I like watching Allistair, Isaac and Kurtis because they do not indulge in re-ra bullshit and lengthy repetitive "introductions". They just show the problem, briefly explain the plan of attack then straight into it. Allistair, your present fix-it was similar to Isaac's latest poser, a seriously broken 'banana'!

Great result too bad the no shots/video of large mill making milling/drilling for what normally be line boring look easy, if you have a large enough mill and can position the broken part correctly it's a routine piece/segment of the entire repair process. Nice fabrication of replacement boom segment new piece looks to be much more robust and better made than OEM. Ray

That's an interesting failure, it's a "peel" failure, the location of the brackets compared to the sides causes the pull from the ram stress to peel the welds apart which caused the failure of the Derbyshire ship.i believe

Can you explain the copper rod more please?
@catabaticanabatic38002 жыл бұрын
You can run the weld out onto it thus ensuring good continuity of weld thickness and a better termination. The deposited metal will not weld to the copper, the copper will fall away when the clamps are removed.

Beautiful welds! I'm jealous. I'm going to assume that the (looks like a) huge, long crack on the side plate from top to middle wasn't a crack. Since you didn't gouge it out and weld it up.

Another awesome repair! You and the company you work for do incredible work. I can't get enough of your videos. I have a question. When I was watching the first cut, I immediately thought: "He's cutting it there because that's where the bent plate stops. He will drop it down where it belongs and re-weld it there." When you completed the cut, it almost fell into place. So I was very surprised when everything was replaced. It just seemed like way over-kill. I realize that you probably don't make all the decisions on how something is repaired, but I was just wondering why. I'm sure I'm missing something. Thanks
@allistairc1232 жыл бұрын
The little bit at the bottom of the lugs were bent where plate was cut and the plate had a delamination cracking before it broke to the plate had to be changed anyway so instead of trying to straighten bent lugs and have to reweld them to new plate was just as easy as make new ones saved cutting them off cleaning them up straightening them. Definitely could have saved them if didnt have the options but it was one or the other
