Being a life long LCMS lutheran, our churches need more of this in our worship services to help reverse the trend of our church losing so many members. Congrats on your St. Paul's going this way!!

The cameras of course were stationary, there was no processional cross to capture, so I certainly could/should have put a cross in when editing. Thanks for pointing this out.

I watch KZbin videos before going to bed and hymn tunes usually give me the relaxation I need for slumber but this WOKE ME UP!!! WOW!! I've studied organ a bit and am amazed by your King Of Instruments. Great placement in the sanctuary would love to hear the Trompettes (I assume that's what your builder labeled them) sticking out from the rest of the pipes. Not to negate the Brass section here or anything else. WONDERFUL. This I'm sure was a blessed service.

John, your congregation is very blessed to have your outstanding, majestic talent. I have served as a church organist in the Lutheran Church, M.S., for forty years. In my most recent position, I had the honor of playing an Allen Renaissance w/Midi System. It still is not a pipe organ, but pretty darn close. Florida does not like Pipe Organs!! God bless! P.S. Loved the volume!
@michaelhoerig59204 жыл бұрын
I agree with you about John's talent! I disagree with you, though, about any electronic substitute being 'darn close' to the real thing. I was an organist in Florida in the 1990s (Tampa). I installed a 40-rank pipe organ in a Catholic church there. Florida does like pipe organs and they have the money to build them! Problem is that they're building and enlarging churches so fast that some take the electronic route because it's faster and easier.

I'm from the WELS (most conservative of the US Lutheran synods), and even though this is ELCA, it is so Lutheran that I could recognize it immediately: full choir, brass, and those handbells that pop up a lot at Lutheran parishes. And we have done this song before in our own services.
@Computerbusters10 жыл бұрын

@averygoodrich29277 жыл бұрын
mewirth4 ELCA is most Liberal and the least Lutheran of all the synods. The ALS, LCMS, and WELS are the most Lutheran synods.
@reformedpaul7 жыл бұрын
Pretty interesting that this is being described as "Lutheran" when "Lift High the Cross" is originally an Anglican hymn. :D
@mic12406 жыл бұрын
Thomas Goodrich of course, ELCA is the largest of all the American Lutheran church bodies, and only of the American bodies in full communion with the rest of the world’s Lutherans (unlike WELS or LCMS) so not sure why would suggest ELCA is in any way “less” Lutheran. Given WELS and LCMS are not part of the global Lutheran community (and smaller in numbers in US)

David M because in Confessional Lutheran Churches we confess our sins and are given Absolution weekly, and our Pastors preach Christ and Him crucified. It's not popular with people who'd rather have their "ears tickled" , as Paul remarked 2K years ago.
@arpschneider11 жыл бұрын
You KNOW you're talking about Lutherans, right? The expressions you seek are not "typical Lutheran fare!" That said: some churches, such as our own (St. Paul's LCMS in Decatur, IL) are starting to move more in that direction. We have over 2,000 members!
@salvation986811 жыл бұрын
Mr. Walter, Please give this gentleman a break! Do you know the responsibility the organist has? Basically, it is his or her job to run the service. To make sure everything goes off without a hitch. Not only is he playing a magnificent instrument superbly, he is also directing a bell choir and a choir! He is humble to boot. He thanked you for your suggestion. Praise the Lord for the gifts he is bestowing upon John. I shall listen to this many times to come. Such a blessing, John.

The only thing this Anglican Brit would change here would be to have it as a grand processional - this great hymn, particularly in such a stirring arrangement, needs movement to go with it - headed by a crucifer, of course......
@JRPmuzik7 жыл бұрын
I agree!
@robertjoseph13456 жыл бұрын
In my church we do this as a grand processional and when our mass is the solemn pontifical high mass our inscense bearer leads out with the crucifer right behind him with torch bearers then 8 or 12 acolytes then another crucifer and torch bearers then the sacred ministers then the sub deacons then the deacons of the eucharist the deacon of the gospel then the consistory and concelebratory priests then the deacons of the throne surrounding our bishop. As our masses are celebrated according to the rubrics of pope st pius XII
@mic12406 жыл бұрын
Lutherans typically have crucifers for most services, particularly special festival days. Odd in some way not here. It is an ELCA (biggest of US Lutheran bodies) which most often will, as well as acolytes, sometimes incense even depending on parish.

Mr Potts, I think there is a place for all types of Christian music in the "the church". I do feel that the mainline denominations are not attracting the young people. I am an organist in S.W. Florida. I am observing fewer confirmation classes. And those that are confirmed leave, after they graduate from High School. We never see them again. I don't agree with happy church doctrine. But, my Jesus is alive! Let's celebrate with music. That, I'm quite sure we can agree upon. PLT!
@figuhrfabien30605 жыл бұрын
It is not our responsibility to attract young people. We are to lift high the cross. If I may echo the words of Jesus, He said: And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself." Notice who it is that draws or attracts young people. Our magnificent Jesus.
