Yes, Kevin. The highlights on the leaves at the end were the complete touch that made the trees look finished and set in to the painting. Absolutely beautiful! I am an acrylic artist and I enjoy watching you enjoy using this medium. I learn new things from you when I watch you paint. Thank you for sharing this experience.

Love this one! Depth of color is awesome. The background framed by the shadowy foreground pulls your eye into the beautiful falls. The mid-tone low lights on the foreground is so right.

This painting you made a kind of close up, with that natural elements the trunk, waterfall, some bright lights. So, is one of your best paintings since then. Is quite exquisite painting. I like that !

I must say that it started out a mess but Wow what a beautiful painting in the end. Yes it needed the mid tone at the end. When you were just scribbling in those tiny places with lots of different color really made it come to life. Mine would have looked like a scribbled mess! Great job. Glad that you knew where you were going from the beginning! Lol Happy Day!

I watched you paint for a while before I subscribed and I'm definitely glad I subscribed. You keep getting better man. I did see a Bob Ross episode where he said "I hope your never satisfied. Because, if you get to a point where your are completely satisfied with your painting you might decide to stop painting. And I hope that never happens." But I agree with you too. It's defiantly, definitely ok to be happy with it. Thanks for sharing.

There are a lot of solutions to extend acrylic paint. I feel like there is a "gap" in knowledge between the mid to late 90's and today... once upon a time there was a huge painting community who was extremely active that went "extinct", and suddenly there has been a resurgence. I often see current artists struggling with things that were already solved, so look to the past. Unfortunately many of the resources simply don't exist anymore (they were pre-digital age) but some are still out there (and I'm seeing quite a few being put online just in the past few months which is awesome).. if you are interested in acrylic in particular check out the Decorative and Tole painters.. while the style may be different the techniques and tools are valuable. Back to acrylic paint extension..the first idea is to extend the paint itself via mediums and additives (called extenders, retarders, or blenders).. from simply adding a small amount of glycerin to your water (typically five parts water to one part glycerin) to professional products designed to do the same thing in a multitude of formats. Just constantly wetting with water isn't the greatest solution, they are water soluble so water actually breaks them down which can negatively affect both the pigment and stability.. you want to add a humectant or acrylic matrix instead. The second is creative palettes... these range from DIY solutions to again, professional premade options. The Masterson Stay Wet Palette is one that I recall specifically, but simply google "stay wet palette" for many options. Many of these allow you to save your paint during use and also while you are away from your painting. I also highly suggest checking out techniques such as glazing and brush loading (double, side, etc) which make your life so much easier by allowing you to "blend" in ways that you simply can't otherwise.

Kevin...in regards to your midtone highlight on the dark tree at the end. I don't think it per say needed it but I do think it was needed for balance because you have so much color on the other side. Good choice! Beautiful painting!

Előre is köszönöm a válaszod!

I've lost my motivation for painting... I've let my art become what people wanted not what I love. I went from this Kevin Hill, rub it in and paint the next layer style to a Michael James Smith like layer by layer overly detailed style but kept my old color pallett so it's not even realistic... I hate it(both styles look good respect to every artist) it didn't feel like me...
@irizjuh13214 жыл бұрын
That feeling sucks, mate.. maybe you're too afraid to make bad paintings on the learning journey and thus follow the ways other painters paint. It's really a difficult process. What are you missing? It sounds like you are quite well-connected to the feeling that you know something is not right, not aligned with your natural self/style. Don't give up! It takes a while to explore what works best for you. Maybe take a break and come back to it later if you've obsessed over it too much. Then ask yourself; 'Why do you started to paint in the first place?' That motivation is much more interesting and will provide you with a compass on how to continue on navigating the painting journey. It's okay you feel discouraged! It's your own journey after all. No one has to tell you how to feel and how fast you should go. You'll figure it out. There's no finish line, y'know. It's a lifelong journey; there will always be something to learn! 😊 Patience and reconnect your own inner artist!
