I finally found a post of her singing it. I was so disappointed by all the backlash online from the shallow minds. Bashing everything from the NFL to the media for allowing the song to be sung. Seems like any expression of Blackness is somehow divisive to a lot of people. I suggested they compare the lyrics of both and see which promotes divisiveness. I got no response as of yet.
@isaiahhill2104 Жыл бұрын
Well, the act itself is sort of divisive, considering no other culture is represented with this anthem, especially considering that this was the only other “national” anthem was sung. It didn’t seem like the same treatment was given to Hispanics, Asians, Mexicans, etc. As a black individual myself, this just comes across as pandering and racial favoritism. At least the Star Spangled Banner would feature people of more than just one racial background. (“Feature” meaning we would see more than just one race shown on camera during the performance).
@offgrid67899 ай бұрын
No one cares if someone has a certain culture based on there race or ethnicity, but the national anthem has nothing to do with race or ethnicity it is about all people of the United States coming together as one country and honoring our national anthem as one people not divided by skin color or race, it is about national pride in our country not a black or white country.

This is my childhood. We sang this song so many times in music class in Washington, DC. We sang the star spangled banner and this. It was the norm so I'm surprised to find that younger folks don't know about it. Not only did we sing it we had to know why and you learned the true history of America. The song just gives you hope of the possibilities. But alas people would rather sing the National anthem with it's demoralizing connotation. Imagine always having to create something separate because you are not wanted or celebrated in the mainstream. They also make sure you know it was written by a black person so that even if you like the song you may reject it just cause.
@meeraftaddesse8956 Жыл бұрын
It must have been a DC thing because we sang it every morning, right after the Pledge of Allegiance and America (My Country Tis of Thee).

Lovely, majestic. It was a chance for me to explain to hubby the history and meaning of this song. You just don't know how important it was to have him take baby steps towards climbing out of his prejudiced hole. He listened & learned. Such a great idea on the part of Super Bowl planners-i hope others had similar teachable moments.

This song doesn't cause divisiveness; it creates harmony and unity. The version by by Francis Scott Keyes and James Welfon Johnson were written in 20th century. It's appropriate for Black History Month; it educates those who aren't aware of this civil rights movement base and anthem from NAACP. Also, in this superbowl both quarterbacks are African American which is another first. Those who oppose it as an being woke is not understanding its origin or allowing another anthem/narrative to be told only the mainstream Caucasian version to be known. There is more than one cultural anthem but the narrative and representation is now being created in 21st century.
