I clean my engine before changing out spark plugs. I agree that the best spark plugs are what is recommended in your vehicle's owner's manual. This is an excellent tutorial, and you save lots of money in labor.

The 08 was crazy easy. Like one bracket driver side. Took me 2 day search to find this one. Thanks again

Awesome tutorial, I'm going to be doing this on my 2015 pretty soon so it was great to see exactly what needs to be pulled out of the way. Love yall's content and hope to see you on the east coast trails sometime!

Some mechanics also recommend replacing boots on the ignition coils every time when spark plugs are replaced. Denso 671-6310 would be the set for this 4Runner.

While the drivers side is free of crap it’s a good idea to replace the pcv valve too. They’re cheap and quick to replace. Good job on the video!

@2:55 you said "... passenger's side air injection pump". Not trying to be snobby, I swear, but for anyone wondering where to find information on these things, they're called "Emission Control Valve Sets". The passenger's side valve is the "NO. 1 EMISSION CONTROL VALVE SET" (for Bank 1), and the driver's side valve is called "NO. 2 EMISSION CONTROL VALVE SET" (for Bank 2). Torque Specs & Part Numbers: NO. 1 & 2 EMISSION CONTROL VALVE SET nuts (3 each): 15 ft-lbs. (socket size: 12mm) (part #: 90178A0048) Air Tube bolts (2 each): 7 ft-lbs. (socket size: 10mm) (part #: 90105A0079) Air Tube Gasket: (part #: 173770S010) Just in case someone looses or breaks them! Awesome video!

Thanks for the video! I just did my ‘17 ORP (w/61k mi). Man, the drivers side, especially the back 2, were a pain! Only 2 cuts on the hand, not bad!

That's great how-to guide. Now I need to check when mine were last done! I love that you also included torque specs - most people forget about them! If anyone else is looking for other torque specs, they're all in the repair guide, and p115 has the 1GR-FE engine specs: drive.google.com/file/d/1uALrUvQImeaVQc7nemPdqFuuxjdVwRJ_/view

Thanks man! I rarely include them myself because we are huge advocates of people doing their own verifications.

Here's a tip I learned a long time ago from an experienced (old) electrician. On your roll of tape every 90 degrees lightly score the edge of the roll with a knife. When you need to pull a piece off it tears easily at the closest score mark.

Always enjoy your informational vids. Great job, and I consider you and the information you put out there a trusted source. Your dual battery system caught my eye and have been looking into powering my rig. Have you done any vids on you power backbone configuration? Thanks again and keep it coming.

I am looking at buying 2014-2016 4RUNNER either the SR5 or Limited. The 4x4 options are so different between the Part-time and Full-time 4x4. Do you know if one is more robustly built or are they both comparably reliable. I intend to keep for many many years like 10-15 years. I don’t want to experience any electronic failures. I live in Toronto Canada 🇨🇦. Not much snow here, little warmer than what people think.

I did mine the first time around 63,000 in 2015 and doing it again tomorrow with 117,000. 6 years on the plugs is enough for me.

Thanks for the video! A few things I would recommend........ I would ditch the plastic engine top cover as it serves no real purpose. Also, prior to coil pack removal I always give the valve cover area a brush off to remove stuck on debris followed by a blast of air from a compressor to remove loose particles that can fall into the plug wells. Once the coil packs are off I give the plugs wells themselves a blast of compressed air to get as much debris out as possible before plug removal.

If you disconnect the battery, the OBDII will reset, and you must do the Drive-Cycle because it is not going to pass the Smog test.

My spark plug replacement video would be shorter. It would just be a shot of me handing several hundred dollars to my mechanic followed by a shot of me sitting in a dingy waiting room flipping through the May 2003 issue of Sports Illustrated and checking my watch every few seconds.

TORQUE SPECS MUST BE ADJUSTED DOWNWARD WHEN USING ANTI-SEIZE. Cleaning the throttle body at this time is also a good move, even the mass air flow sensor should get a spray along with a change out of the air filters. As for wearing gloves, it's not only hard to do camera stuff, there's so much that needs to be done without them! Too bad there's not a nitrile glove that really does protect the skin and still give a good tactile feel.

For some of you novices like me who are changing their Spark Plugs themselves for the first time, I recommend watching "The Car Care Nuts" instructional video instead of this one as this one skips over many pertinent steps that'll prevent you from having a smooth installation. Anyways, good luck!
