As a beginner I often kite in 9-12 kt where I live and as one of the simple tricks is to start is first move your kite to opposite direction. For e.g from 12h to 10h and then dive from 10h to 16-17h so the kite will run through more power zone and pretty much will always provide enough wind, or just instantly do a down loop while starting down wind and then change direction to upwind. But the trick you showed today is amazing and really would save me from crashing the kite in the past. Thank you, Damien!

What Is Islam? Islam is not just another religion. It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham. Islam literally means ‘submission to God’ and it teaches us to have a direct relationship with God. It reminds us that since God created us, no one should be worshipped except God alone. It also teaches that God is nothing like a human being or like anything that we can imagine. The concept of God is summarized in the Quran as: { “Say, He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He does not give birth, nor was He born, and there is nothing like Him.”} (Quran 112:1-4) Becoming a Muslim is not turning your back to Jesus. Rather it’s going back to the original teachings of Jesus and obeying him

Excellent tips! Couple more I've used: 1. If launching on the beach and it starts to fall - run upwind to create apparent wind and get the kite flying. 2. In the water point the board more downwind on the water start. 3. With foils on land, I've pulled the two center lines at the same time with one hand repeatedly, and it will jelly fish upwards. 4. Concentrate on making corrections early when the kite gets out of position before it gets to late to do anything. Thanks Damien!

I downloop a lot in lightwind transitions, but not so much in 'game over' situations. It was usually not really game over for me as i learned grabbing the front lines as high as possible and pulling in hard would usually shoot my kite back up to 12. This saves the kite from going in the drink which was my main priority, but after watching your video I will definitely be thinking of downlooping in these situations in the future. The loop also saves the kite and maybe generates controlled power i can work with to continue on right away... Thanks.

I had to come backand watch this again. I was out yesterday and the winds were SUPPOSED to be 14 mph but dying down. It started to mist and sprinkle and I just couldn't keep it in the air. What I wonder now that I wish was mentioned was, does the kite generate more power as you get up and moving? Do you have to really knife your board in and cut up wind? I would think you'd have to or it'd just drop if you tried going down wind much.
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 2 жыл бұрын
@@lovetofly32 Yes James you have to put tension against the kite in light winds by edging yep100%, to have the kite cycle back up if not it will fall out of the sky if you go too down wind. There just will not be any power. There is nothing easy about light winds! :)

Yesterday I was debating... everyone else was on a foil. I had a feeling I might not get up, but my goal, if only body dragging, was to avoid getting my kite wet :-). Mission accomplished! I did get up, but only for a few seconds (repeatedly). I didn't drop the kite. Later, a more experienced guy was able to get going no problem. Although there was slightly more wind then, I think his secret was more about getting up speed going downwind first... OR, keeping the kite deeper in the window? I'll have to try the downloop sometime. Oh, my other goal; practice self-landing. I did that - and got the mechanics of it better.

Damien as always your videos are over the top so clear I do have one question I noticed you were pulling the bar in when you were doing the kite loop I was trained to keep the bar out so it isn’t as powerful but I suppose you’re doing this because the winds are so light and you need additional power?
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 2 жыл бұрын
Paul, You might have received bad information. They are correct when you push the bar out you get less power but the kite will not turn. You pull in all the way always on a kite loop when it comes around you sheet out to loose the power but the loop came around or you will get worked!.... :) I hope that helps clear it up.

Good tips for most riders. :) stay consistent with either white or black side on the left ;) last part of body dragging on the beach should include: „don’t do this at home“ 😜 so you would use a drifter 12m instead of switchblade 12m? Most people have a sb 12 and then a contra 15 or 17 ;)

Obviously the kiteloop has it's benefits for boosting and such, but I have also seen it used in light winds as an alternative to the downloop for example in a waterstart. An explanation of how and why you'd employ a kiteloop versus a downloop in that type of situation would be awesome!

@@heathluke69 Honestly its exactly like the down loop. All depends on what side the kite is on in the wind window and what direction you are looking to go! Its just like this video but loop it down or back in the opposite direction if needed. Thanks for the video. I have 12m and 9m Drifters. Which one do you think will fly in lower wind? I can usually water start on either one on the foil, in around 10 knots but struggle to keep the kite flying in less than that.
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 3 жыл бұрын
I would rock your 12m Drifter, its fast and light in the sky! Perfect for super light wind foiling. It will have a hair more low end for you than the 9m... Work on the downloop and you will be riding the whole time! :)

great vid. thank you. For heavier riders.... 190+, is it mostly the same but a matter of increasing board surface area and larger kite?
@DamienLeroyYouTube

A bigger board size will help a ton! A larger kite helps but also gets hard to steer in such light winds and its a little heavy so does not fly as easy!

@@DamienLeroyKZbin thank you. Makes perfect sense and was what we used to do on a sailboat during races with super light winds and using smaller sails that were more efficient as far as retaining the proper foil shape versus the lighter super big sales that would just flop around more. Excellent downloop demo! If you can fly your kite and keep it up on air with very light wind and small TT, how to then manage to move upwind? (As with « on shore » wind/ beach). I always struggled to do it properly on poor windy days with max size kites, even with extensions...🥴and would appreciate your advices on it!😎
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 3 жыл бұрын
Nicolas, It takes time to get efficient to get going up wind but I would recommend a bigger board if you do not have one? On big kites in light winds it will make it a lot easier as you will get more leverage into the wind on a kite that pulls so hard. boards like the Stylus or the master door with Spleen.

Damien, I well understand your kite size point, and indeed I often use a Tiki of 2.10m length. 😎 My very question is with any board or kite which was acceptable but minimum to ride upwind with the wind at your starting point, what to do to come back to your upwind starting point if wind collapses significantly , or big tide current reduces the usable wind??? 🧐 At this point you can only play with your gear, its setting, your board... What is the more efficient technique to still move upwind : Try to move the kite very quickly or very slowly, or with small figures of eight between 11 and 12 or large figures between 9:30 and 12 , or move as less as possible at what kite position or anything else???. Edge hardly or only a little, pull the bar, manage with small push and pull during figures of eight... more or less trim, compared to normal adjustment ...sliding tack or jibe with downloop...🤓 I am often lost and eventually pushed to long walk of shame🥴

My beginner status isn't that long ago, I actually never found longer lines easier for learning. Personally I found more reactive and direct a lot easier. Yes you have more time but you need to 'predict' the reaction since it's slower. I still prefer lines up to max 24m, however with some more experience now longer lines are usable for me. While I had lessons I had one or two light wind days, found it really hard and frustrating at first but at the end I learned a lot about flying the kite. I was lucky it was knee deep water, so no swimming 😋

Hey Damo, I need your expertise again :) I now have three Switchblades 2021 (7,9,12) and I want to buy a lightwind board. What size for the Stylus Board would you recommend? I am 1,80 m and 75 kg. Is there a big difference between the 2021 vs. 2022 version? Best regards and thank you so much for helping me. Philipp

Happy to help no difference worth having to buy 2022. I would go with 150 for the ultimate ease and fun for your size. If you are purely looking for the best in light wind 160cm. 150 can be a little more fun, my thoughts.... 160cm will be a hair better in lighter winds more surface area..... Have the best day!

Friend, You can loop a kite back or forward in light winds but usually when you need it is when the kite is falling down so you want to keep the fall going and generate speed with the kite then loop it back into the power window..... Hope that makes sense....

As i know as your a pro cabrinha rider,m y question was :did ever give a go to those pryde kites? I am looking for something similar to my old evos and canot.find any infos on these pryde kites despite the fact that they are 3 struts built !! I m looking for a kite with good lift and low end abilities. Can someone provide a perspective on kite loops and the steering lines slack? If on the less powered knot, more slack steering lines, slower loop turn, slower loop, more power? Shorter steering lines, quicker loop? I got contra 1s
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 5 ай бұрын
Yes if you are depowered and your lines are more slack the loop will be slower, could potentially put it into a more power zone do to not turning as fast. Everything can be adjusted depending on how you set it on the kite depowered or powered, with your depower bar adjustment right before you loop. Helps even out the line tension.

@@DamienLeroyKZbin thanks for reply. I assume it's the same concept with bar pressure? Less bar pressure slower turn. More pressure more response and faster turn.

When you were demonstrating the foil water start at the end of the video it looked as if you were intentionally stopping the kite downlooping twice just to stick to the beginners' lesson. It looked as if twice downloop would have get you going immediately in those super lightwind conditions. Were you?
@DamienLeroyYouTube
@DamienLeroyYouTube 3 жыл бұрын
If it real light and you have to keep looping it sure! Most of the time a down loop will do it but if its very light I may go into another if it was not quite enough to keep power in the kite at all times.... Yep.......
