You have to re-register your face for it to work in the case. It’s clearly stated in the instructions. As well, Face ID learns new “looks” of your face as you put in your password after failed unlockings. As in, you shaved your face, Face ID doesn’t work, you put in your password a couple times and boom all the sudden it is working. That is how Apple says Face ID can recognize your face as you change hairstyles, shave, *put on screen protectors,* etc.

Will this work with a tempered glass screen protector? I like having one in addition to the case and built-in screen protector.

I had that issue too but this is how I fixed it: Take the phone out of the case Start the Face ID without the case After it recognizes your face put it back in the case There you’ll be able to twist your head around with the cover on. After that you should be able to use your Face ID with the case. Good luck and thank you for reviewing the case for us

To do so I peeled off the two little circles under the screen protector in the selfie camera notch area. After I did that, Face ID has worked completely normally! I finally was able to notice that the dots under the screen near the front-facing camera were removable, and I peeled them off and now Face ID finally works great! I’m happy about this but I wish LifeProof had either made it clear we had to do this or not included those dots at all, as I literally just removed them earlier today. Crazy! Great questions, Warenoticer! It comes down to personal choice if you want to get this case or the NEXT. I’m actually responding to this comment with the FRE case on my iPhone-I prefer it because it’s waterproof while the NEXT is not. Also, the FRE has a built-in screen protector so I don’t think it would play nice with an additional screen protector already on your iPhone. Lastly, I wouldn’t say the FRE is specifically slippery, but I wouldn’t say it is grippy either. I would say it’s just average-it has a matte plastic feel to it. I dropped my galaxy S9 in a lake a few years ago. It was in a lifeproof FRE case. It sunk to 100ft. I was able to Skype my phone and it worked until the battery died. Lifeproof for life after that.

How well does the mic pick up your voice? I have a lifeproof fre case on my iPhone 7 and like everything about it, except that when facetiming and on phone calls the other end says my audio cuts out and makes it almost completely unusable.

I love these cases and have had them for the last 3 iPhones. I had trouble with Face ID just with the phone no case and had to redo it in very bright light. No problems with case. I really was looking for how the little round ringer silencer button works because I can't figure it out this time. It is very different.

Me too, Warenoticer! I've used LifeProof FRE cases on all my past daily driver iPhones as well. Just letting you know I was able to fix the Face ID issue by peeling off the two little circles under the screen protector in the selfie camera notch area. After I did that, Face ID has worked completely normally! Also, I believe you just rotate the round silencer back and forth to get it into your desired silent/not silent configuration. After watching your video I was inspired to buy the lifeproof case and I am absolutely loving it. When I get home from work I simply spray it down with a hand sanitizer spray bottle and then let it dry and after that I run it under the tap and I’m good to go. With other cases that I have used in the past, the hand sanitizer spray would get under the case and all over the iPhone inside the case. Not with this Lifeproof case.

One really cool 3-in-1 wireless charger that can charge an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods all at once is Belkin's (here: www.apple.com/shop/product/HPGA2ZM/A/belkin-boost%E2%86%91charge-pro-3-in-1-wireless-charger-with-magsafe-white). However, these chargers are MagSafe and the FRE isn't, so it's likely your iPhone won't magnetically stick to these chargers with the FRE on. Thus you may want to consider a non-MagSafe wireless charging pad if you intend to use it with this case on, assuming that wireless charging can work through this case. I've been going back and forth deciding if I should get this case as I was never a fan of the screen protector thing built in bc it always bubbled. But from the looks of yours it doesn't seem to happen, where as other reviews showed bubbling. I always had the NUUD model where there was no screen protector just a gasket that clamped on. What do the dust ports look like on the bottom, is it just a clear film? Does it sound like your talking underwater when on a phone call? How's the speakers sound, does it sound muted?

I preferred the old NUUD model too since I'm not the biggest fan of screen protectors, but unfortunately they haven't made that for any of the iPhone X-like iPhones. I didn't notice bubbles on this screen protector, but I did in my initial unboxing of the FRE for iPhone 11 Pro Max (here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jabPY5x-jq2jiKM). The dust ports are not clear, they're a grey mesh. I haven't placed a phone call or listened to audio yet with the case on (since like I said in the video I don't use this case around my home), but I can update you once I try those things. For now though, I will tell you that it appears that there is a greater amount of refraction (those lines of light) when pointing the camera directly at light sources with the case on. Also, the quality of the camera does gradually get reduced over time as the LifeProof cover gets dirty/worn (not even cleaning has been able to fix this for me, so I end up getting a new case). But this has been fine with me since LifeProof has a great warranty and they always replace my case for free, but I have to pay for shipping. Great question! Below I've linked all the iPhone 12 Pro Max case videos I've made, including this one. Below that I've linked some other interesting cases I unboxed for the iPhone 11 Pro Max that you might be interested in, but that I haven't unboxed for the 12 Pro Max. If you're looking for protection, I would go for the LifeProof FRE or OtterBox Defender. However, I prefer the LifeProof FRE due to its waterproofness, and this is the case that I always have on my iPhone 12 Pro Max whenever I leave my home with it. The other great thing about the LifeProof FRE is that LifeProof has great customer support and warranty on it, as whenever I've had any issues with the FRE they send me a new one for free, and all I have to do is pay for the shipping. When I'm in my home and don't need so much protection and waterproofing, I use Apple's Clear MagSafe case on my iPhone 12 Pro Max as a more minimalist alternative. So I brought the lifeproof case the day I got my iphone 12 pro max and the seal came off the back piece and I been fighting with lifeproof for three days now to get a warranty case sent out they keep telling me to send pics of my case and I do and then they email me the same thing over

Whenever I have an issue with one of their cases, they send me a free one and all I have to do is pay for shipping. So I have a question, How is the dust protection on it? I work in a dusty environment where we deal with oil rig pipe production. I try my hardest to keep my phone from metal dust because I know it has a magnet on it due to MagSafe. I know there is no case out there that is 100% dust proof, but is this my biggest bet for one?

Not to worry, Warenoticer! I was able to eventually fix Face ID after posting this video. To do so I peeled off the two little circles under the screen protector in the selfie camera notch area. They are good if my sons experience anything to go by. He had for a 5s and a 6s which he still has and phone is in perfect condition excluding fact battery now not holding charge so son wants an upgrade. My only complaint is that audio bit muffled compared with many other cases that don’t protect as well. But it maybe better on speaker. Case protects against dust, grit and impact not simply water. My son cycles everywhere and his phone has had a few nasty impacts but looks virgin when it occasionally comes out of its case

Ever since Otterbox bought out lifeproof , I don’t like them , where’s the window for the apple logo ? Why did they change the volume rocker to something more different to switch ? Why did they round the edges ?!? Lifeproof in my opinion has went downhill

Had a lifeproof case for iphone 7plus and it kept my phone like new and i just traded it in for iphone 12 pro max and i had trouble getting this case and now i have it and im stoked!! The quality is way better and face regognition didnt work right away. It took a few minutes. But im planning to have this case for years til the next iphone 20 comes out 😂

Great question, Warenoticer! I personally have only used the LifeProof FRE out of those two haha. But I'm a big fan of the FRE and have used it on all my daily driver iPhones, including my current one the iPhone 12 Pro Max. I use it in a LifeProof FRE whenever I leave my home with it. Facts, Warenoticer! Last year’s had that strange effect (I demonstrated it in my unboxing of the FRE for 11 Pro Max) and this year’s doesn’t work with Face ID (as I demonstrated in this video and lots of people are saying in the comments). I wish they would make a better screen protector, or more ideally, make something like the NUUD case which didn’t even have a screen protector. Thanks so much for watching!
