i was surprised at how polite and kind the interviewers are with the girls. they seem to be very respectful and grateful to be allowed to see and share lifestyles of gothic lolita! about ten years have passed since this small documentary was made, so i hope that every featured girl lives her dream now. i hope that Manamu finally got her passport, Aran is a popular artist now and Hiyoko (or Hiiko? there are two versions of the spelling of her name in subtitles) and her mother fulfilled their dream of opening a clothing store. and if they didn't, i hope that they are happy, no matter what they are doing now. this documentary shot me right in the heart, so i'm crying. it was wonderful to see and enjoy so many unique dresses, artworks and locations. Yhmar21hEiro, many thanks for uploading this video!

idk the reason and the comments are saying different things(literally only 2) but I wouldn't talk in public for like 90% but then there would be that one interview where I'd say something extremely quotable and everyone would stare

I know that this comment is reeeeeeeeeally old, but: 1) Mana-sama is a cross-dresser, meaning that he publicly dresses as a woman, specifically as a goth-lolita. He actually does the modeling campaigns for his firm Moi Meme Moitie (
@xx73140
@xx73140 Жыл бұрын
I know this was meant to come off as informative, however "Cross-dresser" is a very dated term. And not every man and masculine person that happens to dress a bit feminine is automatically one. I believe at one point he also said he just does his own thing and he never necessarily labeled himself as anything like that (correct me if I'm wrong tho). Also the not talking thing might just be his image, probably for the "mysterious" and gothic affect that he obviously tries to present, idk just saying

This video is so great! I wish there were more intensive fashion "worlds" here in the US aside from Hot Topic and urban wear... It's so much harder here to wear clothing that you like rather than what is appropriate for work and jeans and a t-shirt otherwise. Makes me think about this stuff around Halloween!
@iforgotmyusername11

From what I know Japan is even more conservative than the US and if anything, it'd be "harder" to wear alt fashion there. The reason for the birth of such fashion there are probs the overbearing cultural norms.

Lolita exists in the U.S. too. I mean, I literally am an American lifestyle Lolita who has learned to read, write, and speak Japanese and been to Japan twice. I own 18 coords and counting, and thats not cheap. My atepie coat alone is 350 dollars and that took dedication to get. There are communities in most major U.S. cities, and I have friends across the country, thousands of miles apart from each other, as well as in Japan and Europe, so yea, it's no longer a Japan only thing, even if it started in and is still heavily rooted in Japan (tho in the past 10 years we now have American and European indie brands, and China now rivals Japan in many ways for production and importance)
@midsummermuse

@@petravonsakray Yeah, the number of unique styles/aesthetics has exploded in the last few years. It's great that there are so many welcoming communities for Lolita and other less common fashion types now, regardless of where you live, and I was not the most informed 12 years ago when I added this comment. It's really cool that you have a whole wardrobe of Lolita pieces--I know they aren't cheap!! I've been into clown core recently, but I find it hard to stick to just one style/aesthetic in my closet.

I know the feeling. I live in a small, closed-minded, racist town. I get made fun of a lot because of how I dress, how I'm learning the Japanese language and culture, and how I listen to foreign music. But I still be myself and do what I want. As Dr. Seuss says, "People who matter don't mind, and people who mind don't matter." I wear a large variety of Lolita fashions, and that makes me happy. Wearing a T-shirt and jeans everyday doesn't. I stick with what makes me happy.

You should check out the Gothic Lolita Bible magazine. They provide some sewing patterns, but remember large sizes are not the same as in America or England, they are way smaller. If I remember correctly a large is like a size 10 in the US. But you can always grade the patterns large or small.

It's his own choice, and part of his image. Lots of people would be shocked and sad if he was to suddenly change it, since it's been a part of who we know him as for so long. Just because you personally don't like it doesn't mean there aren't people who do you know. Besides, Mana is not, and has never been a singer. He's (currently) a guitarist. He's also played drums, keyboard and bass before, but he's never been a singer.
