The commandment which says: "thou shalt not 'take' the name of the Lord in vain..." Is the most miss interpreted commandment. This commandment is the one that tells us we have a relationship as a member of God's family. "Take" is a word meaning to take possession of. From the Hebrew the word is best translated to: "to carry". We carry the name of our Father. In the scriptures the word "name" when talking about God means: "God's name is His character" the word character can be substituted for the word name. The resulting meaning of the commandment is: "When we choose to be a member of God's family we are to represent His character..."

i believe the Holy Command is the most misunderstood - the Holy Sabbath is even attacked by those within the church, sadly. the 1st day is never and will never be a Holy day, yet the 7th day Sabbath (known also as saturday) is when Christians go do church and set aside His day for good!
@RogueOntheRoad4 жыл бұрын
@@waterparkpolo I'm active but not everywhere on the internet. It's difficult to keep up with lots of web sites and blogs comment boards. I recommend if you have questions look for the original text in the original language. I found looking at as many versions of the scriptures is a good way to get to know what is written. But learning the meaning of original texts is the key to understanding the true message in the Bible. An example of this is the statement in Acts 20:7 which is unilaterally translated as saying "on the first day..." or "on Sunday" However, the Hebrew/Greek words really say " as the Sabbath was ended... " The common interpretation causes an event timing conundrum. It makes the text look like Paul was going to take a trip on Monday morning while at the same time he was taking a trip on the first day, Sunday. At the same time Paul continues speaking through the night. When we know that they met Saturday evening for dinner and to continue listening to Paul we can understand how Paul was actually planning a trip on Sunday morning. The first day; a good day to take a trip. To discover this I read a Jewish Bible which has key words in Jewish format. I took that Jewish word to the internet and found the interpretation of that word. Studying the Bible is complex thanks to the devil's effort to confuse people. As for the 3rd commandment I went to a school which had a Jewish/Christian SDA Bible teacher. However, you can listen to Rav Binney Friedman... isralight.org/freemp3s/RBF/10Commandments/The_3rd_Commandment_-_Taking_G-ds_Name_In_Vain.mp3

To not take in vain use it by drawing all three into one beginning whole image. As the father image is GOOD so the Son image is a circle halved once squared twice to the right. From that image we see the kingdom of the word defined.

The English word, vain, means conceit or failure but I think that the word vain in the 3rd Commandment of God refers to the using or ,carrying God's name for activities which can be against the will of God, like killing in the name of God.

Actually, the commandment should read : You shall not take the name of YHWH your God in vain. This is important as it not only tells us who the LORD is but indicates that those who quote it as taking the LORD's name in vain , have probably just done so.

Hello. Is it possible to take Satan's name in vain? such as saying Satand---it?
@Lifehopeandtruth3 жыл бұрын
The Bible doesn’t address taking Satan’s name in vain, but if a Christian is constantly using his name as an expletive or is constantly thinking about him, that Christian’s focus is probably in the wrong place. James 4:7 shows us that the best way to resist Satan is not to use his name as an expletive, but to focus on submitting to God. Our minds should be focused on God, His ways and His Kingdom.

I do not allow anyone to use Gods name in vein in my home. They can leave if they can’t watch the mouth of words that I don’t like. It’s respect for people in their homes. Every word that comes from the mouth is Life and Death!! That is in the Bible. Imagine how wonderful the world “ life “ would be If Everyone would respectfully live by those 10 rules? It’s not hard to be a good person! Those commandments don’t make you a OMG RELIGIOUS TYPE PERSON THAT NOBODY CAN STAND” Those commandments make us better good hearted people! 10 rules and everyone these days act like it’s a hard thing to live off of. The only reason a person says I don’t believe is because they enjoy living a sinful life and don’t want to change. People feel they have to make big changes if they admit to believing in a higher power” Honestly, it’s a good place to start. Admitting belief can be the start of a better life” OR some people call it Better Luck. I don’t believe in Luck. I believe it’s Gods will. God is Love! If you know the difference between Good and Evil,Right and Wrong” you know the difference between Life And Death then truly you know God and Santon! Want Love-give Love Want joy-give joy. Want Respect-give respect! Want happiness-give happiness It’s simple! You get in return what you project to others. Prayers we can just all be good hearted people and make this world a better place. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

@Lifehopeandtruth Жыл бұрын
Hi Gilbert! Some Jews and others refrain from pronouncing the tetragrammaton (YHWH) because they feel it’s too holy to pronounce. However, there is no biblical evidence that God expected His people to refrain from uttering His name or that avoiding its pronunciation was prevalent in biblical times. Those discouraging its use often align with the Sacred Name Movement. You can learn more about that belief system by visiting this link: lifehopeandtruth.com/god/who-is-god/names-of-god/sacred-name/.

How can “oh my god” be construed as using the lords name in vain? What is this so called “god”s name? Is it god? Is this title “god” the actual name of this figure that is loosely labeled “god”? Could it be that there is a deeper meaning behind this so called scripture?
@Jewgirl29113 жыл бұрын
The name of The Most High is “YHWH” not “God” so using the word god whether it’s capital or lower case, the word god is common and using this name to refer to The Most High takes Elohim’s name in vain - for you have made it common.

Hello, Matt. Of course, God isn’t a name. But He has a name. (In fact, He reveals several names for Himself in the Bible.) Those names represent various aspects of His character and power. We believe that to verbally disrespect any of His names breaks the Third Commandment and shows disrespect to God. What is Gods name? And do Not reply with “Jesus” because Jesus prayed to God! God is a title, but what is His name???
@Lifehopeandtruth4 жыл бұрын
When Moses asked God what His name was, God replied, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you’” (Exodus 3:14). This name expresses God’s eternal existence. He wasn’t created by anyone or anything-He’s the “Self-Existent One,” as this name has been properly understood. Verse 15 refers to God as “The LORD God.” Although LORD and God are the most common references to God in the English Bible, God has many more names usually translated as LORD and God. Some of those names include Elohim, El, El Shaddai, El Elyon, El Olam, YHWH Rapha, YHWH Shalom and many more. For a more complete list of God’s many names and their meanings, see the chart at the bottom of our article lifehopeandtruth.com/god/who-is-god/names-of-god/#6. The names of God are deeply meaningful proclamations of His power, His character and the many things He does for His people. For more on God’s names, see lifehopeandtruth.com/god/who-is-god/names-of-god/sacred-name/ and lifehopeandtruth.com/god/blog/names-have-meaningsespecially-gods/. In the New Testament, Jesus often referred to God as His Father. God reveals Himself throughout the Bible as a loving Father. By definition Atheism is the disbelief that there is a God. By your own words of using this against him. If by him you are referring to God, then you are not a true atheist. If you are trying to use something against "him" then you believe that "He" exists. Doesn't mean you worship him, you obviously hate him, but you believe he is real.
