Lifting an above ground pool leg with a basic car jack

There are some great videos out there on using large floor jacks to lift the legs of above ground pools when they are full of water, but here’s a method of using the basic scissor jack that comes standard in almost all cars to do the same.
This demonstration was done using the popular Intex 18 ft. above ground pool but would likely work for other pool models as well. BTW this was filmed during COVID-19 self-isolation of 2020, so I consider myself fortunate to have been able to snag one of these great pools before the supply dried up.
Note: Be careful when you have your leg jacked up not to put your hand, fingers, toes, or anything you value under the leg. If there is a slippage or breakage of equipment that leg is going to come down with a massive amount of force. Do this at your own risk and please, be careful!

We had a low spot that would allow water to spill out when kids were swimming. The dog started digging there because the ground was soft. I debated draining half the water so I could relevel before the dog caused the next great flood. Then I saw your video. I would never have tried this without seeing you do it. 45 mins later, problem fixed!!! Thanks for saving the day. KZbin rocks.

Doing it with the jack upside down was a good idea and MUCH safer than some of the dangerous redneck fixes I have seen on YT.

great idea. However, if you turned the jack 90 degrees you could put more of a vertical lift instead of pushing the pole up and in... :)

my concern would be that due to the weight of the water, the liner would tear. i would recommend to drain the pool to at least half and then a jacking method.

I dont think this actually levels the pool...it just stretches the liner to make it look level.

This was unnecessary. The direction it was tilting wasn't going to affect it. Jacking it up like that puts a lot of pressure on that point. You really risk tearing the liner.

Michael, mine has 2 legs (on higher front end) slightly leaning inward. Not badly though... I was thinking of doing this myself. If they lean a tad inward but all others are nice and straight, will it be a problem?

@@basiaboyz7257 If the lean is only a tad bit you may want to take a pressure treated two by four, cut a notch on one end and place it up against the support and the other end in the ground with a wedge/steak to keep the brace from moving. This might give you peace of mind that the two inward posts won't budge. Another option is to drain the pool about half way before trying this technique with the two offending posts. Good luck. I did this exact thing about 10 years ago. The creaking is scary, but it worked. Put a brick under the leg
