I think Abby puts a HUGE amount of pressure on Maddie to be perfect....to be her "number one girl" as Abby just said and win every single competition....and so, WHEN Maddie does something amazing like dancing on Ellen, and its NOT recognized by Abby giving her praise and respect.....but is instead used in a negative way because Abby is essentially saying "all of this fame is distracting you, so now, you are a second-place dancer and you are losing, so you aren't as special to me....." l DO think that hurts Maddie and breaks her confidence. She wants Abby to be proud of her and Abby isn't as proud of her anymore.

She'll say she acts in the best interest of her students when in fact she grooms and manipulates a select few of her "favorites" just so she can piggyback off their eventual success. Maddie was able to achieve bigger success without Abby, so Abby no longer has any need for her. Like any abuser, Abby attempts to shame and guilt Maddie to reel her back in, but by this point, she no longer has the same hold on her.

I think the issue with Abby is in season 1-4, she was the reason for Maddies success. She was known as “Maddie from Dance Moms/Aldc” but then Maddie started booking jobs without Abby. (The movie, Ellen etc.) and I think Maddies success really got to Abby. I feel like she knew Maddie was leaving soon but hoped that if she brought her down, Maddie would stay.
