Honestly, this volume sent me into a massive depression. I felt the helplessness of the erra and the never ending nature of war, endlessly burning every ounce of willpower until you are all burned up.

Having read the books myself, I find Mary's rage at Tonya kind of unwarranted. I mean, what kind of life has she had up to that point and what kind of life would a 12 year old girl have to have lived to be in that position. Not to mention Tonya could have found the gun on the ground. While Tonya is by no means a 'good' person, I feel Mary is just empty.

I think thats kind of the point actually. At least thats how I aways liked to read it. Mary could be using tonya as an outlet for the grief she felt after her fathers death. I dont think Mary had fully processed the death and at first voluntered as a way to cope. But after she saw Tonya with the gun, you have to keep in mind that tonya is to Mary one of the main faces of the war, basicaly THE horror story of the war. So mary probably considers her evil because propaganda. So yeah put *unhesolved grief* + *monster of the rein fame* divided by *Thats my dads gun* = *She killed my dad*

A shame the release schedule for this book has been in shambles even before the pandemic hit... :/ Oh well, at least we'll get Bookworm earlier. While Bookworm's printed releases also get more and more delayed with each volume, at least the e-books seem to have a steady release schedule.

I would like to say that. Her being scary to her own soldiers who know who she is and what she’s done and have propaganda dumped on them. She’s the literal devil come to fight for the empire. If you are a random Russian farmer and you see a little girl walk in and you don’t know who she is… yeah that’s just a kid to you.
