Күн бұрын

Having been through some of the hardest military training programs in the world, I get asked a lot of questions from my KZbin and social media network about “how strong do I need to be to make it through Special Operations Training?” I’ve been asked for help by semi-professional athletes who are feeling “patriotic” as well as from high school students who can only do 15 push ups. To answer their questions / your questions, I developed Special Operations Fitness - Hell Week to give them / you a taste of what the Special Operations community is like.

I downloaded your PDF book. It’s definitely a good eye opener for younger people who aspire to be SOF. I grew up wrestling, lifting, and running for years of my life. The program wasn’t super difficult, but it’s not a cake walk either. I’m not showing off that I’m super fit, but I want to open the eyes of the younger generations that you need a strong background of serious exercise and conditioning to make it through. Not only that, but a strong undying will to never quit and always try your absolute best. You’re doing God’s work. Thank you!

The issue of "special ops", is not so much related to how "strong" physically you are, but how tough physically and mentally you can be. The Special Forces are looking for people who have these two characteristics, because if you are physically strong, but psychologically "break" you are useless. On the contrary, it also happens, you can be strong psychologically, but "break" in the physical. Special Operations Units look for the union of these two factors in a candidate. Hence the exhaustive training. They seek to know the limit of candidates in these two factors. (a former Special Forces).

There are not many if not none who are close to being supreme fit at the of making the decision to try out. They might think they are physically fit but not up to standard. As a former Jägarsoldat (Swedish airbourne assult ranger) I´d say the "fitness" is less about what you can do when well fed and ready to go.. and more about your working capacity and your lowest point, as in, what can you do when you haven´t slept or eaten, how strong are you then and how long can you carry on. SF and the likes are never "building you up". You train in order to build up because the service is gonna tear you down again. We did rucks spanning distances longer than I thought possible with no food or sleep and during those, the fittest guy sometimes became the weakest while the otherwise avarage dude suddenly was the strongest. But trying to explain this to someone that´s not military trained is impossible. There´s simply no way what so ever to imagine and understand what it is unless you do it sadly. That´s why lots of guys former SF or such, prefer not to talk too much about it... it´ll lead nowhere.
@Rb889
@Rb889 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely right. Olympic athletes in top form can outrun most SOF on a good day. But the training is to see how you hold up on the worst day, after marching twenty miles uphill in a crouch with a bleeding two hundred pound man on your back, all the while being followed by hard motherfuckers trying to kill you. There's a reason big dudes tend to wash out of Ranger School, muscle ain't going to keep you going when you've gone four or five days with about two hours' sleep and maybe 1200 calories worth of food. Mental fortitude is the difference between potential for SOF and Big Army.

I want to imagine a future where I'm in Special Operations or some similar elite school but I'm wondering if it's even biomechanically possible at this point in my life. It's been a wild ride going from skinny sheltered wimpy home-body coomer nerd to soldier, but I'm still a pogue who had an easy deployment even if I was witness to the fall of Kabul last August. I want to be tougher. I want to be this level of warrior and leader. Looks like I've got a lot of work to do to even get close.

Idc what your triceps and biceps look like.....has absolutely nothing to do with size at all. The hardest rangers I’ve ever seen were littler dudes who were pound for pound as strong as possible....they would ruck circles around all the gym dummies and also get away with less strains, sprains, and tears, because their muscles are 10x more flexible than some meat head who’s blown his body up....they can’t move....their muscles have no give anymore....they just tear. There is a ENORMOUS difference between working man and gritty strong, than gym princess strong....

They could barely push wheel barrels full of stone up hills, they were only able to do a couple.....I’m 140lbs and was running 200+ pound wheel barrels full of stone up and down a grass hill all day long without even missing a beat.....these guys did 1 or 2 and was like “nah I can’t do this all day man I’m outta here”....like dude your 5x my size and solid muscle wtf do you mean you can’t do it.....I’ve worked around 100’s of dudes like this and almost all of them are soft and weak when it comes to real work out in the weather, the rain, snow and heat, and actually moving things over distance repeatedly all day long.....they all fail....all their muscles get them no where every time.

At the time of this video, I am 18 years old in July. I weigh 238lbs. I am 5”7 and I’ve been going to the gym for 2 weeks. When I started I was 241lbs and lost 3lbs in two weeks. After weeks of watching videos like this I’m aiming towards becoming a Navy SEAL. I’m well aware of the journey that lies ahead but I’m willing to take it. My goal by the end of the year is to be 210lbs or 95 Kg. I can’t even comprehend the challenges I’m going to face but after the realisation of my life and the many problems in the world, this is what I want to do. I want to train to be the best of the best. No more last place, no more second place. I’ve realised the whole journey starts with you. It’s up to YOU to make the change, no one else. Sure people will always try to bring you down, I know that all to well, but they won’t even be a thought when you get to where you want to be, where you need to be. Stay hard everyone. EDIT:6 WEEKS LATER LOST 10lbs NOW WEIGH 229lbs STAY HARD!

Actually the push ups, pull ups, and running the mile are all things an average person can be conditioned to do unless you have a medical condition. Now doing all the other shit ontop takes another kind of person. It's merely that the average person doesn't have the wealth, motivation, resources, or will to accomplish it. Mostly will because of a lack of incentive.

Yet again I was 140lbs doing 80 push-ups no problem in one set no rest. Now I’m 200 and having trouble performing as many reps. I hope this helps you in your journey. God bless and have a good life!!

If the kid asks you, if 20 push ups is enough, tell him it's not nearly enough and explain the rest of the stuff. Disrespecting someone instead of aiding him when you're the more experienced part is a virtue of the stupid. Learned it the hard way. If you cannot do infantry, you cannot do special ops. This is why in the US Army people with special ops training in their contracts enter infantry as 11 X (X-ray). At the end of the back-in-the-days, shorter infantry Basic/AIT, you had to build your own hasty and for six days and six nights the Drill Sergeants would walk around and make certain that you sleep as little as possible. On the 7th day, you would get 8 hours of sleep and have to march back to the barracks with everything on your back, 12 miles. After that, you would not get real rest because you would have to clean your equipment, hand it in, get ready for the Blue Cord ceremony (invite only military and military-minded people) and the graduation ceremony (invite family). Also, you are not a grunt, they tell you to suffer in silence for so many weeks that you eventually learn to do it! I could do only 21 push ups when I joined, and I had very hard time plus I do never adapt to hot climate (Ft Benning in August etc.) Do not be like me, take a year before you join and practice; get your 2 miles run to under 14 minutes, your push ups to at least 50 regular push ups without rest, and your sit ups to at least 50 sit ups without rest plus go to a shooting range and practice a little. You will be so much better off than the dude who just does 20 push ups. Once you do not have to focus so much on the physical aspect, your brain is freed to think and learn faster.

Interesting...You can thank Colonel Robert Howard for the high standards in SF AND for making officers take the same Q Course as enlisted men! As for the "Fit-for-Life" mentality. I graduated SF in 1964...today I am 80 years old and do 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups and walk between 5-10 miles every day regardless of the weather along river trails/woods.

Great recommendations! Also train your mind, don't get overwhelmed with the program, handle one task at a time, don't forget the team, and pay attention to details, e.g. links for your saw.

The best part of these videos often goes unappreciated and likely unnoticed. Look through the comments. All these people inspired to be better than they were yesterday. That alone is a monumental feat. Imagine what you....imagine what WE could do if we were better than yesterday every day for a week, a month, a year, a decade.

I am really happy whenever you post a new video. I watched the comparison between SFQC and Ranger school the exact hour in which I received the order from my country to come and attend the SFQC. I am already qualified there, but the course so far is amazing, even though a little bit different from what I've expected. I graduated from my MOS and on Monday next week, my Tactical Skills phase starts (SUT, SQB, SQC, etc.). I am excited to see the upcoming challenges which NC can provide for 40 days in the SUMMER.

I don’t think I’ll ever be special operations material but I think that achieving the work ethic of someone in spec ops is a must. I’m just trying to be able to even begin on the fitness journey you describe, my shoulders don’t work properly but seeing stuff like this motivates me to fix it

This is the real thing, I appreciate how honest this video is, unlike the others, only pointing out the benefits and privileges you’ll get when you join but they never mention how you should be thriving throughout the training. Mad respect to the special forces for going through this rough conditions just for us to have peaceful nights.

This will have nothing to do with Israeli special forces like Sayeret Matkal and Shayetet 13 etc. Because you have to pass a "gibbush" wich is similar to the hell-week, before you even get drafted to the military, and this week focuses mainly on running in sand, and going up dunes, and less the things that are in here. Although the course itself might be a bit similar

Baby steps so far, just cold showers, purposely getting in more sucky situations, etc but I really need to start getting serious. Don’t plan on stopping til I can be worthwhile. Cheers!
