btw with Mawile I used to use SD/3 elementals cause you just kill everything: fire fang goobs Ferro expecting Play Rough/thunder/Ice (51-61, ), Ice Punch does 42 to Lando at -1, TPunch does 46-55 to Pex in terrain. Just guess right and everything dies

very slow and lots of matches go on for a while due to regen with boots

It’s also a pretty “solved” meta compared to gen 7 and 9 with Z-moves and Tera, respectively. Gimmicks like fling torn aside, it’s kinda hard to consistently innovate and it doesn’t feel like creativity is as rewarded as it is in those gens, imo.

Offense is super potent in this tier (weavile, dragapult, urshifu) so we need fat stuff to offset it (heatran, melmetal, buzzwole, slowbro, pex) and the fat stuff just ends up making more consistent team structures. With heavy duty boots, games become more like RBY matches if mons like snorlax and zapdos had regenerator in gen 1. I really like Gen 8 personally, but I do definitely see issue in a Mon like weavile being able to pivot in for free to goob the shamone joint because it’s wearing a pair of timbs.
