Another great video! My advice is to when traveling in Europe, try to dress to blend into the crowd and not look like a tourist. Leave all clothes and hats that suggest that you are from North America (shirts and hats with sports logos, destination shirts, etc). Never place your wallet or purse on the counter when you are buying something, even for a few seconds, as this makes you an easy target. In a crowd, when something happens around you or someone approaches you, do not get involved and do not lower your guard, it is better to say "thank you" and keep moving. We have also found that most vendors in Europe do not take the Discover credit card. I always use a money belt and a cross body bag for security. We always travel with about 100 euros for each port that we visit on the cruise. We always keep several small bills in our pockets and larger bills in the money belt. We try to use a credit card for most purchases at established businesses and restaurants. We let the credit card company address the conversion rates. We have found that several credit cards acquired through the major airlines provide numerous perks, including no transaction fees for converting foreign currencies. We use a cruise folder on our phone to store all airline, hotel, cruise info, dinning packages, and excursions conformation emails. Additionally, my wife always prepares a cruise folder (as you shared) for paper copies of all our cruise info and reservations. She also prepares a one-page calendar (monthly calendar) and includes airline flight info, hotel info, including hotel address and conformation number, port arrival and departure times, excursion information, and speciality dinning reservations. This one-page calendar hangs on our cabin wall near the door and it is amazing how often we refer to the calendar for information. Once on board, she will also add meeting times for all excursions. Also, don't forget to take pictures of your luggage and all the things you have packed as these will be extremely helpful if your luggage is lost. We even take a picture of the clothes we have hanging up and laid out as we begin packing. Sorry for the comment length...

as someone else already commented about currency - never chose you own, because each shop can have their own exchange rate, and it won't be favorable. let your Bank do the exchange and you will get the best market rate at the time of the transaction. Documents in a folder? Bloody hell, I have a 1.5" binder full of everything! (Hotels before and after, all the cruise documents, airplane info, shorex and tickets to important sites, etc.) We're gone for a total of 16 days, so there's a lot of moving parts!

Always check the size of the carry-on luggage you’re allowed on your flights. If you’re flying with a European airline, the allowed size for the larger carry-on bag is usually smaller than with US airlines. Sometimes you might have booked with a US airline, but they could be code-sharing with a European airline and using that airline’s plane, so the smaller luggage size applies. Don’t assume that they’ll let you onboard with the larger luggage - I’ve often seen people having their carry-ons tagged for gate-checking because they’re oversized. Also, there are some airlines that only allow a single bag as carry-on, so watch out for that too.

I also had a hard time finding flights for our family within Europe that would allow us to have a checked bag and a carry-on. We were gone for almost three weeks so we had a lot of luggage. We ended up taking a train from Barcelona to Paris. We did a Western Mediterranean cruise and then spent a week in Paris.

I carry a dry powder hand wash - low sudsing and easier to fully rinse out. Being a carry on only girl it helps to have clean clothes. I also suggest getting a debit card independent of your bank account, we use Charles Schwab as they refund any fees. We easily found bank ATM to get local currency when needed. As Alana says, allow your bank to do the conversion so read the screen carefully when you use them. Also do not lay your phone on the table when eating - easily picked up. Have not had any issues on any of our travels. Already looking for ideas for our cruise next summer- love planning.

When I get home after a trip I always check the toiletry bag and refill any used items. Also, I pack in it a small first aid kit, and some travel size over the counter meds like for a cold, bug bites, insect repellent, upset stomach, etc. You name it, I have it.

For the ears when flying, there's a simple mechanical procedure called the valsalva maneuver. Simply tilt your head to the left or right, pinch your nose, close your mouth, and try to blow - NOT TOO HARD - through your nose. You should feel a slight pop in the ear and relieve the pressure.

Hi Ilana. Great video as always. I always bring a 2 passport photos in case need to redo passport or visa. Have found that only major bank Visa attached atm debit cards w a pin work in Europe. Carry euro coins for bathrooms. Always use the bathroom when in cafe museums etc as none in stores or street. I now carry these fabulous tiny personal toilet kits contain tp, seat cover, hand and butt wipes. From Amazon. a tiny bottle of water in my purse and a scarf for churches!

Always put a copy of the front page of your passport in each of your checked bags. If the tags are lost, the airline can identify the owner of the bag. It is also a lifesaver if another passenger mistakenly takes your luggage. It has happened to me. A fellow passenger took my roller board suitcase from the overhead bin and took it home. Quite a shock for them, and a nightmare for me. My bag was clearly tagged, and I had a large colorful ribbon tied to the handle. 😩

MEDICATIONS - just because you used a particular medication at home, doesn't mean you can pack it and use it in certain countries. You could be formally detained for doing so! Some countries require you to provide a doctor's letter as to why you have been prescribed it and dosage, a replacement prescription, and the medication in its original box. It is your own responsibility to check each country you will be visiting.

Be careful when choosing your own currency instead of Euro's. I found that my credit card had better exchange rates than the retailers bank so I saved money by paying in Euro's. When I bought tickets to see the show at the Moulin Rouge this past April, it showed me how much they would charge me in USA Dollars if I chose to have them do the exchange. I went ahead and paid in Euro's and the amount of my credit card was less than the USA Dollars that they quoted me. Most online sites that I read said to always pay in the native currently due to credit card companies usually having better rates than the bank that is used by the retailer.

Hey, Ileana! Great vid as usual! Even though we’re not going to the Med, all your tips are great for up and down the California coast!!! 1. I grabbed/bought a USB 3.0 splitter, which has a single USB plugs in but has around 4 USB plug-ins. 2. The zhuanglin water shoes Iliana recommends on her Amazon storefront are FANTASTIC. Support is there, quick drying, I use them 4-5 days for aqua aerobics and walking beforehand. Multi colors, they last a LONG time! Great value. I teach aqua aerobics and they’re great on land AND in the water! 3. I put our name on our towel clips in Sharpie. 4. FINALLY I have a use for the pashimas I bought in 2010 on my last cruise! 5. Correct re: bandaids: HOWEVER, for them to last on your body, I buy waterproof. 6. For the MDR, I wear the days’ capris and throw a thin skirt over them!!!

More power to you! We managed carryon only on a recent trip to Alaska but I'd hate to think of us trying to do the same to the Med again in summer. It was so hot last month 🥵🥵 when we were there, going from Rome to Florence and then the 14 day cruise for 19 days total. We did at least 8 full loads of wash on the ship because we'd get so sweaty on excursions and run out of things to wear. If we'd done carryon only it would have been triple that much washing. As it was, I was resenting the time spent in the laundry as it was, plus the expense. I'd hate to think if we'd been on a ship without self laundry. 😮

@@SilverDraco Yes, I guess I won't really know until I am there and going out on excursions re: how many clothes we go through. I think I would also take advantage of any laundry services available. We will be staying in Italy for 4 days per and post cruise and our hotel has laundry which will be good as well. I do know that when I usually pack in my maximal style, I tend to over pack and don't wear many items. :)

I always carry a bright coloured bag as my personal item / going ashore bag, its easily identified and less likely to be stolen, thieves want to be as inconspicuous as possible, they will steal a black or navy big rather than mine.

If you are travelling with certain medications that are Controlled Substances here in the USA, it's very important to keep them in the original dispensing vial you got then from at the pharmacy. You should always keep the original label from the pharmacy on the dispensing vial making sure everything on it is legible. And also ask for a copy of the prescription to take with you when you travel. There are many countries that will not let you bring in any of certain medications no matter what and it's often hard to find out what's ok and what will get seized. Don't try to figure it out on the Internet. Call their embassy here in the USA and ask if you'll be fine with bringing your medicine in. And look y'all - weed is not legal 'medicine' and even with small amounts you'll be considered a drug smuggler so don't try to get it by them. In many countries CBD products are just as illegal as marihuana.

Am intrigued to know whether the TSA Clear Bags have been universally accepted by European airport security? Currently, clear 2-dimensional bags measuring 20cms x 20cms are the accepted norm, whereas the TSA bags are 3-dimensional.
