The barley soup, and the porridge like the one at the beginning, what needs to be remembered is that here we would have (I sometimes still do) have had sweet and savoury versions of some of the foods. For porridge it used to be a simple staple food and I sometimes do a savoury porridge with a bit of meat and oxo cube and some mixed veg, all cooked and mixed together
I think the sweet bean cans are not accepted by most of people. But the herb jelly and almond tofu are my favorites. Glad to see your families experienced the unique sweet cans from Taiwan.

八寶粥😂 i love this lot, tried so hard to get it pronounced right. I love this to bits. Side note, i once ate this in the office for morning tea here in Australia at the start of a new job. I accidentally spilt it, and my TL happen to walk past and she sent me home - she thought i was unwell and that the spilt 八寶粥 was.... sick 😂 😂😂😂 I took the day off but explained it next day and we all had a good laugh about it.
