@daveroberts22968 жыл бұрын
No, they don't, do they Victoria? I remember a couple of missionaries who came to our home and we invited them in and listened to their entire spiel. It lasted a whole hour! We sat through it so that we might have a chance to introduce them to the living Lord Jesus, since we were/are both born again believers. But the presentation, which included flip charts, was a complete fabrication of Mormonism. Their talk was almost completely theologically Christian, designed I suppose to drag us into their web. But when they left, they parted by giving us each a copy of the book of mormon, asking us to read the book of Nehi, instructing us to observe what feelings we had as we read it, ie. did it leave us with a warm feeling in our heart (?). I read the passages they suggested, but all I saw was a thinly disguised plagiarism of the KJV of the Bible, using 1600's English for a book that was written in America in the 1830's. I imagine that Smith wrote it that way in a poor attempt to lend credence to his falsehood and lies. The passage that they asked me to start with was especially telling (Nehi 3?) - it told of a Jesus who supposedly appeared in America, descending from the skies, floating above the ground, and telling all who were present that He was Jesus the Christ. Well, in the Bible, God's true and living Word, Jesus never makes that statement to anyone. In fact, He deliberately refrained from making that claim Himself precisely because merely hearing those words is meaningless on its own. Here is how Jesus talks of His title in the authentic Word of God (from Matthew 16); "He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ (the Messiah), the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven." And here is the point in the above quote; for Peter to be saved, for him to understand that Jesus was the Messiah, it was necessary that he receive that knowledge directly from God to himself, probably via the working of the Holy Spirit. Otherwise, anyone could be saved by simply stating mechanically that they believed Jesus to be the Messiah (the Christ). Nope, it doesn't work that way! Without the Holy Spirit entering you and illuminating the Truth, no-one can be saved. If you are reading this still (!), and you are unsure of whether or not you truly are saved, here's how you can ask God to open your eyes. Pray the following; "God, I want to truly know the truth about You. I know that I am less than perfect, that I have missed the mark and failed to live up to what is right at times during my life. I have sinned deliberately and I regret failing to live up to your perfect standard by not loving others as Jesus always did. I can only ask You to forgive me, although I don't deserve to be forgiven. I ask for that forgiveness based on the fact that Jesus shed His pure and perfect blood on the cross at Calvary as a sacrifice to pay the price for my sins. Please cover my sins with His blood and fill me with Your Spirit so that I might be able to live a life pleasing to You. In Jesus' precious name I pray, so be it." If you prayed that prayer, and you meant it from the bottom of your heart, as sincerely as you were able, then you are now saved, and Jesus will never leave or forsake you for the rest of your life. God's Spirit has taken up residence within your heart and, just as Jesus promised, He will always stay there, regardless of any failing you may make in the future. Furthermore, just as Jesus promised to the thief who hung next to Him on the Cross, you are promised a place in paradise in heaven for all eternity when you have died. If you prayed that prayer, and you want to know what to do next, here's a good site to lead you; www.gotquestions.org/new-Christian.html I pray that God blesses you and that He keeps and holds you in the palm of His hand, just as He promises in the Bible. If you have any further questions, please feel free to email me at djrandmpr@gmail.com. Dave

When reading the Holy Bible, not the book of mormon, you will discover that Isaac had only one wife, (Rebecca), Moses had only one wife (Zipporah, who was actually of Ethiopian heritage, meaning she was black) Jacob had two wives, only due to DECEPTION, he was deceived much like he deceived his father when the birthright was stolen from Esau. Much of what these lovely ladies have been taught has not been biblical, and in fact was shaped after Joseph Smith's free mason beliefs, and especially after studying the work of Muhammed. That's why there is so many similarities in this faith with the Muslim faith. David was married a number of times, was on the run as a warrior and in hiding for years when being stalked for murder by his own son. His fall with Bathesheba (ADULTERY) especially how he had her husband murdered so that he could have her, actually resulted in the death of the first child that he and Bathesheba bore. Solomon had the amount of wives that he had, because he had significant issues with sexual addiction, as well as alcoholism. His multiple wives actually drove him to the point that he was sacrificing to idols. God did eventually redeem him, but his life was very, very hard because of the complications from so many wives and concubines. Please read the actual bible and you will see. Even the story of Creation in itself, is an example of how God intended for mankind to live. One husband and one wife. Polygamy is actually against God's law, and is illegal all 50 states of America.

It's in the LDS marriage records. The Book of Mormon condemns polygamy, but D&C 132 commands it. They ran from a religion that has rules and regulations in order to please God, to a living truth that is loving the Lord Jesus. They are now born again, that's an experience, not a doctrine or a religion. It's something that you must experience to understand it.
@stephenszucs84398 жыл бұрын
It is an experience, but many people who do not know the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob also report an internal sureness.You do know internally when you believe, but that cannot be used in place of the clear teaching of the Bible. Our emotions can fool us.....Some people new to belief fear they have "lost it" when they experience sadness....we have to run to the Bible when we don't feel it. The last century has seen an explosion of outrageous behavior and claims of new revelation from the voice of God. From the Jonestown massacre to the laughter which drowns out and replaces the scriptures and the gospel.......to the violent physical attacks of Todd (I have to obey the Lord sir) Bentley; Experience alone is useless as we are not good at discerning where the voice truly originated. We MUST rely on the Bible and we MUST test all teaching and behavior and spirits ;in the light of the Bible......................................................You are right. Religion.....any and all, every single one....will fail. Garbage. Saving faith is just what you said: accepting that we CANNOT religion our way into the presence of a Holy God.. We are saved when we give up. Like the lady at the end of this video. She gave up and threw herself on the mercy of the judge. And we can know, based on the Bible, that he ruled her perfect and righteous. All debts already paid in full.

I grew up in the mainstream church and in our search to live the basic teachings of Joseph Smith, we lived in the Allred polygamist community in Montana for four years. When we found that Joseph was a fraud, and we didn't have to go through him to be know Christ, we moved, but it wasn't as traumatic as these girls. I don't doubt their trials, but we didn't see men marrying young girls and wives, for the most part, were loving to each other. This was twenty five years ago, and we're still friends with the members in Pinesdale. They were nice folks who need more understanding. I'm very grateful to be out of the mainstream mormonism and fundamentalism.

Al Cool: please join with me and many other by lifting up the people who are still lost in this group. Especially the women and children who can't get away, and the men who's family's are being torn apart by this insanity.

I believe Polygamy happened for a reason and things changed over time to take care of their needs. Abusing their own kids and marrying underage girls is totally wrong and I'm against certain unjust practices that divide true family life. Better happier family when we have one wife and one husband with all beautiful children under one roof.

Its legal in 2/3of the world. So why did they stop . BECAUSE THE U.S. GOVERMENT TOLD THEM THEY CANT BECOME A STATE UNLESS THEY PROMISED TO GIVE UP PLURAL MARRIAGE! They stopped and UTAH was immediately accepted into STATEHOOD. I learned this fact in 4th grade studying the constitution and statehood. Im in Indiana and didn't grow up a mormon.

So called music is very bloody annoying. Makes it difficult for the people with hearing problems. Why do they do this? It spoils a good video and even bad ones. When I strike this problem, I close that video as it is a waste of my time to try to hear what is being said.

William Barlow- I read in a past post that you were all raised to read and study the Book Of Mormon. What about the Bible? The True and Living Word of God. I challenge you to read and Study the Bible. Pray first for the truth to be known, whatever that may be. Then read The Bible with an open mind and heart. And see what God does.

Section 132 of Doctrine and Covenants was produced by Brigham Young 5 years they came to the Salt Lake Valley, it was not signed or written by Joseph Smith or in his handwriting . I don't know if he did or didn't practice polygamy but, that's just a historical fact

According to the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints, Joseph Smith wrote Doctrine and Covenants 132 and he did practice polygamy. www.churchofjesuschrist.org/topics/plural-marriage-in-kirtland-and-nauvoo?lang=eng www.churchofjesuschrist.org/manual/doctrine-and-covenants-student-manual/section-132-marriage-an-eternal-covenant?lang=eng

more than one wife if not the only sin: people marry the wife of their brother or young kids against their will : leviticus 18 rejects all kinds of abuse: 6 None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD. 7 The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. 8 The nakedness of thy father’s wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father’s nakedness. 9 The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover. 10 The nakedness of thy son’s daughter, or of thy daughter’s daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness. 11 The nakedness of thy father’s wife’s daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. 12 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father’s sister: she is thy father’s near kinswoman. 13 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother’s sister: for she is thy mother’s near kinswoman. 14 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father’s brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she is thine aunt. 15 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: she is thy son’s wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. 16 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother’s wife: it is thy brother’s nakedness. 17 Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son’s daughter, or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness. 18 Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time. 19 Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness. 20 Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour’s wife, to defile thyself with her. 21 And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. 22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. 23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. 24 Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: 25 And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants. 26 Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you: 27 (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;) 28 That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you. 29 For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people. 30 Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God.

As for the variances in the tomb accounts, if you read them, they're not in conflict. Each provides a different set of details. One mentions one woman going, one mentions two, the other mentions three. The account of three doesn't discredit the account of one or vice versa. Same with the one vs. two angels. The details don't conflict with one another. The same cannot be said, for example, of the multiple variations of the account of Joseph Smith's first vision.

**** I really don't have a problem with polygamy itself. If all people involved are adults making a choice for themselves with no outside forces of coercion, then I believe people should be allowed to live how they want to live. What I have a problem with is the cult-like aspects of these groups and the underage girls, or women in general, being forced into marriages they don't want.

Yes, I know what you mean, Sozou. Reminds me of a time back in the late 70's when a couple of Moonies came to our door. We invited them in for a cup of tea and some biscuits. They were both awfully young, maybe in their late teens. They tried to convince my wife and I that their ship was something that we should jump onto. The boy came back several times, perhaps because we were friendly and inviting, who knows? From what I've learned about the Moonies subsequently, he must have been under a lot of pressure to perform. Maybe it was nice for him to be able to sit down and relax for awhile. ... Dave

Jehovahs Witnesses don't come to my door anymore. They go to every house on my side of the street til they get to mine......then they cross to the other side. I always invited them in.....I always politely pointed out the reasons I could not agree with them............I don't think they like it when you do that.
