conversely, turning off A/C going up hill is like hitting nitrous in a CRV lol.

The best part was 15:25 i was shocked that CRV did it on the first try while patrol could not, i think its much more fun when you do such things in CRV than in a 4x4 truck with lockers :D

Great vid. I love to see other people off-roading in the rd1 crv! I’ve got one and I love wheeling in it. I will say tho, it is certainly an AWD not 4wd. I wanna call a 4wd too but it’s sadly just not 😕
@isakjetbean4 жыл бұрын
Only reason I call it 4WD and not AWD (aside from the explanation in the vid) is because of the connotation AWD has in Aus and the differences between RT4WD, AWD and true 4WD. Especially with how large and varied the AWD market is, saying AWD in Australia will get you laughed off the track. There's this mindset that AWD is going to have all sorts of sensors that effect how it drives offroad and onroad. I find the CR-V more like an old, open-diff 4wd, it handles predictably with no power diversion being sent to different axles by a computer. Naturally, it's not a true 4WD for reasons such as the lack of a real transfer case, no diff locks and it's a fixed ratio transfer with no low range. But it is an open-diff mechanically-driven system with a constantly active transfer case and the dual pump acts as a viscous coupling and is intentionally limited on power delivery (transfer is like 65/35 I believe) so until excess power can spin up the viscous clutch pack in the input shaft of the diff (revs up/tyres slipping) the diff doesn't engage. By all intents, aside from the ability to go into low range, it's essentially just a bottlenecked open diff 4WD. However, every time I describe it as AWD, people assume it's electronically controlled, that the power split is computer managed, using ABS sensors and traction control to limit wheel spin. There's no automatic centre-diff lock to limit power down to the rear. In this sense, it's a lot closer to a 4WD than AWD. So it's kind of down to pedantics, probably why Honda market it as RT4WD and not AWD because it's not quite the same. In any case, it's definitely not a TRUE 4WD though, that's for sure and I'll never argue against that. These days though if someone asks me "is it 4wd or awd" I just say "uhhhhhhhhhhh kinda both it's wack don't worry" 😂
@cortonolver52764 жыл бұрын
@@isakjetbean I agree awd isn’t the best description. Usually how I describe it to people is that it’s not a true 4wd, but when it feels wheels slip in the front, it engages 4wd rather than sending power to certain wheels and braking others like an awd does.

13:06 - where is your RWD? It had to work at that moment.

The rear is working, you just can't see it. It's an open diff, it'll never spin 4 wheels at once like you're expecting to see. Without something to lock the spider gears, if all 4 wheels have no traction, all your power will be diverted to the wheels with least traction. So because my rear right had less resistance, same as my front left, they were spinning. If you look closely at the inside camera you can see mud splash along the driver side and the windshield as I accelerate, that's coming from the back right spinning and flicking mud up

I'd suggest watching the video below, you'll see that the power split isn't evenly delivered to each wheel, and because the power goes to the path of least resistance, even a tiny bit of resistance will stop it spinning because the other wheel is spinning super fast kzbin.info/www/bejne/aISVZqCpf5yUobs
