We should not put so many expectations on her. I see people making comments how bummed they were when they didn't see her vlog Saturday. Teaching is stressful. Her body, Billy, and her students are her top priority. KZbin and TPT should not be her number 1 priority. We don't want her burning herself out trying to please us. Seriously girl we all can wait. You come first. Teaching is your passion and it is who you are. If you are not at your best health, you can't be at your best for your kids.

In my board we often use traffic lights to help students self regulate their volume. Green means they are at an appropriate volume level. Yellow is a visual cue that if the teacher switches to it they are starting to cusp on being too loud. The students then need to start to get quieter and once they do the teacher will move them back to green. Red means things are far too loud and they need to now work silently until the teacher moves them back to yellow and hopefully finally green. As a fellow teacher, love watching your weekly vlogs on the weekend!

I've seen teachers use traffic light symbols as a way to let the kids know what voice levels they should have. Red is for silent. Yellow is for whisper, and green is for loud. I would think green would only be used in maybe group settings where they are working as a team.

Aaron Woodward I'm a French vanilla lover too!! Dumb question but I don't like straight up black coffee. I do love the Starbucks vanilla frappuico drinks that you can get at gas stations, I also love French vanilla cappucinos from wherever and then vanilla cafe frappe at actual Starbucks. Is a French vanilla latte the same as a cappucino? Im just scared to buy something and hate it bc money problems.. Do you know of any drinks I could get at Starbucks/dunkin that are similar to vanilla frappe in hot or cold form or cappucinos??

I agree with the clean font that you mentioned. It's also important that the font is modelling correct letter formation - for example some cutesy fonts are a mix of lower and upper case letters or has letters with tails standing on the line.

Hey Michelle, it seems like this new school (and district) are a good fit for you. That is amazing because it can feel like you are swimming upstream when you are not in a space that suits your energy and creativity. You seem so happy and it looks like you are staying on top of everything. I think being departmentalized helps too. Trying to plan for ALL subject areas in primary grades these days has become more challenging because it seems as if schools are moving away from integrated units. Hopefully eventually there will be a happy medium and teachers will be able to catch our collective breath. Hope this school year continues to go well.

Hi, I am Tom. I am also an Elementary school teacher. I worked in third grade for several years. This past year I was in 4th grade as well. I am not new at being thrown a curveball but change stresses me out. I have been watching your videos since last summer. I love it. It's therapy. I sometimes feel that I am losing my mind. Thank God I am not alone. I start my school day at 7:00 AM, so I usually wake up at 5:15-5:30 AM. Teachers here begin work in August 1st. Students usually arrive the week after. It doesn't happen every year. Some years, you receive them the same week you come back to work. The beginning of the school year is always a crazy time. I completely understand what you go through. I always want my classroom to look awesome, dynamic, comfortable and clean so it takes me a very long time to get it fully ready. I hope I get enough time for it this year. I am also an insomniac. I have to force myself to bed sometimes. I totally get it. But yeah, something to work on. Hahahaha! However, I love it. I love my life. Teaching is not a job, it's a life. I feel its where I am meant to be. Wow, everyone here is a teacher. This is interesting. It's nice to meet you all !

Michelle - If you love using Google Drive, you should also look into using Google Classroom. It's a great way to have students answer exit tickets on a Google form (if your class has access to a chromebook every day). It's also a great platform to use for the notes like Google Drive but students can also check it when they are absent and do the work. I used it in my middle school classes last year and thought it was FANTASTIC! Great video this week. I can't wait for the next one. :)

Thanks so much for the video! You are right about the first few weeks. I always just tell myself over and over to get through week six and then things always seem better. I am going to play around with using powerpoints to put everything in one place for my group. I have a very fast paced group this year and I am wanting to be able to get to things more quickly, so that could be a great option. Just a note; when I have done units on flowers in the past, my local florists and nurseries have been great about giving me leftovers and things that they are not going to sell to use in my classroom. This is especially nice when we are doing work where I want lots of plants or flowers. They usually don't give me whole plants, but I can get lots of flowers and leaves that are leftover from arrangements.

My junior year of high school, I was taught math that way (without the skits and drawings though) and it actually helped me a lot. I had never been good at math, but something about this approach just made a lot more sense to me. I also gained a lot more confidence, because I could figure out a lot of skills on my own/with a small group. I think it's great that your county is starting off with these techniques at a young age.

Hang in there! I have moved schools and grade levels too (KINDERGARTEN ahhh) and I teach fitness classes after work hours. It's a really challenging balance but just give it time. Give yourself grace and if KZbin videos don't go up when you want, then that is okay! ❤️

I really enjoyed the video, Michelle! Last Sunday I had one of those moments where I was typing but had no clue what errors I was making until I put it on the screen Monday! I hope this week you get some real rest!

I teach K-5 music and it’s great because each grade level has a different color set of books so I’ve color coded all of my plans and classroom materials to match the grade level colors. It keeps me on track so well.

I completely feel you on wanting to be productive, but there is a LOT of research about how our productivity actually increases when you chill out a bit and are not a workaholic. I think you are fantastic. You are a wonderful teacher and your students are lucky to have you. I hope you don't end up burned out. Teaching is hard enough. Enjoy yourself, enjoy your students, don't stress out so much, and stop putting in so many extra hours. You'll still be a fantastic teacher and your students will do great. Putting in so many extra hours can actually make you LESS productive and effective, not to mention stressed and burned out. We need people like you to stay in the profession!!

Thanks for another great vlog. I so look forward to them. Mine, however, was kind of fuzzy and not clear. Maybe it was my phone. Thanks for all the time you put into making these great.
