically assume some type of filler in the cheek, but objectively, you can’t tell. I think her customers are fortunate to have her as their caretaker!

Very informative and good. I m 46 and I had sagging jowls because of age and weight lost. The best solution I found was face excercises. That really helped me to lift those areas as I toned the muscles, and the jawline is back. I think face exercises is the best, and just being constant is the key, you really see good results. Also healthy food and much water are natural and important things that make your skin look nice. I share all this because it works great for me. Sorry my english is not very good.

@@demekaisocree3149 Basically by my mid 20s I had some very minor sagging in the jowl area, "pre-jowls" I like to call it. I wish someone told me to just try radiofrequency or ultherapy/similar tightening treatment. So what the Kybella did was it killed too much fat in my lower face and I went from having a Selena Gomez naturally round and youthful face, to a round face that abruptly looked hollow and overly narrow along the sides of the mouth and perimeter jawline, Gigi Hadid look only not natural, given my round facial structure. It just didn't look good plus the skin wasn't even completely tight after killing the fat which made me even angrier lol. So long story short... I have since gotten several PRP (prf?) treatments to restore volume to the area, and it's helped. Plus a 4 session package of in-office tightening treatments. I also purchased a few home use devices that help, and I'm one of those who has seen some modest results with Volufiline, applied 3 drops to the area mixed with a carrier oil, very pleased it actually filled my nasolabial area as well. In short.. for anyone with minor jowling I would ask your practitioner if they recommend you start with radiofrequency treatments or something not as drastic as Kybella (although RF can kill volume as well I hear, pick someone who really knows their craft)

Hello lovely ladies! A couple of things that have helped me :- sleeping on my back. Even with a soft pillow your face gets squished for several hours during the night and over time I'm sure this increases sagging of the skin and lines under the eyes. Also, good posture helps and my neck, jowl and double chin all look better for seeing a physio and exercising to stop me dropping my head forward. Also, smile a lot and nobody will notice your jowls 😊

As to your last comment, we have to remember when we look in the mirror we see something much different than others do. We're looking at a static image, for the most part, whereas others are watching your eyes, your smile and facial expressions. All of those things are expressions of personality which is the most attractive (or in some cases, unattractive) thing others see. So yes...just be happy and smile more! So glad I came across this! At 73, I must be at least in peak 5+ ! I dealt with acne in the 60’s so Ive always tried to take care of my skin. I loved skin pen treatments but stopped due to cost, Covid, and not sure of skin barrier damage as Ive been aging. I currently use good product and recently started at home skin peels, red light therapy, and micro current. I decided on no facelifts for me a few years ago, and decided to just gain skin knowledge and be my best self. I really enjoyed this candid info and now am a fan.

I really enjoyed this and found it very informative. Thank you! I'm in my 50s and recently got very sick, causing me to lose over 70 lbs, and I ended up on an NJ feeding tube for over a year. Chronic illness can wreak havoc on our facial skin, but when you lose the fat in your face and are too weak to hold the facial muscles up, helping to keep it somewhat taut...the skin itself hangs like sheets on an old clothes-line. But I can swear that it's a fact that facial exercises can and do help to rebuild the muscle tone we need in our face to help hold our skin up, if even a little. Trips to and from the Mayo clinic in Rochester have left us broke, but investing in a plumping serum has helped. A good skin care regimen, and yes, Nuface definitely helps stimulate the muscles helping to hold my skin up even if i do look like a stick. But, none of it does any good without good moisture both inside and out. Drinking water is key, and using a good fragrance free moisturizer with a decent spf. A vitamin packed smoothie, or like in my case, a "Boost" every day, has definitely helped. I'd love and appreciate a good tutorial/video lol (that's my age, haha) on chronically ill skin and / or extreme weight loss in the face!! Thank you!

Consistency is key. i just want to age gracefully. There are 2 ladies in their early 70s in my apt complex. Neither smoke ( that's a skin killer if ever was one) Both have taken great care of their skin. I find myself looking at the older 1 s'times thinking gosh her skin is gorgeous. The REAL key is their attitude. They're funny & active. Their apt is a showroom. I invited myself over a month agter they'd moved in. It was amazing what these 2 had done. 20 yr olds don't hv that type of energy. It is 60% of what make these 2 appear gorgeous at their age. That's all we can hope for. Take care of ourselves but be the person that others are drawn to. We're all going to age, we're all going to go at some point. It's the joy we bring to a room that makes you young.🎉🎉

Thank you doctor for this video. Ihave tried almost everything to look younger + delay aging as much as possible, anything from face exercises, vitamin C serum, Fraxel, collagen supplements and of course Retin A (7 years straight), home devices and what not. However, nothing made any real difference compared to the high-quality derma pen I purchased for under 100 bucks. Within 3 months of use, my skin has improved DRAMATICALLY. I don't look like I'm 18 again, but definitely not 41 either. My fine lines have disappeared completely, and my nasolabial folds are way less are nonexist (Never had jowls though). People often underestimate the power of wounding and the revolutionary effects it can have on the skin.

I would add another milestone to the aging timeline. I would add 58 or 59 years old. That is when I truly knew that there was no makeup or contour or special lighting that was going to hide the jowls. It is a hard pill to swallow because at this point you are looking old, there is no doubt, and you begin to see shades of what you will look like in another 10-15 years. For those of us who do not have money to fix this, it is a real blow and it brings home hard that you have lived over half your life.

I just noticed the jowls coming in my early 60's and same for the neck that just fell apart over night (crepey lines!). Worth reviewing her lifestyle including diet, teas?, spices?, meal timing, exercise type & frequency & history, facial expression history (ie Americans habitually contort our faces more than say, Europeans (& likely Asians & Africans), sun exposure, skincare details, sleep history, everything you can think of because you're genetically half her. And remember the old adage that if a man wanted to know how his wife would age, look at her mother. Obviously not completely true - could take after your father for example - but who better to study than your mom (& maybe then, her siblings & parents and maybe your dad & his siblings & parents)? The microbiome could end up having something to do with the appearance of aging too, not just with health, and that tends to come from our mothers and over time from our households. Best thing might be to just ask your mom what she herself thinks has helped her to stay so young-looking and then ponder if you've been doing the same or the opposite! Good luck either way.

@@puddincup9879 I think genetics play a certain role but I think that so often it’s what we’re doing or not going is the case. I have 2 sisters. They’re both almost all gray. We’re 2 yrs apart in age. I have always done 2 things that neither one of them do. I eat lots of seafood which has lots of copper & I have a reverse osmosis water system. I can’t deny that my sisters & have different lifestyle choices that curve our health in different directions. I’m able to get fat just like they’re. I’m also able to get gray hair or lose it just like they’re. I was out of my house for a year where there was no filtration system & I didn’t think much about it until I started to gray. I got back in my house & I realized that I needed a new water system & my graying came to a halt. That’s a chemistry thing that I don’t feel like explaining right now, sorry. My hair started to fall out after I got on hormones, that’s a chemistry thing too. I bought a shampoo that stops DHT from ruining my hair & that was a blessing. Then I found out that I was low in D3 which made since bcz my hair stopped growing an inch a month. My hair started growing like a weed as soon as I wasn’t low anymore. HRT caused so much havoc on my body bcz that’s about chemistry. I found out that if I took phytonutrients that would unlock my hormones so they would work better & they’re… I feel that education is key to unlocking the codes to so many health problems! Here’s another thing. Since I love foods that cause Uric acid to build up in my body I got gout, once! I found out that if I take celery seed extract that it flushes out inflammation. Not only did I get rid of my gout in 3 days but my joints & other parts of my body felt better! There’s a lot of foods & drinks that cause inflammation so I decided to take it daily. Been doing it for yrs. If someone is born with thin hair that’s the way that God made them… I was born with very thick beautiful hair that grows fast & I want to keep it that way! I think that stress is the biggest killer of all! You had a great point! I know what caused my problems & exactly when. And I also know what I did to change the outcome!
