@@LoveMTB hello friend, i want to give you an info, im using that cassete for a bit of time and there is something that you have to pay atention. Those little bolts that secure the alloy 52t chainring get lose some times, in reality before you use it the first time you need to tight them with a torx t8 socket. If not you will notice that the cassete creak like if the bike is broken.mine starts at 80km of use only. Now i have about 1000km and never come lose again but pay attention to it. Works well with a shimano groupset but not as good comparing to a shimano cassette. You lose the hyperglide+ and the closer jumps in the upper part of it. Regards

Thank you for showing the difference between the cassette running on 52mm (SRAM) Boost vs 55mm Shimano (Boost) chainlines with regard to the backpedal issue! I was happy to see that the backpedaling issue was not a problem on the 55mm chainline as that is what I will be running on the 2022 Tallboy I am building up this winter and Shimano XT 55mm Boost cranks.

OF NOTE - the Sram 52 cog is pinned, the Garbaruk is bolted. so buying a replacement 52 aluminum might be an option. For the that spend much of their rides in the 52, on SRAM you know it wears out obviously much faster than the Dome does made out of tool steel. THAT IS A BIG DEAL by Garbaruk. UPDATE: From their product manager, its replaceable, $50 USD plus shipping .

@@LoveMTB Muc-off Hydrodynamic. It's a big world in bikes these days. There's lots of opinions and stuff to try. Personally, I think it's the user who is responsible for being hard on components. Ebikes (especially in Boost mode) tend to expose a riders lack of foresight and anticipation to what's coming up on the trail. The rider is surprised by a sudden climb or turn, grabs a handful of gears to adjust, and the motor (especially when in boost) will straight up eat components without remorse. In Eco and Trail modes, the motor is much more forgiving.

@@ferranox Actually all independent testing shows that Shimano 12sp outperforms SRAM 12sp Eagle chains by 3-6 watts. They are about 40% less durable (e.g. 3000km instead of 5000km on a SRAM Eagle under extreme condition testing) however XT chains are almost half the price of an X01 chain so that evens out. That and Shimano has HG+ which shifts better under load vs. SRAM Eagle. There's a reason why Ceramic Speed don't do their race ready UFO chains for Eagle chains, because they're so slow (but do on Shimano and other manufacturers like YBN and KMC).
@ferranox
@ferranox 10 ай бұрын
@@lenolenoleno sorry man, have no idea what are you talking about. 5 watts will matter only if you're in a group of say 5 strongest racers in some race. as for the prices - german online shops sell X01 hollowpin chains for 46EUR and m8100 chains for 38EUR. X01 10-50 Cassette can be found for less than 300EUR and it lives more than three M8100 cassettes easily and is lighter. while I can't feel 5 watts I can definitely feel weight difference, especially in the air. and yes, I had M8100 cassette and chain in stock on my bike and was not overhelmed with shifting quality- better only by a slight margin.

Picked this cassette for my XC race bike to replace the XTR. I didn't like the feel of the Shimano shifting. This cassette doesn't shift as well as the X01 on my Enduro bike, but we'll enough that I prefer it over the XTR. I replaced the XTR group set and put on AXS and prefer that even more. I prefer the full mechanical X01 group set on my enduro/trail bike. But the Garbaruk and AXS system works great for me for racing (I ride primarily enduro). But this does it (with the HG 11-50 version). Beautifully made and works. (In my case I also used their cage extender). On top of that, I placed the order on Thursday night in California expecting to see it in a week or two. I had it Monday night! Thanks for posting, I didn't realize this was a Polish company. People might not realize it but Poland actually has an incredible amount of world leading precision machining capability. I'll have to check this product out. I'm currently building up a Salsa Blackthorn and looking to shave as much weight as possible. The cassette looks like it's extremely well made. Be curious how it shifts compared to a Shimano XT. Since you mentioned them, I have been using an 11 speed XD Driver eThirteen 9-46 TRS cassette on my 2016 Salsa XO-1 Bucksaw since the bike was new. The weight savings is amazing. I had to replace the steel bottom half of the cassette at maybe 10000 miles (no joke) with regular chain replacements. Bike currently has about 15000 miles on it and I'm still running the original aluminum large half of the cluster. My only real complaint is they don't shift like Shimano XT and with a SRAM XX1 hollow pin chain they are super noisy at the smaller diameter end of the cluster. Now to be fair, a SRAM XO-1 drivetrain doesn't shift like Shimano XT either.
@dtj9923
@dtj9923 Жыл бұрын
@@LoveMTB I can't say the eThirteen ever shifted great and the shifting definitely degrades, it's also super picky about chains. I still have one new spare steel cluster in the toolbox but I'm considering other options for the Bucksaw this year. How do the new eThirteen cassettes shift and hold up?

It's almost as if famous brands can ask for a higher price because... well people can get them anywhere and are going to pay. They have huge factories and it probably doesn't cost them much to produce these parts, yet they still ask for high prices. Because they can. That might change though if people start buying cheaper brand parts and shimano etc see profit going down the drain. I would love to give this brand a try. But i just bought a shimano one because i had never heard of this brand. Ease of access makes a difference too. Shim and sram everywhere and in all shops. Garba, online and with waiting time i bet. Doesn't shift as well off the bat vs. SRAM/Sunrace alternatives but gets quieter and shifts better after it has bedded in (about 2-300km in). Great cassette as an 11-52 is a better gravel cassette than 10-52 (tighter jumps in tbe first 5 cogs vs. 9 or 10t cassettes (like SRAM, e13 etc) where you'd actually notice a cadence difference). For Shimano MTB I wouldn't bother with this casssette. The HG+ just isn't comparable to the shifing under load on a Shimano cassette. For the sake of the few grams, I'd rather the XT/XTR.
@lenolenoleno
@lenolenoleno Жыл бұрын
@@LoveMTB A friend has the HG+ version. It shifts great (similar to full 12sp SRAM but a shade clunkier). Just doesn't have that same under-load brilliance of full Shimano HG+. Great option if you prioritize weight over outright performance. Me personally I'd rather an XT cassette for 120grams penalty + 120 EUR cheaper + better performance.

6:55 keep in mind that chainring offset, and the chainring size, bb drop, and chainstay length, all play a role in how good the chain retention is, smaller the chainring more it wraps around, thus being more secure. So higher the BB, bigger the chainring is worse it gets. Always use a non boost chainring if the frame has the clearance. Mine does. I tried with boost chainring, the chain could drop randomly if you smashed the rear wheel just right rode just right amount of roots. When back pedalled then chain could drop even at slow backpedalling.
@mtbboy1993
@mtbboy1993 Жыл бұрын
@@LoveMTB My Large G1 has 453 mm, and bottom bracket is super low at -32 mm BB drop, but it's 50T cassette, boost reduces performance, shifting will be fine, but slightly less smooth, but the drop when back pedalling is also an issue, But the chain will scratch the cassette up just after one ride I noticed it. I tested both chainring types, I strongly advice against using a boost chainring if the frame allows 6mm offset/non-boost to be used, the 3mm/boost is something I would only use on a fat bike or a bike with super short and wide chain stays. So the 3mm offset difference makes a huge difference.
@mtbboy1993
@mtbboy1993 Жыл бұрын
@@LoveMTB Shorter the chain stay more the chain wraps around the cog. So if everything else is the same spec wise the shorter chain stay should make the chain stay on better. The chain will be at a steeper angle with shorter chain stay and flatter with longer. But bottom bracket drop plays a role here. is that different on the bikes you tested? a high BB will make this happen easier, than low BB, mine is super low at -32 mm BB drop. But the bike sags when I am on it, so that lowers it a bit more. I think the issue is the high BB and boost chain ring. Yeti does not provide a proper geometry chart, no BB drop number. i wish all provided a proper geo chart like Nicolai does.
@mtbboy1993
@mtbboy1993 Жыл бұрын
@@LoveMTB Shorter chain stay also means the chain wraps around the chainring less, so that combined with boost chain ring, means the chain is at an sideways angle, while not being as secure on the chainring, and short chain stay means it's also steeper angle, so it's sideways upwards movement, and wants to derail, just like shown in the video. I guess if you could fit a 3mm offset chain ring it could reduce the issue.

I just built up my Tallboy V4 (2022) frame with a Shimano XT drivetrain which includes a 10-52 Garbaruk cassette. I am very used to how the Shimano XT 10-51 cassette performs from many years of riding. Going to Garbaruk I noticed immediately that the shift ramps were very different and especially noticeable on the 4 larger cogs. Also, the cog spacing on those 4 larger cogs is different, making those cogs a bit harder to pedal than the Shimano XT cogs. On paper the cog spacing seems minor, but many years of muscle memory on the XT does not translate well to the Garbaruk in my opinion. The shifts seem more delayed and I had a few situations where shifting hung up going into granny at the worst possible moment. Garburuk spacing: 10-12-14-16-18-21-24-28-32-37-44-52 Shimano XT & XTR spacing: 10-12-14-16-18-21-24-28-33-39-45-51. I am now going to switch cassettes to XTR with XTR chain but keep derailleur as XT. My cranks are RF Turbine with their Shimano specific direct mount SHI-12 chainring. What do you think?

The value on these is amazing. Dropping 100-300g off your back wheel is a bit like switching to carbon wheels. I hate the ratios on the microspline, (MS). I have no need for 52t. it is just a marketing stunt. I have an XD 10-48 and a MS 10-52, and I wish they made the 10-48 in MS, as the ratios on that are more to my liking. (some of my hubs have no XD driver available, and I vastly prefer both HG and MS interface to XD.) Other than that minor fuss, I am enjoying my Garbaruk parts. (I also have a couple of their direct mount chainrings and the beautiful but ridiculous 26t singlespeed cog.)

That looks great! I wonder why the SRAM 52T sprocket is built so much stronger than the Garbaruk cog. On the SRAM it looks great, but they could probably save a lot of weight and material there. The small interface area on the Garbaruk seems a bit worrying. A long-term test inspecting the wear on the hub would be interesting.

Agreed- I'm a bigger guy, and when there's an option, I have to run a steel freehub body to cut down on the cassette "cutting in" to the body.... With only two points of contact, it makes me curious how it would look after a few months of Clydesdale use...
@EricPeelMusic
@EricPeelMusic 10 ай бұрын
Its actually stronger than any single cog of a Shimano cassette because the load of any cog is distributed to two points of contact instead of one. So both points of contact experience half the force of a lone cog of a Shimano cassette. And even though those points of contact experience the force for an overall longer amount of time, the amount of force applied is a lot more important than the amount of time the force is applied when it comes to pulsatory force such that a cassette experiences.

I had one of these on a XD driver with a GX derailleur on my full suspension bike. I mangled the largest gear on a climb on my second ride with it - maybe operator error, but this never happened to me before. I swapped it out for a X01 cassette, which has been flawless for many rides now. Garbaruk sent me a replacement large gear. @@LoveMTB The rest of the cassette is machined from a single block of aluminum. The largest gear is separate and screws on to the main body with very small screws. Garbaruk sent me a new one fairly quickly and I broke that one fairly quickly as well. The largest cog taco’d and broke several of the largest cogs as well. I’m very easy on my bikes, I’m not a super strong abusive rider, but something was definitely wrong. I even bought their chainring with the second cassette, which has slightly better alignment when in the largest cog. I’m not sure if they had metal supplier issues after moving to Poland or what. I went back to my SRAM cassette and it has been trouble free for several years now. I hope they got these figured out, as they are a pretty legit company.

At 11 speed shimano dura ace, ultegra, xt, and xtr (at least the last four sprockets) are the same. The difference its just the spider and how they are group, that's how they achieve different weights, and of course the middle sprockets from xtr are from titanium. My point is that's why shimano uses stack cassettes and not one piece at least till 11 speed. I have no idea how the 12 speeds are between road and mtb(i think something similar). Now the price shimano and sram are extremely expensive even the cheaper ones. One more thing i manage to mix a sram NX 11 speed with a shimano xt 11 speed cassete. The five small sprockets are shimano and the next six are sram. It works just fine and i have a shimano 12 speed chain with a sram quick link. Thx for the review very good and informative as usual.
