In this Reliant Regal Restoration episode we clear out the interior and 36yrs of rat infestation, then we lift the body off to reveal probably the worst Regal Chassis ever to be seen!
This barn find British classic car will make a brilliant Retro Ride once it is complete.
Using only DIY mechanic skills and tools we will build a usable daily sleeper.

Check out RestoRestore on KZbin, his vids helped me get the shell off the chassis.
/ retrorestore How you can support this channel:
I have had a few people ask how they can help support the channel, the best way is to simply watch the videos, like, share, subscribe and keep on commenting. I do this channel for fun, filming the things I would be doing anyway.
Merch:
I currently do not have a line of merch, but if people are interested I would be happy to set something up.

What great Car, I had one of these 35 years ago and did a complete registration like your doing, brings back memories, your wife is great helping you like that, a lot of work to come, I was lucky my chassis were good, but had to rebuild the engine and clean and repaint the under chassis, well done so far😘

Great to see progress so quick with your regal 21e, see you made same mistake as me first time I removed the heater box from a reliant, never knew the wires pulled out the heater body, ended up cutting and rejoining them during the rebuild

I wouldn’t be surprised if that engine works too, I bought a 76 reliant robin 850 with a seized engine, after soaking in oil for several months it became un seized and is now the best running reliant I own. Axle possibly just has the brakes stuck on, my supervan I’m restoring at present was the same, I thought the axle was seized but thankfully it was only brakes, big bonus with that regal axles is you can strip them down into all there parts very easily! Although getting the hubs off can take a bit of patience, I had to get mine pressed off, took about 8 ton pressure on one of them. Will be good to see the bodywork come together on the regal, I’ve just the basic 3/30 but such a lovely car, surprised me just how much go the little 700 engines have
@StevesMachines

I'm not going to dump them, I plan to remove all the things that may be savable from the chassis, like the engine, box, rear axle and diff. I'm also going to chop off the front of the chassis as that is solid and may be of use. The rest will then be put out for scrap. Engine wise I'm contemplating a VMax 1200 or similar. Would fit lovely and plenty of oomph behind it.

That seems a pretty good plan, chassis does look pretty much toast, similar to my vans chassis, I’ve kept it though as having thoughts about seeing if it’s possible to remake a chassis with new pieces. Might of seen my restoration on the reliant Facebook pages. The green reliant supervan 3 that had its nose broken completely off of it. Definitely usable the front of your chassis though! I had to order a part for the front of my replacement chassis as the post that holds the front shocker was missing. Incase you don’t know seen your Headlinings in great condition, if it’s possible to leave it I’d recommend that, they are an absolute pig of a part to source! At least nearly everything par the chassis looks reusable on it though😊.

It's a shame about the horn surround snapping... but it's the same as Morris Minor (and other cars) so as long as the blue badge in the middle is kept good you'll get a surround easy. But you've got so much work to do before worrying about bits like that. Good luck and I'm staying tuned!

Excellent footage / project. Iv,e always liked the Regal especially the shape of the saloon with the rear rake window. I remember a white Super Deluxe that parked a few streets away from us back in the late 80's. The paint was flat and crazed but it was the guy's everyday drive. I have a Bond Bug which I hope to get back together at some point. Do you work as a Mechanic or Engineer for a living as well as working on the project? Thanks Andrew.

Hey Andrew, I'd love to see more of your bond bug, those things are cool. I'm not a mechanic by trade, I'm a software engineer. I've always had old cars though, I prefer them. I've also had bikes and rebuilt myself a microlight.

Dear me, so much of this car is knackered it's going to cost a small fortune to repalce all the bits needed. Given it's not that rare or valuble it would have made more sence to buy a cheap runner and go from there. Btw, I had a Regal myself back in the day and a 1974 Ducati right now thats been a money pit to say the least...
