i honestly do expect a very similar gameplay and mechanics in Light No Fire like we have in No Man's Sky. There will be a main storyline you can follow to learn how the game works and helps you gathering resources, improving your skills and building your home. All across the planet there will be points of interest and short tasks to complete to get rewards and upgrades. You can get different horses and dragons to call your own and maybe hire some NPCs to farm resources. A bunch of mysteries burried in ancient ruins and caves could be solved to gather special items and maybe discover the origin of this planet, which is tied to the main storyline and lore. From what i saw in the trailer and how Hello Games describes this game, it will focus on multiplayer gameplay. This is my biggest concern, since multiplayer in No Man's Sky simply does not work well and i wonder how they can pull that off with thousands of people on one planet. NMS in fact has thousands of people in the same universe, but only up to 32 in one session. So i would not expect having much more players being in one session at the same time, but rather have a couple of players in a group like we have in NMS. Exploration will most likely be one major task to do. Discovering special regions, unique bioms, climb the highest mountain and discover the deepest sea, which is exactly what is written in the description. I doubt there will be cities or even castles with tons of NPCs / unique characters and stories. Everything is procedurally generated, so those NPCs and their type will be spread all over the planet and basically be the same with maybe some variations depending on their location. Those are things that i think are realistic to expect and the bare minimum what i hope will be included in the game. But I do hope for more depth and unique things to discover and make use of the size of the planet. This is one issue i have with No Man's Sky. There is no real point to travel to distant empty galaxies for instance, because there's nothing there you won't find in any other galaxy. Harsh and dangerous planets won't give you any reward to go down and explore, since there is nothing there which is worth it. Despite having said all of this, i really enjoy NMS and play it every day. I am really not sure how far Hello Games is in their development stage. The trailer does not show very much in terms of gameplay. It's possible that they have managed to develop the basic procedural generation of the planet and gameplay mechanics, but haven't done much yet in terms of story, missions, rewards, innevtory system etc. If you look at the 1st No Man's Sky trailer back in 2013 this looked as complete as the Light No Fire trailer today. Only 12 developers are working on this new game. Nevertheless, Hello Games knows what they're doing and they have a lot of experience for those type of games. So i doubt that Sean Murray will make the same mistake again and show people something that does not represent the actual game. Light No Fire has been in development for five years now and at some point they need to make money with it. I am pretty sure that this announcement, ten years after No Man's Sky, was already scheduled years ago and the goal was to show something that looks as complete as possible and get the hype going. You can definitely say, that they've succeeded in this.

Really hoping for a farming system / fishing system so I can open up a shop and sell various food / potions to traveling adventurers. Or just an auction house. I don’t know if NMS has something similar but would definitely be something I would love to have in the game.

I would LOVE to be able to run a little bakery or restaurant where I can use the resources I’ve grown/gathered like wheat and berries and sell things like bread and jam to others. It would be an interesting take, allowing players to build little villages with “working” shops. It would give a meaning and a purpose to seek out settlements and/or other players. Could be interesting if, say fighting a certain boss drops specific materials needed to make a certain shield, and maybe a wandering player hasn’t been able to find or fight the boss, but they have money, and they’d like to buy that shield. Since each player will have a different experience, this would allow the players to SHARE the “fruits” of their own experiences in a way

I hope LNF and NMS eventually at Chatgpt style AI controlled NPCs who know the lore of the game and are aware of local activities to where they are, including player activity like bases and such. NPC's you can converse with and learn valuable information from. It would make the world feel much more alive.

They said you can play in either multi, or single. I like that. I also hope they incorporate the many ways you can customize the various difficulty levels as in NMS. Personally, I prefer just exploration.. and that's how I only play in NMS [Creative mode]. There will be a story-line. I like that [in NMS] you can choose to play the story or not.. I did play some stories to gain perks in NMS.. I am not into 1st. person shooters at all.. so I imagine HG will allow whatever mode you care to play in.. Considering how huge the world will be, it will be a blast just to hop on your mount [dragon, bird, etc] and set out to find new lands and build a home and more.

I'm hoping they add the ability to build roads or pathways, and share tpu discovered map with other playea via a map bench or table of sorts, also I agree with the combat and dungeon systems, but otherwise, knowing what hello comes can do, we should keep in mind also that during development of no man's sky they hired writers, so that could play a much bigger role in light no fire.

One more thing: in game modding tools. For example, the ability to create user-generated storylines / landmarks / quests with in-game customized NPCs, that can trigger for other players passing by. I know that can also make for a lot of unfinished waste, but there's got to be a way to do it so that the good ones stand out and unfinished ones don't make the world ugly. Perhaps unfinished things that have been abandoned by the creator for too long can get weathered and overrun / reclaimed by nature over time, but if the owner starts back up working on them again, then the ruins revert to their original state.

The biggest needs for me are decent enough combat, doesn’t need to be incredible just a satisfying array of melee attacks, magic and archery, nice long semi-difficult dungeons you can do with your friends, some really huge caverns would be nice for that to, and NPC villages I can regularly call into and claim contracts at from interesting characters. The biggest fantasy want is huge sailing ships you can hold plenty of animals aboard with heavily incentivised travel between continents and time spent at sea

This would be a neat idea a certain amount of keys are dropped at a whirlbox that appears hopefully you can have your team with you so everybody can get a key these certain keys are 4 certain dungeons..... The cool part about that is you can end up doing a 6 man team that are just from random people who can end up becoming your best friends or you can literally go in with a team that you put together prior All of these random bosses that appear are all different levels depending on the level of the dungeon so on and so forth what do you think

I kinda hope flying is mid-game content or something. NMS gives you a ship straight away because there's only so much you can do on one planet and back when it released, you really couldn't do anything but fly around. LNF looks like it has a lot more going for it on release and you should be able to explore the whole map on foot, but getting a flying creature could be a whole quest you complete to make having the creature so much special and also to open up a whole new gameplay loop. And as much as I love your second point of a specific biome being on one specific part on the map.. for some reason I can't shake the idea that every single biome will be randomly sprinkled around the whole globe. As in, there's no point to leave a continent if it has the same exact biomes and content as the other side of the world. I hope I'm wrong, that'll actually be mindblowing.

I don't expect there to be unique POI. Maybe one larger player hub area like the space anomaly but nothing more. But it would be cool if they added some handcrafted unique locations far far away from any player spawning point that are very hard to discover. Procedural villages/towns are a possibility of course but I'm not sure we will get that. As you said, procedural dungeons like the derelict freighters are a must I think. The derelicts might have been a test for dungeons in Light no fire.

I very much hope that there's large cities you can find in the world, somewhere to pick up quests and learn about lore and such. Maybe have them act like the Space Stations in NMS with the rep venders, quest givers, upgrade npcs, teleporters, etc. One of the things I don't like about NMS is that lack of cities in it that aren't player made. Sure there's an odd settlement here and there, but nothing that really makes the universe feel alive.

Open world bosses and events which are terrain/geography specific. Meaningful side quests; i.e. not simply a quest to accomplish a goal that gives you what you need - rather, quests that give you a chance to aid NPCs in a meaningful manner 9not simply fedex quests). The ability to upgrade equipment so that it levels with you. Nothing worse than finding a great piece of gear, only to outlevel it a day or two later. It wouldn't need to be a necessity to upgrade, you could still replace things, just the having the option to upgrade and keep something you like that stats on or for the aesthetics. Caravans: either player operated or NPC operated that allow for a faster means of travel between major settlements.

I would kind of like the ultimate objective being something like discovering why the planet has no life form (at least on first blush) more advanced than the rabbit folk. Something that's a years long journey, with seasons of battles as some of the hibernating hazards that destroyed the civilization that was able to make floating light houses, are discovered and accidentally awakened. Libraries (or even urns with scrolls in them, are discovered with fragments of the old history, some of which also have what initially appear to be hero level superpower abilities to the finder, or team of finders. The knowledge discovered is only retained if it is shared with others, both within your team, and outside of it. A side effect of that is that as the knowledge you discover and share is passed on, the supper power abilities granted to the finder lose their effect, down to about a 1% boost, perhaps in something the player never did in the first place. If you are killed before you or your team can pass the knowledge on to others, the knowledge becomes 'lost' again and has to be found again if the final goal is to be reached. Along the way you also learn skills that can be taught, and develop tools that can be copied. Note that I'm saying this as a 'big picture thought. I'm not sure how it can be achieved, but I'd kind of like to see challenges in the base gameplay that can not be completed by a solo player. Not all challenges are dependent on combat, just as there are weekend missions in NMS to build bases, most of which we never use again, allow players to make cairns, alters, temples, libraries of discoveries accomplished, as part of the mission for the set. Also the mission may involve different teams working on different parts of the world to accomplish both the event goals and objectives, as well as objectives for the game as a whole. Finally I'd kind of like to see the ability to participate without being in the game itself. Web portals for the above that have embedded wiki's and discussion boards (preferably that get moderated) related to the discoveries found, and let people do sort of a mind map of tying together the disparate pieces of information together as part of the analysis of the world. All of this while others who are just in it for the latest update can explore, build, participate in epic battles or great hunts. Perhaps be the hero in some one person quests, and so on. I have no direct influence on Hello Games, so all of that is off the cuff, and may not be related to anything that HG does with LNF. I'm probably going to be OK with that too.
@daxxaxx588210 ай бұрын
I'd like a indepth crafting system like blacksmithing skill, to give you a wider selection of what you can use and customize. Like a higher blacksmithing skill can let you have a wider selection on blades/ handles and accents on weapons and armor. Maybe make its stats based on what material was used and your overall crafting or blacksmithing skill. That's the one gripe I have w valheim, your forced to wear that biomes specific set w/ maybe 2 options to choose from. I'd like the dungeon idea to play into that as well, like each dungeon is themed to certain creatures or ore/mats you can get from them to use for gear types. And an actual use for keeping animals would be great, the animals have really no use on no man's sky other than as a hobby sadly. Maybe breeding certain animals with stats to get better traits from, or to buy/sell to npcs and make a profit from them or their products. Breeding wyvern or ground mounts sounds kinda cool. Or even using them to fight with, some little attack animals to train and level up that'd follow you around and help in combat would be great. Idk, there isn't really much as far as mechanics shown in the trailer, like leveling or combat. I saw weapons, and I just saw alot of flying, lol

One thing I really hope they do is not make the mistake NMS did of having every single square inch of every planet covered in rocks, foliage, or both. Yes, there will be people that say "oh wow X% of the game is just empty hello games lied" but I think they really need to have things like wide open oceans and vast deserts and grassy plains that stretch to the horizon. They are excellent environmental hazards that require preparation to cross and create more interesting travel choices (taking a shortcut through vs going around). I have seen a few small clearings and lakes in the trailers, but nothing like a massive mostly treeless grassland or a real ocean/desert. With what they have said about stuff like mountain size, I am really hoping they add actual open areas and oceans. They don't need to be as big as the biggest real ones either. even the Mediterranean is big enough you can't see the coasts all the time, and there are plenty of small deserts and grasslands that stretch to the horizon without taking up more than a fraction of a percent of the earth's total surface area. Also I really hope they have realistic biome temperatures, like taigas and tundra near the poles and rainforests near the equator. I know they want everyone to get to experience as much of the game as possible, but having them all scattered around haphazardly at random makes them less special and can lead to a lot of jank. I think this could also work really well with the "center of the galaxy" improvement. If you had the poles be the main objective then players could start at the equator and gradually make their way from lush rainforests to harsh tundras and snowfields. It would also be a really interesting early game choice whether to go north or south. Also this is a complete random tangent unrelated to anything else but I really hope they have diablo style randomized loot. It would be PERFECT for this kind of game and I will be incredibly disappointed if they do not include randomized loot.

A real option for PvP. A real great multi-player server. These things are what I want in LNF AND NMS
@elinisguy10 ай бұрын
They won't be able to make humanoid NMS PvP good given the game design and controls, however it would be great to add good spaceship PvP :). The reason why NMS doesn't try to take money for Multiplayer is that it uses Peer-to-Peer. Which makes sure that they don't spend 1000s$ month only to have servers up. I think LNF will have same multiplayer, because it doesn't says that it will be MMO (despite Sean kinda saying it) and if they want to make it server based multiplayer they will have to ensure continues supply of income to pay for servers, which means Subscription or one of the worst inventions of 21st century micro-transactions.
@WilliamJ.Hoyle77710 ай бұрын
Just do dedicated player rented servers then. Like DayZ. Create real modding tools like Bethesda does with their games. With modding tools we can finally get 6DoF in the flight model as well as real flight stick axis support. THEN I would be interested in Ship PvP in that NMS. I really hope ypu are wrong about LNF. Sean playing word games is what got him into trouble with NMS. I understand P2P isnt optimal for PvP. Could you imagine having your own seed of NMS on a private mod-able dedicated server? MAN that would be great. @@elinisguy

They need to create systems that allow players to create their own fun. Player guilds/clans, quality multiplayer, dungeons, loot chase, stores, shops, farming, fishing, hunting, crafting, building, jobs, transportation, etc. Story content gets played, conquered, and then you are left with nothing to do. The above items let people role play and create a "game withing a game" and that is the secret. Minecraft is the perfect example.

My views: Point one: "People have no imagination, they have no ability to set their own goals. Solution: give them a goal to beat, as fast as they can, so they can stop playing - yay! They beat the game. Speed runs anyone?" - Question: Why? Does an open world NEED an end game? Point two: "Give them points of interests! Who's interests? Interests of importance to Me of course" (tongue in cheek, everyone who reads that statement will be the Me, figure out who's Me gets the priority). - I'm not saying its a bad idea, however, thought has to be put into it - also, remember, "Hidden Treasures" will be posted on KZbin within seconds of the discovery. Speed run through Points of Interests anyone? - Personally, I believe there should be natural visitas to discover, AMAZING natural sites, and any constructed points of interest? Why not make that a thing the players need to do? Point three: Basically a rehash of Point two, really. Point four: Seems finding something to do has to be handed to us, otherwise we'll sit and twiddle our thumbs due to not having imagination to do things for ourselves, or shock of all shocks, interact with friends and/or any others that are around. - My bet is that there will be a heightened demand for combat, with a touch of combat, throw in a war or two... with combat, and a touch of martial activity - again, semi tongue in cheek Point five: Meaningful multiplayer - NOW you're talking. An observation I've found in many MMOs I've played - there are rarely any situations I've been invited to, where almost everyone on the server weren't grinding away to be maxed out in EVERYTHING, then on top of this, hording of items in storage that is often as big, if not bigger than where people live... and never really used efficiently - this might be one of the reasons for resource shortage. - I can only imagine the outrage if Hello Games should follow RL situations, where resources ARE limited, and DO take time to replenish (trees, things to hunt etc), recover from pollution, or are gone forever (iron, coal, copper etc). One point you haven't mentioned - there is not a single huge MMO in existence, where it didn't have either: fast travel methods... or the community going into meltdown, because they can't travel to all points in the world, within seconds. Time investment is an issue too, and a vast majority wish to see everything... NOW! (Slightly tongue in cheek). Personally, I believe I'll either be a lone wolf nomad/explorer, or part of a group of friends who set up a community as a central point to develop and explore from. A fun option (perhaps) would to be a wandering specialist of some sort (or a community of specialists), who provides some obscure service to groups they meet - to be honest, the options are pretty vast (especially if I consider more shady options to role play).

In general, the player needs to not be restricted by the story. In No Man's Sky, you have to follow the story far enough to get basic items, and that was a pain when you just wanted to jump in and play a new game like in Minecraft. I feel like the story needs to be closer to the new Zelda games, where you don't even have to do the story to win if you don't want to, it's just a good thing to have if you do want it. For multiplayer, let friends share EVERYTHING unrestricted. Not being able to do so in NMS killed so much of the fun.

Thank you very much! If I had the time to do consistent uploads I might have blown up over the years lol. No Man's Sky was in development for 5 years before release, and Light No Fire has been in dev for over 4. So my speculation is that it'll be a 2024 or 2025 game

One thing no mans sky didnt do that i would love to see, I want to see better water physics that allow for compelling rivers, waterfalls and crashing waves during a storm for the bigger bodies of water.

I agree with you. NMS was fun at first but I got sick and tired of collecting things just so I could craft something so I could do even more collecting. It's like playing Farming Simulator where the only reason to farm is to get more farming equipment so you can do more farming. The game has to have a large variety of unique things to see and explore, I don't want to travel long distances just to see the same buildings with the same activities. I want cities like Starfield has, but hundreds of them, dungeons, things that are scary, beautiful scenery, treasure to seek and find etc.

On the subject of addictiveness lets think back to 04-05 and the launch of a little game called World of Warcraft. Lets do that, short the 40 man raids.

in my opinion NMS biggist problem is scale vs limitation etleast in the asset department what i mean is the common complaint that after roughtly 20 planets you have basicly seen all the assets everything after that are rescales and recolors at best what bothers me is that for the scale of NMS it only is about 35gb big so they could etleast bumb up the asset libery by 5-10 time the same problem would still ecure after 100-200 planets but with the attention span poeple have nower days they would forget what their first planet looked like after 50th or so 2 problem terrain generaiton but form the looks of the trailer they seem to got that coverd in LNF everything in NMS was unnaturally smooth 3. the compettion well theres no game exaclty like NMS but if you look at Elite Dangerous they do to whole space stick better their system has an actuall sun all planets orbit the sun all system can have anything between 1-20~ planets with up to something 60 moons Satisfactory dos the whole factory mining stuff a lot better well that comparison isnt quite fair but NMS could have done a little more on that side and lastly the base building basicly any survival game dos it better in NMS you got 1 storage solution 1 the big safes you go the refinery for crafting atleast you got some option when it comes to decoration

I'm not expecting Light No Fire to really be multiplayer. The trailers for No Man's Sky also showed other players, but like you say, no real reason for it and mostly you you don't see or interact with other players. You made some other good points. I like that you compared it to Minecraft, because my expectation is that it really is just a better version of Minecraft. So maybe we will see dungeons. BTW, modders could add dungeons and possible some of the other things you mention. I created a few mods for Minecraft that created what were essentially dungeons. Not really all that hard in Minecraft, so I would think it could be added to Light No Fire by a modder too. And yes, modders watch videos like this and might take one of your ideas and make them into a mod. Who knows, maybe I'll get back into modding and write a few for the game myself :)

I want cities and the like. I want meaningful "stuff." Weapons, armor, magic items, things that matter. Additionally, I want a mobile base. Say, a large cart that I can take from place to place. Or a magical item that lets me warp home _and back_ without too much hassle. I could care less about multiplayer. To me, it needs a strong, single-player experience. If I play multiplayer, I only play co-op, I _never_ play PvP. If I'm playing PvP, I'll go boot up a shooter or something, but, that's not what I play 99.9% of the time. If it's going to have supported co-op, then we need niches and niche-protection, welcome to the TTRPG problem.

they need to add a rpg type character building system. they might already have it and I hope they do but I think that will go a long way to that game play loop. keep people coming back when they can find cool items that increase their stats kinda the approch they take with MMO's IMO.

Loot in NMS just doesn't interest me. Why do a dungeon when the end reward may be a rare crafting material. The whole "crafting material" end loot system we see nowadays (especially will Bethesda) needs to die. If I'm playing Light No Fire, I want to fight a boss and clear a dungeon and get a cool reward. Maybe a unique sword (or whatever weapons they have) or a cool unique armor or clothing piece... I think of Elden Ring which wasn't exactly a huge open world, but every inch of its map was packed with a piece of lore or something that will draw you to it. What could be better is building... Hello Games could really innovate the industry with a new way of crafting player homes and such without boring resource gathering we see in every game since Minecraft. IDK what that alternative solution is, but the whole resource/crafting thing games do nowadays feels like a boring chore more than anything else.

I completely disagree about the goal, specifically due to the size of the world. Landmarks I can agree to. Dungeons could ruin this game just as easy as make it better. If you cannot terraform then building will be rough and likely be the end of it for me.

They need to change the flight mechanics to copy the Griffon from GW2. Otherwise I will not be playing. They have changed nothing about flight, it is the same mechanics from NMS and NMS flight is the absolute worst I have ever seen. NMS flight is the only thing stopping me from playing it.

i really hope it feels different than no man sky no matter how many updates it gets its one of the most empty and boring games i ever played and ironic that the exploration part of no man sky is the worst part of the game lol so i really hope they try to make a different game and not just no man sky in fantasy setting
