Incorrect yet common practice where I work to engage a single link basket hitch with small diameter shackles. I always tell people that over time they're going to be gradually wearing out the same link.

Great work mate. Question….. I’m aware that shortening chains with grab hooks derates capacity by 25% ( point loading) but inline shorteners don’t derate capacity? Not many are aware of this Keep up the awesome work mate

@@courtneymccagh3815 always seem illogical to me i cant back hook chain to loop because point loading but i can put a single link in a shortner. I know most new chains theres no deration now but its per mans specs

Do you have a source for the graphic you used for derating the chain based on the number of links engaged? 3:31

Such a great video. Where did you find these pdfs ? I'd love to download them to my phone and screen shot the pages. ( I don't know how to send a DM on here so I can give you my email ) So if you haven't got the intermediate hooks then " technically" you shouldn't back hook to make the basket. Or can you use the shortener to make the basket to lift the object ?

Well if you were basketing such a small shackle to begin with obviously the load is not too heavy so the chains are definitely good.

Are we getting a true "doubling" by going around a load 20x the chain diameter? What about the bullring swl? I've heard you can only go 1.3 times .. Thoughts?
@riggingcranetips73933 ай бұрын
yeah man, so you cant do it back to the same ring. your would need another ring.
