If the lantern is in good repair and has no issues these are the two most common ways to light one. This doesn't include low pressure lighting. I'll be covering that in a separate video.

Legend has it, that little flame is still burning in the collar of lantern number 3 on the shelf to this day.

@@kweverythingshop5335 Just funnin. It's not like that's never happened to me. I've had a few "birthday candles" pop up. No big deal. They run out of fuel eventually. haha!

First time I lit my SMP I got a nice fireball. Thankfully decades of using my 275 I did not trip out about it. LOL

Interested info... Low pressure is what I have read on the mil-spec Lantern for all makes. The supply tubes would be thinner-smaller diameter for lower pressure I would assume... Technically from a engineering perspective this makes sense.

They are not designed as low pressure lanterns. People got that stuck in their heads because they don’t understand how they work. They are easier to light on low pressure for those who aren’t that familiar with them. I’ve never use that method. Full pressure, light it correctly and it works just fine.

I used milspecs for real on active duty for years. They sucked. Loud, finicky, no integrated tip cleaner, almost always a fireball involved in lighting them, half the time you'd blow holes in the mantle. Over time you mostly figure it out, but still, as you showed here, there is no sure fire way to come close to what you can with an instant lighting Coleman, which had been around long before these were made. My system was to follow the label on the side. It worked about as well as anything. HAHA!

Coleman or SMP?
@mikemorgan5015
@mikemorgan5015 3 ай бұрын
@@gilbertopadilla3611 Several different ones, mostly SMP and Armstrong. The fit and finish on the SMPs was rough, but functionally, they were all about the same. I litterally cut myself more than once on SMP lantterns and stoves. I guess deburring wasn't spelled out well enough in the contract spec. haha! I WILL add that they performed a bit better after I quit using MOGAS and started carrying a couple gallons of my own Coleman fuel on FTXs. In Germany, I also went to the Esso station and filled my jerry cans with low octane unleaded(bleifrei) that performed about as well as Coleman.

I happen to love them. But I never used them in the service. I can light these as easily as anyone can light a regular lantern.

@@kweverythingshop5335 Lighting them is the easy part. Putting out the burning tent extension on the command post is the hard part. Haha! There is sentimental value to these, and they have some GREAT features. The storage well, great. The quad glass, love it. But if you're claiming that these light up just as well as a standard instant lighting lantern, well, that must be your nostalgic heart talking, not your eyes or brain. From a tactical standpoint, I was so glad to see them go away. The M1950 stove? Different story. Loved it. They went away before the lanterns did, but started popping up on Ebay and surplus stores cheap soon after. I have maybe as many of them as you do lanterns. Well may not quite as many. I am often caught popping popcorn over a 536 on top of your stove. The wife shakes her head. She doesn't get it. I get it, military stuff is cool. Gasoline lanterns are cool. It's a 2fer1. IMO, they should have used the tried and true design with a quick change generator. Most of the issues I had would not have been issues at all. I'm sure it's not as simple as I make it sound, bureaucracy of military procurement and all. Any way congrats if you read this far. Thanks for you patience. Have a super week and be safe.

Just found your channel - I have a few (too many) lanterns I bought over the years and now that I'm retired I'm starting to go thru them - I'm half way decent with regular coleman repair but have not even attempted the 3 military lanterns I have - so I look forward to going thru your videos - thank you ps - where do you get good generators - how long will they work -are they repairable - just some thoughts for other videos - thanks again
