After five and a half years living here I heard a weird sound last night after it got dark. I asked my wife what it was and she knew exactly. It was a kite and the making and flying of kites in this area is a traditional thing at this time of year. My wife's father used to make kites and fly them in the rice fields after a day's work harvesting rice by hand. They also attached the spinner to make the strange noise. My wife tells me that the noise can be varied by the way the spinner is made. So long as there is a breeze they will fly the kites, sometimes all night. This morning at 3.00 am I could still hear the sound of the kite.

Now i wanna go make a kite...cool when he tested the noise maker, find stuff like that very interesting....
@lifeinthailand6 жыл бұрын
It was lucky that he tested it, hard for the camera to pick up the sound when it is up in the sky.

Cool video Paul! Yep, brings back memories of building one using a cement bag with my brother in law. Once we got it up, enjoyed listening to the “doo-doo” sound. Oh yeah, he also taught me how to whip that noisemaker around just like that. I sure got a kick out of it. Thanks for sharing.
@lifeinthailand6 жыл бұрын
I think the noise makes is the best part, luck that he was playing with this one so now everyone knows the sound.

Dude. I just went down a Google Rabbit Hole on kites in Thailand. I never knew they were so popular in Thailand. The noise maker is sometimes used by farmers to scare birds away from their crops. Damn ingenious.
@lifeinthailand6 жыл бұрын
Kites are very popular here this time of year, you can buy them everywhere, but for me, the homemade ones are the best. A kite made out of a concrete bag, you can't make that up.

lifeinthailand I have to tell you though... That I bought me my tiny house... Kind of tiny house it's going to be anyway. Your comment on Facebook about putting my big girl panties on really woke me up and I decided not to sit here anymore! That very day I went and found a place where I can put my tiny house and then that weekend I bought me a shed that I'm going to convert into a tiny house! So thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I'm finally starting! finally! I have to do everything in stages because of money, but I should be putting out a video next month... somewhere around the 1st of March is when I'm going to get my shed on that property!

Looks like a plastic strap off a pallet. you get that nose too on a windy day can hear it better now is close. The Australian aborigines have a flat stick on a string that they spin that makes a cool noise too. Good video good to see the kites up close
@McDowallManor6 жыл бұрын
It's called a "bull roarer." That's not the proper Aboriginal name because the real name has never been shared with non-Aboriginal people.

I like it all but the noise. I wonder why they need to have a noisemaker on the kites? Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Remember flying a ten cent kite with a dollars worth of string, when I was a kid. I lost a few kites,,and the string. Oh the blessings of those memories.
