You can definitely hear hear the DS18 crystal clear almost like it’s a coaxial with tweeter. Skar definitely is killing the lows. Overall I would have to give it to the Skar. Mids should play mid 🤪

I am used to high quality reference speakers, and I can tell you that skar is clearly clearer :) And true to wave too. Didnt expect DS18 to be that far behind, but it definitely sounds as a much lower quality speaker.

It's arguably worse sounding, but it just fits your preference more. Mike had it right in the video, they are very different speakers for different purposes. the ds18 just needs a sub which you would probably have if you were buying ds18

If you have active crossovers I think the Skars win all day. Cross them @ 80hz low pass and 3khz high pass, pair them with a nice sub and some tweets @3k and it will sound amazing. I've ran setups with mids that lacked midbass punch...and even with a separate 12" it just overall lacked that true balance.

Skar products doesn’t require alot of RMS power to push them that’s why alot of BASS noobs been blowing them up with 1000watt amplifiers and later crying about how they suck 🤣

Sounds to me like the skar was a lot better. You dont want your midramge to sound like it has a tweeter!

If not running subwoofers maybe, midranges should not play bass and should not have excursion. Excursion=distortion quicker when it comes to voice. The DS18's would sound much better assuming they are paired with proper subwoofer. If its midbass your after then use a mid bass driver crossed over to those specific frequency ranges. Midrange drivers are meant to cover the "mid range" of frequencies Oh and side note...bullet style mids will usually be louder and clearer with a higher frequency range than a standard style midrange woofer.

I got two subwoofers Skar 12 inch Evl, and two 6.9 rear speakers, this look like it will be too high on front door, or do I need mid range bass? Also have Skar tweeter up by the window but I think I got the wrong mid range. What do u think. DS18 always sound like a paper cone with vibrations running through it. They always sound kind of mono.

Damm it’s so difficult to choose, so many good 6.5 mids out there. I know I just won’t overpay for some these brand names. $30 to $40 a piece for 200 watts speakers is good.

Both sound great depending on taste for HIGHS or MID LOWS, for me i like SKAR! I have 2 6.5" Skar and 2 3.8" Orion Cobalt Tweeters for the back of my 2000 Pontiac Firebird no sub yet, but will be getting a 12" SKAR SUB soon' i hope So SKAR for me✌..

Did you ever get the subs? I have four very clean Polk Audios inside my 2002 Firebird convertible (separates in the doors, coaxials in rear panels). I installed two Skar SVR12-D4s in a custom box from HiFiSoundConnection running off a Skar 1500.1D. I just replaced my damaged four channel with the Skar 150.4AB so looking for mid bass to handle the extra power. These Skar 6.5" appear to fit the bill.

I like that test. Most people getting either of these speakers will be using subs for the base. So I say DS18 & DS18 tweet. Not to mention the DS18 is $20 cheaper

One speaker shouldn’t sound like a full system so ds18 would be the better choice. A full set of skar + subwoofers would most likely drown out any good highs
