In three years, I went from having absolutely no experience in 3D Animation to working at DreamWorks Animation Studios teaching just about all of the 3D software used to make movies! After 2 years there, I left to try freelance / independent content creation on KZbin for awhile, before I head back to Feature Film!
This is my journey- the entire process from when I decided I wanted to be an animator until I eventually get there, and everything along the way that will make it possible.

Great Review! Your critique definitely hit the issues I had with LightBox. As my first industry con, the cut off lines and lack of animator specific panels was discouraging. Panels I DID get into were super informative though! The dealers room had great laidback energy which was great for meeting new people! Hopefully, I'll be able to go to CTN someday and compare the two for myself!

Thanks for the great video, Wade, it was really informative and I appreciate the candor. We're definitely doing more to make the panels easier to attend, including "capping" or having end-of-line signage as you mention, and we will be putting all the videos we can up on KZbin soon as well. Thanks for the great review! I love that you are supporting both events and staying out of a lot of the drama of it. I've been to CTN several times, but hadn't been able to go to Lightbox. This was valuable for me to understand some of the pros and cons of each. The only thing that I can comment on is the websites that each convention has. I really loved how well organized and easy to navigate the Lightbox website was. CTN, while also a great event, has a website that is tricky to understand. Hope I'll be able to attend Lightbox in the future and see for myself how the two compare. Your video was very helpful for me!

Thank you for making this video. I've been looking for something like this since the event happened and I wanted to see people's take on it, what happened, and the overall impression that it left with the attendees. Unfortunately, I couldn't go this year due to a prior obligation but I'm very glad to see that it was successful. I hope to go next year though and join in on all the fun.

Great review! I've never been to an animation expo so I ended up doing research on which animation convention was geared towards 3D Animation. After doing research months prior to the LightBox Event, I noticed that as you stated, LightBox is geared more towards 2D Animators and CTN caters to 2D/3D which is why I ended up purchasing the 4-Day Passport for CTN. Crazy how I was born and raised in the heart of LA and never been to one of these events. Looking forward being there and networking!

its funny bobby has been talking about lightbox before it came out, and i literally thought it has been a convention going on for years lol. im glad it did well. thats yet another good thing for artists happening within the last few years. now we just need someone to do anatomy for artist using reilly method or loomis and we will be good. there wont be an excuse for artists after this, everything will be accessible. good job bobby chiu!

Nice. Great video. I agree with everything you said and I feel like the portfolio review process was very confusing. I know there was different kind of portfolio reviews going on but the ones on the show floor were almost a free for all. Besides that it was great.
