Hi Tim. This is a great method for showing small bites from lethargic fish, but it is completely different to fishing with a Method Feeder. You should consider either method based upon the swim you are fishing and the conditions on the day.

Nice catch sir, some doubt I have, the same distance where ur float is, let say there is 20 to 30 feet deep water. So sir in such location how I can use float fishing set upfor carp fishing ( Libeo Rohita fish) or what would be rod reel and float to fix. Plz reply sir ❤ from India

Hi Den! This is my favourite method for summer when fishing for Carp. I mostly use it with the lightest float than i can, because I want ultimate sensitivity in my fishing. I mostly use paste, which I make myself out of milled pellets and flour. With the flour, you can cast the lump (size of a walnut ) pretty far. But I urge you to youse Hooks like size 10's or 12's, because otherwhise you willl completely despair.

Hi Maik. long time, No Hear. Thanks for your comments. It is a fun way of fishing, but I'm not sure why you think I should use larger hooks, or why I would despair, unless you need them to hold onto the paste. In that case, I completely understand.

Probably my favourite float is the Antennae. So many shotting pattern variations you can adapt your fishing it to, which includes the weather and including light.. Bit of a struggle on rivers...BUT!.. depending on how you know the river/stream... it can be a great float.. I would not bother though on fast or deep rivers..

So I'm in Canada. And with the Influx of so many Asians I noticed they like to do course fishing with much longer antenna type floats. I went ahead and used this method and it worked exactly the same. Anyone else us the larger longer Asian antenna floats?

update I used the long antenna float and used his exact method just the tip of the antenna showing fishing over depth and caught a 16 to 20 lb common on a size 14 barbless hook was an amazing fight.

Great video, I learned a lot from this and tried it out a fair bit. A problem I'm coming across with this setup, though, is that small fish tend to shove around my hook bait on the bottom along with the bottom shot, sometimes even nibbling a piece of sweetcorn off the hook. That moves the float up just like a lift bite only that it stays in place right after that. Did you encounter this too maybe? Is there any way to deal with the small ones?

Thanks for your comments. This rig was originally designed for bigger fish like Tench, so very small fish were not much of a problem. I know this may not help much in your case, but you do learn to read what is actually a bite and what isn't. If you are still having problems, you could switch to the telltale shot style like in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qamcXoZ6rqynqZY It is very similar but the lowest shot sits just off the bottom, so if the bait gets moved around, the float will return to its normal position.

Hi Den Another good tutorial if you use a loaded waggler would you still put bulk shot under the float

Hi Richard. If you work out how you many small Dropper Shots you need, then any extra shots which are required to cock the float properly will go directly under the float. As an example, if you have a 3AAA (2.4gram) loaded Waggler, lets assume that it requires another BB shot (0.4gram) to cock it properly, so only a small amount of the tip shows. If the water is 4ft deep, you might have 3 x No8 shot (3 x 0.06 = 0.18gram) spread out down the line to control the sink rate of your bait. Therefore, you need something like a No4 shot (0.20gram) to get your tip sunk to the correct level. This shot would go directly under the float. I hope this helps.

Great to see these floats being used correctly. I go back 45+ years to when I started to use driftbeater floats from Drennan. Fishing an estate lake in Sussex for Bream. The water was about 10 foot deep and I'd be casting some 25 to 30 yards out. I'd have a 2+ swan shot float and my tell tail shot would be a No1 set about 8 inches above the bait with about 4 or 5 inches of line on the bottom of the lake. Bites were unmissable as the float would literally raise some 6 inches or so out of the water. There was no mulling over the _"Hmm... Was that a bite or not?"_ When you got a bite. You knew you had a bite. And a cuppa tea and a bite are synonymous. You can't have one without the other and 8/10, the tea ends up on the ground or your lap 8-))... Looks like a nice venue? Are you open to telling where it is, perchance?

@@FishingwithDen Haha! Nope. Slightly further north of you by a good few thousands of miles or so. But it did answer one query. I watched your 20 1/5 lb carp you caught on the pole and also these carp you were catching here. All very lean compared to fat lumps in the UK and Europe. If your 20lb'er was a European fish, it'd be nudging the scales nearer to 30/35 lbs. The nearest we have to your carp are the genuine _"wild carp"_ in the UK. But waters for them are very few and far between. In fact, I've not seen a proper wildie for over 40 years now. It's all king carp. But these wildies fight like they were possessed. You hook one of them and think it's a double figure carp, then when it's landed, it's no more than about 3lbs 8-))...
