The nearest metro station of the U3 is Baumwall; from Rödingsmarkt it is about 15 minutes to walk as well as from St. Pauli Landungsbrücken. Baumwall is the station between these two.

That elevator is significantly faster than I remember; the older one used to be much slower. At one of the intermediate floors, you could actually see the counterweight, which was placed to the side of the tower, quite a distance away from the shaft. The cab shape was very similar, and the old elevator also had a circular sliding inner door, although I doubt that was original from 1909. If I remember correctly, the buttons were of an older style (perhaps 80s or 90s), but clearly not original. Also, the cab was a lot darker.

Nice!! I also didnt expect the previous elevator to be the original one from 1909... its just the first elevator which has been built back then. Do you have got pictures of the old elevator?

Sadly, no. The last time I was there was before I really started taking photos or videos of elevators.

yes, I really like that display. This elevator is more interesting than you might expect the average tourist elevator to be - modern high-rise informative display, cylindric cab, but on the other hand it has got old-fashioned swing doors. I was very impressed.

That indicator is pretty nice! It's one of the more fancy dispay's I've seen. Did you film this today? The display indicates the current date in top-left corner.

kinda stupid the lock off floors that are accessible by stairs why dont they either let them be accessed from elevator or remove the doors on those floors

I think they locked them off due to limited capacity. Keep in mind this is a frequently visited tourist destination and there is only this single elevator. I went early in the cold morning to get an empty cab for a better video, but often people have to queue for the elevator. Now if they choose different floors to get off and others called the elevator, it would take ages to get all the waiting visitors done. The intermediate floors are just there for service purpose (e.g. to store something). I would also not raise accessibility of the tower to unlock these floors because there are stairs to climb anyways (the elevator begins on the first floor after 52 steps)

The doors may be used in the event of an emergency. I wouldn't wanna be the janitor hand winding the lift all the way to the top/bottom. Also staff might wanna access floors 2-8 for some maintenance occasionally.
