Light Rock Fishing - Swanage Pier

When this video popped up I immediately thought of Baillon's Wrasse, There's an internet blogger who targets multiple species called 'Something fishy going on' & I remember reading about his efforts to snag a Baillon's Wrasse from Swanage Pier a while ago. Well done for achieving your intended aim & for another species packed vid. Why on earth people would watch this & give it a thumbs down is beyond me!!

I absolutely love this video. I spend about 5-6 weeks a year in Swanage and have spent hours fishing from the pier. Just love it there.

Just returned from swanage. Used your video as my fishing research. I fished a drilled bullet rig at 1st (too heavy) then freelined ragworn (too light) so added some swan shot and found a happy medium. Got Mainly pollack in the middle and corkring (i think) if i fished outside the pier close to the pilings. Nothing huge but great fun and they all went back. Pier was quiet at first but then saw some pier rage. (Canoeists, pier jumpers and scuba divers triggering an angry fisherman) great morning. Thanks for the tips.

Great video, I spent an hour on Sunday evening on the far left of Beer beach freelining with ragworm as the tide was coming in. A fish on every cast, all wrasse. I was totally surprised by the amount of fish that were there, did not want to leave and cannot wait to go back. Fantastic. Keep the videos coming.

Another great film for us mate, keep up the good work, like I always say its not about the size , its about what we catch, to many sea anglers give up because they spend all day with big baits expecting big fish,you guys are showing the young ones whats out there for a good days fishing, its about the catch not the size !!

@DevonLerfer We're you using braid mainline? I've got some 2.5g jigheads, do you think a lighter jig would be best?

@@Smiffy830 yeah was using a 0.4pe braid mainline with fluoro leader. 2.5g jighead will probably be suitable in some situations, I chopped and changed a bit depending on what lure I was using and what I was after, a lot of my target species had pretty small mouths so found a cheb or split shot rig more useful for a lot of them 👍

@DevonLerfer yeah, sounds good that, I've got some braid, but the fisheries I use don't allow it, only use it on canal for pike & perch. I just bought some micro jigheads about 1.5g, I'll add a few number 6 shot if it's a bit light. Nice 1, thanks for getting back to me. Tight lines🐟🪱🎣👍

Great videos. They have inspired me to give LRF ago. Any advice on lures and plastics to start me of would be much appreciated. I live on the Co Down coast in Northern Ireland. I don’t see any one down here LRFing.

Hey mate, that's so good to hear my videos have inspired you to give LRF a go! The first lure I think everyone starts with is isome, it's a scented lure and pretty much everything will go for it! Gulp Sandworm or Angleworm is also similar and very effective. Also worth looking at soft plastics 2" and under on jigheads 3g and under, there are a huge variety of little paddle tails and straights out there, stick to stuff with a slim profile that will suit a hook sizes no bigger than a 6 ideally, I tend to use 8's and 10's for my jighead fishing. Metal casting jigs are also an enjoyable way to fish and particularly good for picking up the pelagic predators, if you look at jigs from 3 to 7g you should be in the right range for LRF. I'd also recommend getting some quality braid if you can, it really does make a big difference 👍

@@lewisthelureangler thanks mate, i was gutted but it could've been worse as it broke when i fell and almost went head first down a big hole! What sort of fishing do you think you'll be doing mostly? If you're looking for something for metals and cast and retrieve type stuff I'd go for something tubular tipped (like my Truzer), or if you're going to be slowly working soft plastics along the bottom and fishing in close I'd go for a solid tip (like the Ajist). I had a play with a Savage gear rod and didn't get on with it either!

Mi waters are extremely under pressure so I went ultralight and to my surprise the big fish hit the tiny lures like there's no tomorrow i have to fight a 15 pounds snook on a kuying Teton 662 light and 6 pounds braided line it was the fight of my life never have so much fun
