Thanks for watching! One thing I forgot to mention is that a common recommendation for this issue is to increase fat intake. I did that but it didn't work for me. In the video, I forgot to share more of AI's analysis of my sleep data. So, I'm sharing it here instead! *Carbs Consumed with the Last Meal:* Evening meals that included carbs were associated with longer sleep duration and improved restfulness. Carbs can help stabilize blood sugar levels overnight, reducing the likelihood of waking due to stress hormones like cortisol. Additionally, carbs may support the production of tryptophan, which converts to serotonin and melatonin-key hormones that regulate sleep cycles. On days when carbs were not consumed or when very low-carb meals were eaten for dinner, sleep was shorter, wake-up times were earlier, and there was increased restlessness during the night. *Luminette Usage:* On days with consistent Luminette usage in the morning, the sleep duration tended to be longer (more than 7.5 hours) compared to days without its use. *Luminette Light Therapy Device + Evening Carbs:* The combination of using the Luminette and consuming carbs with dinner aligns with the best sleep patterns and longer sleep duration, waking up closer to 5 AM. Days with only one of these factors (ie: carbs without Luminette or vice versa) show improvements but not as significantly as when both are combined.

Thanks for that info, sleep is my biggest problem now. You're looking really good and I was wondering if you still take NMN? I've been taking it for 5 years now along with other supplements and have incorporated other therapies such as pemf, infra-red, UV, ozone and ionised saunas etc. Getting these to all work together is a bit tricky, having to experiment a lot to find the right combinations but it's all good fun anyway.

@@catman4471 I love your username! :) Sorry you're dealing with the sleep issues too. Are you eating really low carb as well? And, that's great to hear about the NMN! Over the last few months, I've started taking it again after taking a long break. I have been taking it daily lately and I think it is helpful for energy. Your other therapies sound really interesting and I am getting more and more into things too. I just wish I had more space here! I also find it fun to experiment and find a way to incorporate things in. Do you have a favorite therapy?

@@LifeDIY IR light therapy is amazing and apparently it acticates stem cells if you use it on your spine. I'm just building a pemf machine with mattress and pillow, apparently it's been shown to activate development genes, but is good for loads of other things too...relieved pain from a nasty burn within seconds just using a low power device. The riskier therapies are ozone and UV...I use UV light for infections...cleared a tooth infection within 18 hours! Obviously care must be taken, I do 1 minute twice a day until the infection's gone. Ozone sauna's are amazing, worht investing in a medical grade ozone machine and oxygen generator, and small sit down saune tent...make sure it's ozone friendly. For other uses ozone could be harmful if you don't find out how to use it properly. I found that by stopping NMN for a few months I did well without it, as if it's been doing some repair work. I love my cats btw, hence the username:)

Thanks for sharing all this! That is so interesting about your at home therapies. I need to do a lot more research on these things. I have heard of some of these treatments being used at dental offices. And, I wish I had a sauna. For me, the effects from NMN at this time are so subtle and I do fine on or off of it. Have you ever heard of or tried Shilajit? I just bought some of it as I haven't used it in years. It's a very unique supplement of sorts.

Holy cow! Turns out grandma really knew what she was doing with that cup of warm milk and honey before bed! Back in her day people worked hard, burned off their calories efficiently enough that a glass of probably raw whole milk was just the thing to keep blood sugar from crashing overnight. What an a-ha moment! As always, incredible sleuthing job Holly! You are helping so many people. ❤

I too am very low carb during the day and at night about an hour or so after my dinner I have a mix of frozen berries and whole milk Greek yogurt. I get the fruit ready about an hour before I eat them. I take 3 or 4 frozen strawberries and nuke them for about 10 seconds, this thaws them enough so I can slice them up. I add about 5 or 6 frozen dark cherries, no need to nuke them, I slice them in half, they slice easily out of the freezer. I then top them with a handful of frozen blueberries. I then add about a teaspoon of monk fruit with Erythritol sweetener. They sit for about and hour to thaw on the counter that I will then top with Greek yogurt.

We are each an individual, always keep that in mind. I have found that zero carbs is absolutely not good for me. I have learned that zero carbs for a long time can even cause DT2 which makes sense. After I had zero carbs for about 8 months I started having symptoms which felt exactly like a sugar let down. Our body makes carbs out of fat and protein as needed. I believe with zero carbs my body goes into cortisol overproduction in making carbs. Too much cortisol will cause a feeling of low blood sugar.... Long story short, I do best with I teasp. honey in a cup of water sipping it slowly, not to dump too much into the blood too quickly, and either a piece of fruit or another teasp. of honey in the evening hours. It all depends, if I plan to have a potato with my meat at noon, or some other high carb vegetable, I can skip the honey in the morning but I generally make sure I have a small amount of carbs during the day and especially in the evening hours. Fruit also works for me but often times I can tell a piece of fruit is just not enough. Otherwise I am 95% animal protein with very high animal fat. No weight issues. Feeling quite healthy at almost 80. No doc visit for over 35 yrs. Same for hubby!
@LifeDIY
@LifeDIY Күн бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing this! We sound very similar with our way of eating right now and our issues. I 100% agree that we are each individual, so what works well for one person may not work for another. There are people who would disagree with this concept, but I feel very strongly about it. I understand what you're saying about cortisol being stressed when having zero carbs. I feel the same way and I am working on improving my cortisol production overall. I had such high cortisol years back that I developed other issues - very depleted levels. I think that's part of why I don't do well with no carbs because cortisol is necessary in balancing our glucose levels. I also understand that sometimes fruit isn't enough - so honey is a good solution. This is why it took me so long to fix my sleep. I was trying certain fruits but they didn't elicit enough of an insulin response or glucose response to fix my sleep. So for anyone trying this out, it is important to try different types of foods or even honey and see what works. It can take time to find a solution. I love hearing that you're almost 80 and feeling great! I hope to feel the same when I'm your age. If you have any other tips, please feel free to share them. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and for sharing such a helpful comment!

@LifeDIYi have phD in nutritional science, you don't need keto, you need to focus on slow carbs aka foods with high fiber and lowish amount of total carbohydrates, carbs are not the enemy contrary to what influencers tell you. Also what soes this shows os thst you most likely have some form of hypoglycemia and that is often caused by saturated or high fat Intake. Try low SFA high fiber high protein medium fat. Other stuff you mentioned is accurate
@LifeDIY
@LifeDIY 3 күн бұрын
Thank you for your comment! I agree that not everyone needs keto and some people do better cycling in and out of it. I have noticed lately that I feel a lot better when in ketosis. At times I have tried to knock myself out of it to do some experiments and see how I feel and I tend to get back in it rapidly. I think ketones are my body's preferred fuel source now. But, I have been able to eat other things and I seem to be metabolically flexible. I need to experiment with this more and see how I feel. I hear many people say horrible things about carbs (or any non-meat products) and also about fiber. For me, they are both helpful. And, I like to add in slow carbs with fiber. The best option I've found at this time has been organic sweet peppers that I eat with every meal. Though the carb level is low, they have some carbs and seem to be slow digesting and I find it helpful to keep me full longer and feel better. I don't eat them in excess though, or I get GI issues. I am not sure of the percentage or precise amount of fat I am having daily because I buy this meat from a farm and I don't know the amount...I need to ask them. But, right now it's just the right amount for me with the protein I am getting. When I eat less fat than that, I tend to have issues - with excessive hunger and sleep problems. I don't go out of my way to add in tons of extra fats though. As far as other carbs go, I have a variety of foods that I like to add in that work well for me and they just tend to be lower carb. I’d love to hear if you have any other suggestions for slow-digesting carbs- thanks!
@stx7389

@@LifeDIY it seems like you would do great with slow carbs, and i already like what you mentioned 👍 For the gi issues, try oyster mushrooms, zucchini, pumpkin, carrots, store bought pre fully cooked green peas, small amounts of pears, prunes (more tart variety) kiwi, wheat germ sauerkraut, rice bran....this are full of antioxidants and powerful anti aging substances Supplements good for digestion are NAG, berberine (careful you may need to up carb intake for this one to balance) zinc carnosine, thiamine, b12, oregano oil ( take with meals after you dilute with some base oil) 1 drop per day for maximum of 2 weeks, then 2 month brake. This should do it 👍

Hi Holly. Well, great info on so many great things that could interrupt our sleep. I’m 63. Praise God I am no longer suffering with Menopausal insomnia. Yet I too seem to always wake up at 0300. As does my best friend and her husband. I am right the opposite of you, I have found that when I eat late even 4 hrs prior to bed, I have horrible nightmares and very restless sleep. I have always eaten my dinner no later than 4-5, then eat an apple around 7-8 pm. I will sleep great for weeks, then go thru a few nights of waking up at 12 am, 3 am. I was struggling with waking up with pain from Pillows. It’s crazy how a Pillow will make or break our sleep. I started using my Sleep Number Pillow and awww it’s amazing. I have always been on a high protein, low fat diet and worked out every day and jogged 4 miles/ day. But with my spinal cord injury, that really changed my life and my sleep. Thank you for sharing and so glad you’re sleeping good now. Oh, and I have to stop my water intake to 8 pm or I will wake up within 2-3 hrs to go tinkle. 😊

The Luminette lines right up with Huberman saying that our eyes are adapted for low level light coming in to set the circadian rhythm. In the morning the sun is just above the horizon and that would be low level versus noon which is high level. It sure looks like those glasses shoot the light in at this level. I would assume that the light spectrum is on the warmer side as well to match typical morning sunlight color.
@LifeDIY
@LifeDIY 4 күн бұрын
I think you're right! I've read that the Luminette glasses direct light downward, mimicking the sun's natural morning position. And, it emits blue-enriched white light, which is cooler in color temperature, resembling the natural blue light present in the morning sky. I wish I would have shared that in the video, but I plan to do a separate video on the Luminette as I've found it to be so helpful.

Nice work Holly, I’m not as thorough as you but trying different things I’ve narrowed it down to a couple possibilities, cortisol is one, which i think is related to being a bit more content in life. I’ve eaten carbs a few hours before bed and didn’t make a difference. My best longest deepest uninterrupted sleep was eating omad around midday of variations of meat, veg, 2 cups of milk, 40g of mixed nuts and the job at the time was really enjoyable people were great so very low stress. You have to go in and out of ketosis otherwise ketosis dosen’t work anymore. Someone type two diabetes has to stay in ketosis a lot longer than other people but a lot of people who have low hormones need more natural sugars spikes. These spikes also don’t happen very well unless you sometimes go into ketosis.Dr.Mindy Pelz KZbin videos are something I’ve found extremely helpful for this, when I’ve been able to implement her advice.

@LifeDIY it's definitely a double-edged sword. I love being in ketosis and I try to be in it all the time. But I have the same sleep problems you do and I've noticed that eating carbs in the evening helps. But then I have the effects of eating carbs which is water retention and brain fog in the morning. What type of carb that surprisingly doesn't bother me is corn chips. Like tortilla chips. Not Fritos. For some reason grain-based products bother me but corn doesn't bother me so much. But again I notice if I do that every night then the next day I'm ultra-hungry and craving food and carbs. If I stay in ketosis that doesn't happen but then I start sleeping like crap. So for me anyways cycling has been a good balance
@LifeDIY
@LifeDIY Күн бұрын
That is really interesting about the corn chips! I know what you're talking about when you have blood sugar issues and excess hunger if you've had carbs that have spiked and dropped your glucose. You know what's weird is I used to eat gluten free crackers - by Simple Mills. And, processed foods really mess up my blood sugar - not just for hours and hours but for days. I could eat such a small amount of these crackers, but because they are processed, my glucose would be elevated for many days later. I think because we're so used to eating so low carb, it is hard for the body to adapt to anything else. It can adapt but it takes time and some strategies. I think if you want to ever try this again, without the side effects, you should try to have something to buffer the carbs in addition to your main meal. Not everyone would like the taste of this, but the coconut butter really helps me out. It is so high fat even though it contains some carbs - and when I eat it with the fruit after the main meat meal, it really slows things down so my glucose levels don't go crazy high and drop down. Then the next day I don't have puffiness and I am not totally kicked out of ketosis either - sometimes I am at a 0.6 in the morning when waking up but by noon it might be 1.0+. It just depends. The first time my sleep was fixed, I actually added some frozen organic corn or some canned organic corn to my beef and that fixed my sleep. You may want to try that! If you're eating enough fatty meat, it should blunt the effects of the glucose, while still giving you the benefits of having it. It really depends on so many factors though. It sounds like something so simple - just eat some carbs. But, it's been pretty tricky in my experience.

How would I fix elevated or dysregulated Cortisol levels? This is me
@LifeDIY
@LifeDIY 3 күн бұрын
For me personally, I believe my early wakeups are related to cortisol as well. I have cortisol issues which may make it hard to stabilize glucose levels overnight. The only thing that has worked for me is eating some carbs with my last meal to help stabilize blood sugar. Some carnivores recommend increasing the fat, but that has never worked for me at all. Plus, avoid things that strain your adrenals, like too much caffeine (especially on an empty stomach) or overtraining with exercise. You may also want to check that you have enough electrolytes. Some people also find adaptogens like ashwagandha and rhodiola helpful, though not everyone reacts well to them. I didn't have a good reaction to them, but some people find them helpful too.

@@melissamelissa2603 I was looking this up in AI and it says that raisins have such high sugar content - and they also could have issues with mold - so this could be the reasons for a yeast infection according to AI. It's interesting about strawberries too. I know they are very heavily sprayed with pesticides unless you get organic. That's good the dates don't cause any issues. :)

@ I was mostly eating organic strawberries though. Also for some reason dried figs used to give me blood sugar crashes but dates didn’t and still don’t.

Hi, how many grams of sugar are you eating before bed in the peaches. Really love your content!
@LifeDIY
@LifeDIY Күн бұрын
Good question! The organic frozen peaches I have lately are 12g of sugar/12g of carbs per cup. I will have 1/2 to 1 cup - it varies but it's probably close to a cup. But, I am also getting some more carbs, calories, fat, etc. when I have the coconut butter with it. That could add 2-3g of sugar (or 8-12g of carbs) and 20-30g of fat per serving.

@@LifeDIY Thanks so much, I have been trying this, seems to be helping( though still waking up, but not as wired). My issues are identical to yours, and have been keto for about 7 years, , but over the last 3 months I have been on the lion diet, meat only. Since I heard your video I have been using blueberries, which has about the same profile as peaches. I hope I reach the point where I am sleeping like a normal person:)

I wake up like that when I eat salt, I just quit salt and no more problems. Can't do carbs due to mental problems when being out of ketosis.

Thanks for sharing this. Do you measure your ketones?
@Milana_Kay
@Milana_Kay Күн бұрын
@LifeDIY not anymore, I have learned to know when I am in ketosis. I also think that after a while it becomes pointless to measure ketones in your blood since you become fat adapted. The levels of ketones drop a bit because your body is handling this process more efficiently. I have also measured my glucose with a cgm for two weeks just to see what is going on and found out that my blood sugar usually drops to 3 mmol/l during the night. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing, I think it's normal for it to drop when you are inactive and sleeping. It always peaks right before I naturally wake up. All natural processes. My biggest objection to fruit is that it is really bad for your teeth and kicks you out of ketosis. Fructose breaks down to the same byproducts as alcohol and has to be processed by the liver. So don't see how it's a healthy addition to anyone's diet. Dairy is quite inflammatory and most people( I am sadly one of them) are intolerant of it and I don't even mean the lactose. Even with the enzyme I can't stomach dairy and it gives me so much inflammation. Maaaaybe if it's real raw from the farm with grass fed happy cows. Maaaaybe....

Thanks for sharing some of your thoughts on this! Yeah I understand the dairy issue - I too think it's pretty inflammatory for many people although some people seem to be ok with it. For me, when I eat fruit I don't get kicked out of ketosis though my levels may drop a bit overnight, they come back up really fast.

Hopefully most people don't have issues getting sunlight in the morning. But, some people live in areas that don't get much sunlight and it causes so many problems from low vitamin D levels to sleep issues - both have terrible health effects. I've tried everything else and I am incredibly grateful that the glasses work. You may not need it. But, I do!

It also might be a spiritual attack pray to Yeshua Hamashiach (Jesus Christ) to sleep throughout the night. Demons wake people at those hours (witch hours) there is a spirit of slumber that cast sleeping spells sleep paralysis ect. Make sure you have relationship with the Holy spirit he is the bread of life water of eternal life. ❤ “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst” is a Bible verse from John 6:35. Taking care of our physical body is awesome but make sure you take care of yourself spiritually 🙏🏼 God bless you!

Thank you! I know what you mean due to some past experiences. I found a single quote in the Bible recently about sleep and I wrote it down"When you lie down you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet." Proverbs 3:24. I like how you referred to Jesus as Yeshua Hamashiach. Are you a Messianic Jew? I am a fan of Jews for Jesus. Thank you for the kind comment!

@@LifeDIY Not to be overly technical but any follower of Jesus is a Christian. They can be a Jewish Christian, but they are not practicing Judaism. Messianic Judaism, like any of its 1,000s of fellow sect variations, is just a different form of Christianity. Doesn't really matter which form you choose to worship because they all have spiritual meaning.
