This Lighthouse was decommissioned in 1988 and obtained by the National Trust. This means that basically nothing was ripped out and automated so the Lighthouse inside is like the Keepers from 1988 have just stepped outside. It should be on your place to visit as the National Trust have done a great job in preserving this Lighthouse time capsule for all to see.

Great video and content. So pleased they fired up the fog horn, bet the sound waves being a lower frequency type pummeled your body!

@@PeterHalil The Commissioners for Irish lights claimed that fog horns were imprecise and expensive, hint the final ones were electric. I saw one of your comments about new Trinity. I wish to know about new Trinity

@@oscarosullivan4513 I really don't know about new trinity, I've been outside for over 20 plus years. I was just saying that when I was in and doing these videos, I talked to people there that knew me. Nowadays, I don't know them and they don't know me , so everything is harder to try to organise.

Boy this is pure childhood nostalgia, from the bottom of my street in Whitley Bay, in 1982 from north to south you could see: Blyth pier head light St Mary's Island Tyne pier head light And the mysterious Red light of Souter. Only Tyne pier head light still visible with original optic I believe.

The foghorns here are the exact same models as those at Bull Point, so they would most likely sound the same too. The Roker Pier Lighthouse was recently restored and opened up to the public.

They may look similar on the outside, but the size of the piston and air pressure is what gave the sound its uniqueness.

Now that must be the coolest sounding foghorn ever, that would make your fillings fall out !!! .... Where those other lights manned permanently, where there living quarters or where the keepers housed ashore ? Where they run by Trinity or the port ?
@PeterHalil
@PeterHalil 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, much appreciated. Those other Lights were just to wet your appetites for all the local harbour lights in the areas that I visit, if I had time to record them. As far as I know, they were not trinity House but run by the Ports or Councils, so no idea if they were ever manned, but I doubt it but not sure, cheers.

@@PeterHalil Regarding North Shields Pier Head light, there is a small disused cottage that I understand was used by keepers. This could do with being renovated and rented out though it is close to the road that takes you to the Spanish Battery and the Tynemouth sailing and canoe clubs. The pier itself features a tunnel to the tower , and long disused public loos in two locations along its length. I also presumed Acetelene gas power originally working the south shields light and the same or parafin working the north light before they were electrified. An interesting first few years re the north pier. Great Vid & Stay Safe !
