I've been skating for 4 weeks now and I can skate, spin, glide, swizzle, and lunge !!! ❤

Bend the knees! Try to do everything off ice first and then try it on ice, it will be different but it will help with remembering the movements
@LifeOnThinIce6 жыл бұрын
Don’t be nervous! The great thing about being older is that you will fly through the levels and understand the coaches better! Don’t feel intimidated by the little kids. Everyone has their own goals in this sport and most little kids aren’t motivated enough because their parents signed them up. Having your own motivation to go far in skating will make you a better skater in the end! If you are using rental skates, try to find a pair that have the most hooks on the side. We have brown ones that usually help skaters have more stability compared to our grey ones that have the support of a hockey skate(which is NOTHING) very scary so make sure your ankles feel supported before you step on! Hope classes go great Monday!

I love the idea of figure skating but I'm very much a non-graceful guy and can't afford lessons anyway! Hockey is way too brutal and competitive. Vitamin that I like the best....Vitamin D. We’re often deficient in it, due to shorter days in the winter. I’ve tested a bit low on it, which may have partially caused major muscle and joint stiffness/soreness last winter, and kept me off the ice for about 8 weeks. I don’t care to experience that ever again.
@LifeOnThinIce6 жыл бұрын
Wow great info! About to go take Vitamin D now so that doesn’t happen to me!!
@janetslater1296 жыл бұрын
@@LifeOnThinIce I would go get tested at a doctor's office first (it's a simple blood test). You doctor would be able to tell you what dose you should take if you are low. Ideally, one's Vitamin D level should be 40, although 30 is considered to be the minimum level of "normal." Thankfully, Vitamin D is easy to get, as it's available at any vitamin section of any store, and it's not super expensive (generally under $10) if you do need it. Plus, consuming foods with Vitamin D in it (like milk) may also help.
@LifeOnThinIce6 жыл бұрын
I’ve been testing by a doctor before and I’m supposed to take vitamin D. Especially since I drink a lot of almond milk and not regular milk. The best thing to do is just take a multivitamin everyday if you know that you aren’t severely deficient in a certain vitamin.

It's a lot about having a tight core, it helps to be stable and also helps you stay in one place when spinning.

helloo! so ive wanted to get into skating since i was 12 after being a rhythmic gymnast for 6years and quitting because i hated it and had no passion for the sport. im now 14 and im thinking about getting into skating now and is it too late? my brother (who's 15) too wants to get into skating. he wanted to join ice hockey but my parents said its too dangerous so he turned to figure skating and we're thinking of starting sometime this week. if we do end up joining, which package should i choose? group (4-10 people), semi-private (2-3 people) or private (1 person). i hope you do see this and help me out :) xx
@kimieteoh45046 жыл бұрын
oh and if i do end up skating, when is the appropriate time for me to buy my own skates? thats all
@bored_af52186 жыл бұрын
@@kimieteoh4504 I'd say try it out for a bit to see if you're really determine in skating before buying skates since it can be costly. If you find out you really want to stick with skating I suggest buying Jackson's since they're cheaper skates and perfect for beginners. Also get them sharpened.

@th3mb0fr0g66 жыл бұрын
honestly when I’m scared to fall I just fall on purpose. Like literally slide onto the ice. So that when Im doing whatever I already know how it feels to fall and I get less scared of it.
@LifeOnThinIce6 жыл бұрын
At some point you’ve got to realize that you are destine to fall at some point. For singles the worst that can happen is you fall on your bottom. You’ve got to realize that most single jumps aren’t even a full rotation around(except for axle). Falling is just part of the process of learning. Trust the technique of your coach and try the correction they make for the jump. The more you try and fully commit, the faster you’ll get the jump. Simple as that. Hope that helped :)
@emilywood31876 жыл бұрын
thanks so much for the great replies.
@gabriellefrancis77536 жыл бұрын
Every skater must fall. You'll never learn if you don't. This may sound dumb but to help me feel not so scared of falling, I always tell myself that if I fall and die I won't have to take anymore exams and that usually gets me going.
@akward__alexis32066 жыл бұрын
Hey I started skating ten months ago and I’ve done 1 competition and I got 1st place but now I’m doing jumps and still a little self conscious about falling any tips to make it less “scary” I guess 😂
@LifeOnThinIce6 жыл бұрын
Falling is a part of this sport so at some point you need to learn to accept and be comfortable with that. Which by the way is incredibly difficult even for me because it’s essentially a skill that takes lots of time and confidence. In the meantime, however, it’s always helpful to wear padding. There are butt pads as well as knee and elbow pads! I think the thought of falling is scarier than actually falling. So once you fall, it’s important that you remember that it wasn’t so bad and falling again isn’t gonna kill you.
@stygianwaves6 жыл бұрын
Do you think it would be worth it to buy actual figure skates just to skate for fun but often? (basically not skating competitively, but to just skate) I’ve heard figure skates seem to be way smoother than rental skates, and rental skates is all I’ve ever used. Just wanna ask someone who actually figure skates. Thanks!
@tal38186 жыл бұрын
If you are going often enough it would be cheaper and better in the long run. Also it depends on the rink but the majority of time rentals are not good quality and are not smooth
@LifeOnThinIce6 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely! The rental skates are actually so bad. Skating will be much more enjoyable with proper skates. Just find a good quality pair, but don’t spend a crazy amount of money on them :) hope this helps!
@bored_af52186 жыл бұрын
If you're skating often then definitely, otherwise it would be a waste of money if you're only going once a month or so.

Hi!! I totally understand your love for figure skating! It’s a huge commitment and if you are not able to make it to an ice rink that’s okay. To maintain your skills you need to do off ice exercises which Claire posted a video on and also stretch. If possible, check and see if you have any roller rinks nearby.
