Wonderful. I much prefer this to some of the newer, modern arrangements. I grew grew up listening to arrangements closer to this one. Thank you.

the prayerful verse near the end was spot on old school rendition.

Roland Carter's arrangement is gorgeous.

It would have been awesome and "true" to have a more culturally diverse group of singers performing this spiritually patriotic song of "freedom!" Dr. Roland Carter, the awesome arranger of this work, would have been the perfect guest conductor!! He would have pushed the dynamics and anchored the tempo!

Lyrics Lift every voice and sing, Till earth and heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of Liberty; Let our rejoicing rise High as the list’ning skies, Let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, Let us march on till victory is won. Stony the road we trod, Bitter the chast’ning rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died; Yet with a steady beat, Have not our weary feet Come to the place for which our fathers sighed? We have come over a way that with tears has been watered. We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered, Out from the gloomy past, Till now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast. God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way; Thou who hast by Thy might, Led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee, Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee; Shadowed beneath Thy hand, May we forever stand, True to our God, True to our native land.

I was looking for a version where I could actually hear the melody over the embellishments. Should have started the search with MTC, what was I thinking!

To the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: _please_ add this hymn to the new _Hymns_ hymnal you’re working on! Use a regular hymnal arrangement as found in various African-American church hymnals, not this Roland Carter arrangement, of course.
@you2candoit4 жыл бұрын
Definitely an awesome, patriotic hymn!

My understanding is that they are making it more internationally-focused, and although this has great significance, the "native land"-type hymns will likely not be included.

I would of preferred they sang "Deep River" instead. It's a beautiful yet haunting black-American spiritual.

yep. A little discouraging. But the anthem is upbeat, encouraging, and radiates positivity. I think that's the anthem's purpose.
