I agree bro, so many people don't realize how dope the SP-404MK2 is. I understand the lore behind Akai and the MPC, and I love the MPC, but I have just as much love for my MK2 if not more, and it's the centerpiece of everything I do 🙏🏾✊🏾💚
@LiftedNoise Жыл бұрын
I might dare say that too. I feel loyal to the mpc cause that's my first sampler and it's kind of hard to say with all the Feautures they offer now but something about its power and simplicity that I just really appreciate.

I like how you sequence your drums by loosening up the quantize just a bit. I’ve tried a few methods with mixed results but your method looks great.
@LiftedNoise Жыл бұрын
Thanks man! I struggled with that for a bit. I tried all the way off and couldn't get a good loop and other settings just didn't sound natural to me. This seems to work well for me most of the time.

Most people don’t wanna learn the button mashing but imo it’s super easy once you practice it. I love the MPC but I have to be honest that it feels like using a daw when I use the MPC. SP404Mk2 feels like an instrument. You have to practice to get good.
@LiftedNoise Жыл бұрын
Maybe that's what it is exactly. The MPC has an extensive amount of features and deep navigation. The simplicity although maybe odd sequencer make it more playable like an instrument. Either one can feel complicated until you learn it. I like that the SP is limited bit with just the right amount of power to it.
@bjamminsincebirth3494 Жыл бұрын
@@LiftedNoise yeah that’s what it seems to be. MPC is solid but it’s definitely easier because you can adjust (visually) off notes and midi. That’s what a daw has. SP is about the feeling.

Word I just grabbed one about week ago caught on to the sequencer/ pattern fairly quick with the pattern link in making whole songs. I think what frustrates me the most is the export cause I’m so use to finishing tracks a daw and that copy remain to separate a track to export is to much work. I want just to track out and call it a day.
@LiftedNoise Жыл бұрын
You're a rare case. I'm sure it would be possible to implement a way of doing all the pads at once. Who knows if Roland will make that a priority. The USB could if been multitrack that could of simplified it but I don't really think about it cause I don't use a DAW. The only time I've "tracked out" is when I sample all the individual sounds of a beat into my live 2 but I'll just recreate it in the the live 2 standalone
@Ink0ne415 Жыл бұрын
@@LiftedNoise I feel ya on that I was just like to creat a whole song from start to finish and not be able to track it out or to even move the wav files to another machine and I’m doing 8 to 10 tracks is crazy. And Roland is almost there. I’ve watched so many vids to get where y’all are with the sp to get stuck. You and my boy inspired me to get this joint much respect it’s a dope piece 🫡.

Question 🙋♂️ does the sp404mk2 have a glide/pitch/portamento glide function between pads? So that when playing a bass let’s say it slides up or down from 1 note/pad/pitch to the other note/pad/pitch? Thanks
@LiftedNoise10 ай бұрын
There is a legato mode in the chromatic mode. That's probably the closest thing, but it's not quite the same. 1 pitch bends into the next, but it's continous through the length of the sample so it doesn't play each pitch at the start point.

One thing I dont get is if I do a recording and I mess up, why cant I just push a button to redo it? Do I really have to click out of rec, go to edit, and delete all the pads, then restart the recording (basically like pressing 10 different buttons)? Or am I missing some shortcut to undo the entire 2-4 bars set.
@LiftedNoise Жыл бұрын
There is no undo for the entire 2 bars but the UNDO is the PATTERN SELECT BUTTON while holding SHIFT. I believe this only UNDOs upto the last 16 pad presses. Or you do have ERASE mode which you can use to delete pads in real-time while holding the pads you wish to remove.
@daniel_dumile Жыл бұрын
On MPC for ex you can undo the whole space between when you hit rec->stop by hitting undo
@LiftedNoise Жыл бұрын
I just find the Pattern Edit Delete quicker. Once you develop the muscle memory.

It’s kind of a legacy SP404 workflow feature at this point. It forces you to commit to what you put down. It’s a big part of why I like making beats on this thing. I can’t overthink it and get too precious about what I’m making. The only way is forward.

Ngl. I’ve had mine for about 2 weeks now. I’ve done everything in it except actually make a beat in the sequencer. Having Koala sampler as a sequencer or any other sequencer is good enough, but I gotta use this one because I want that authentic feeling I made the entire beat in this piece of hardware and not just using resampler or bpm locking loops.
@LiftedNoise Жыл бұрын
Yea man that's definitely a feeling for me as well. I like working standalone and doing the most I can with one piece, that's why I rarely combine my mpc with this. Koala is pretty fire on its own with a cool controller. If someone made a controller designed for koala with a built in interface they'd be selling like TEs ko ep-133s
