I find it unreasonable that driving, which is more dangerous, isn't banned, yet everyone is allowed to drive. The FDA would respond that a driver's license is required. I agree with this argument. So, FDA, you could issue licenses, right? Why ban it outright? Because there are substantial interests behind this, benefiting certain groups. Many medical practices are actually simple and don't require specialized knowledge. Yet, under FDA's guidance, they are restricted to those with medical licenses. I believe this is wrong. Licensed medical professionals should be responsible for truly complex issues that require years of study, not something like microneedling that anyone can do. In fact, many in aesthetic medicine, who have medical licenses, don't understand the underlying principles but can buy a machine and make a lot of money. Therefore, it's common to see "monkeys" performing some aesthetic treatments. A law should be promoted to draw a line for the FDA. Simple treatments that can be learned in three months should not be restricted, especially if they involve interest groups. The FDA might have conflicts of interest with these groups, banning certain medical devices or practices for the benefit of these related interest groups. If there are conflicts of interest within the FDA, then someone should be in prison.

I am a little nervous that the cartridges from TEMU won’t be safe or will damage my skin. Have you compared them to the ones you received from Dr. Pen?
@LifeDIY3 ай бұрын
I totally understand. I have compared them with my other ones (other ones I bought a couple years ago on a reputable site + ones previously purchased on Amazon) and all the packaging is identical and the products look identical. I took closeups of everything here: lifeanddiy.com/buying-microneedling-pens-and-cartridges-closeup-photos-where-buy/ - I am going to update the post with more details so you know which ones I bought from Temu. Basically the M8 cartridges were from Temu. I found some Dr. Pen cartridge charts too and they all look identical to the ones in the charts. I was just shocked to see how the "needles' looked on the A6 36-pin cartridge. Although it looks normal according to the charts, those are not individual needles and I do not want to use those ones and will avoid that at all costs. I also think it's a wise idea to disinfect the cartridge with alcohol before using it. There are also some other websites still selling cartridges but I feel like they're overpriced and probably the exact same as what I am getting. I could buy some to compare.

The War on Anti-Aging definitely stresses me out a little. I have been wanting to try at home needling as part of my longevity protocols. I literally came here from memory, only to discover this ban! Obviously, nobody is doing this to hurt themselves. I'd love to have done professionally with blood plasma and such, but that's such an ordeal. It's so frustrating having already experienced these same issues sourcing NMN. Thanks for covering this and putting in the good fight! I suppose I'm joining Temu at last. 😊

Hey Eric, Thanks for stopping by here and checking out the video. Microneedling is a great treatment option for reversing or slowing down some signs of aging in the skin. It does sound like such an ordeal to get it done in an office setting with plasma, etc. I totally agree with you on the situation being frustrating - similar to the NMN potential ban. I've heard they may try to regulate face peels next - so that's going to be a big problem as you can't stockpile that a they tend to weaken over time and expire. I hope that doesn't happen though.

@nopenothing13 ай бұрын
Wait, so this all started because the biggest manufacturer of microneedling pens and cartridges, filed for FDA approval?! Why would they do that? Surely they must know that they will now be getting much less business when the only people that can buy it are dermatologists? The average person is not going to pay $350 for one microneedling session (That's how much it costs out here for me, and that's the "sale" price!). This is BS. I ordered from Temu but I don't have a lot of money and the prices are rising. I'm scared I won't be able to stock up enough before the prices are insane.

Some people are also buying in bulk from Alibaba, direct from resellers who most often purchase direct from the main manufacturer. It's just another option that may work for some people. I totally agree with you that this is an overpriced treatment at $350 or even $150 is too much in my opinion. I don't live anywhere within two hours or more of doing a treatment like this. Would the 0.25mm nano needles they sell on Temu still help with atrophic acne scars?
@LifeDIYАй бұрын
Some of the cartridges sold on Temu are said to be 0.25 mm but they are actually deeper than that. The depth just depends on the setting you use on your pen. If you specifically buy nano needles, those won't help. Basically, some sellers are stating they are selling 0.25mm cartridges even though they are normal cartrdiges - in order to get around certain rules. I prefer using a cartridge that as 16 pins or less. And, one of those should help with your scars - if you use a certain depth. I can't remember what the depth is for atrophic acne scars, but you can probably find that on pubmed. Hope this helps!

However, in the case of red light therapy why 'ban' them when there are so many users happy with them because they work for them. I think it is as with everthing, reputation and quality of the product that is most important.
@LifeDIY3 ай бұрын
There are a lot of sellers who make false claims. I have had a lot of involvement in this issue in the recent past, due to my last job. I had to attend some classes on the FDA's rules for marketing products/claims/etc. and revamp a website to make it compliant... and it's complicated. The FDA back then didn't often go after skincare claims like it would go after claims made by supplement companies, for example. They now appear to be cracking down on skincare as well. The companies are often so clueless - throwing a website up and thinking they're safe to say things in a careful or cautious way, with particular wording. But, the FDA will go after them for it. To be honest, the companies almost cannot make any claims without risking the FDA's involvement. Even if they try to skirt around it and use reviews and testimonials, they can get in trouble for it. So although there are a lot of companies doing bad things, the FDA also makes it incredibly difficult to do it "their way."

Thanks for the Temu tip, I just ordered from there as well. Do you think they will do this to other pens, such as the Derminator 2?
@LifeDIY3 ай бұрын
No problem at all. That's great you were able to purchase from Alibaba too! I think they will try to do this with the Derminator 2 as well. I think that company is not based in the U.S. though. If anything, I would assume they'll be able to continue selling, but not to the U.S. eventually. I don't know for sure though. It's really hard to know until the FDA makes some announcement. This is really frustrating because when the FDA tries to do this with supplements - they are faced with great opposition by lobbyists and the supplement companies. Many supplement companies have come together to fight the FDA on their current attempt to ban the supplement NMN, investing a lot of money for legal assistance. Unfortunately, in the case of these devices, there’s little chance of similar pushback, since most are sold directly to consumers or by companies based in China, and they don’t have the same level of industry support to challenge the FDA.

The UK for example also has quite different rules on injectables in that pretty much anyone can do a short course and then set themselves us as an injector of things like filler and botox while in the US only licensed and trained medical professionals can provide injections. The scary thing with Temu is you can return. How do you know cartridges aren’t being used and returned?
@LifeDIYАй бұрын
In my experience, whenever I try to return something - Temu just gives me my money back and tells me to keep the item. It's not really worth it to send it back to them, it seems. So that's reassuring. Each needle cartrdige is wrapped individually. Even if someone returns their pack of cartridges, I would assume they wouldn't send back an open used needle cartridge - probably just the rest of the cartridges that are individually wrapped. But, even with saying that, it seems Temu isn't interested in getting items returned back as they often just give you cash to keep it. For me, I am not worried about it.
