The Laowa 85mm macro lens is a great small and lightweight lens but it can be difficult to light your subject. In this video, I'll show you some examples of how you can light your subjects when using this small lens.

Nice one Steward as you say what ever works for you is fine. When using the Laowa 2.5-5x (handheld) I haven't found anything better then a couple of Pringles tubes fashioned together on the flash. You have probably more then likely tried the Pringles tube in the past! Maybe worth a revisit especially using 2.5-5x

Yes I have, in fact a Pringles tube was my first diffuser.

Hello Stewart. I watched this video and was wondering if you considered this. Instead of gluing a hot shoe to a $70 receiver that could come off and damage your flash, use one of the other receivers. for $10 less you can get the the older godox x2T triggers that has the shoe on it. You were complaining in your review of the Godox M12 you had to spend $70 on a trigger. You can get a Flashpoint R2 Single Pin Transceiver for 1/3rd the price. I does not have the nice display but $20 dollars it will trigger the lights ttl and it has a shoe on it. Which you can use the same hot shoe adapter you use for your YN24EX for reach. This lowers the initial cost of the M12. Just a thought if you haven't thought of it.

I use the canon M50 with the laowa 65mm and the Meike 320, and craftybells, its a very light setup, but the Godox flash with cold shoe glued to trigger is a great idea which i will be getting and using now. The battery life appears to be so much better.

Thank you for spreading your ideas :) I wanted to ask you if there is a possibility to mount a Pope Shield Magnetic Diffuser with a Magnetic Ring from popeshield? thanks.

At least this one has lens threads. Getting really frustrated by the lack of them on the 25mm. I've resorted to just holding the flash in front of the lens. LOL! I plan to get the 85mm when it gets on Amazon and I also plan to get the MF 12 eventually so good to know they work together.

very good the videos of the channel I have a doubt how to connect the fladh to the tigger
@StewartWoodArt
@StewartWoodArt 2 жыл бұрын
You need to make sure both the flash and trigger are on the same channel. Check the manual for instructions.

@@StewartWoodArt question was how do you put the flash trigger on top so it stays up and with that inclination

It slides into the hot shoe like that.

I curious what setting on the flash and trigger are needed for a Manual lens? I purchased the Laowa 90mm 2X lens and some Godox MF12’s. My camera is a Canon R7. I can not seem to get my camera to trigger a flash with the manual Laowa lens on.

For the Laowa 85mm, do we need the small diameter lens or the large diameter lens bonnets from Crafty Bells please?

You should be ok with the small one.

Thank you Stewart for sharing another great macro set up - this one really is a nice small lightweight. I have a Sony A7iv and Sony 90mm lens. I sometimes use Rayon 250 as well. Do you think this set up would work in my case as well? Also, you mention that one light may not be sufficient enough. Till now I was planning to buy only one light - to be used like you have displayed in this video or the one you share in "My new everyday Macro setup" video. Is one light not sufficient? Thanks in advance.

Nice ! Like the last setup w/glued cold shoe. Great tip. But still the Meike MK-320 would be smaller, cheaper and it is a fantastic flash for single-flash illumination... Small linear bracket w/ a pair of cold shoes placed under the camera body would work nicely too probably (2 € in the hardware store)

This setup should also work well with my Laowa 65mm on my canon ef-m. At present I've just added additional cloth diffusers to the Godox flashes. It is difficult to source a bonnet type diffuse for such a small lens. Are you planning to act as an agent for Crafty Bell to the benefit of you both, so that individuals in the UK, like me could purchase one without the high shipping cost?

It should work well for the 65mm lens. I’m afraid I won’t be an agent for crafty bells, I just like using their diffuser.

As a Canon shooter are there any advantages other than size/weight using the Laowa 85mm compared to the Canon 100mm macro?
