Lightning Hit Collapse, 11-Story Building Simulation, Prime Trust Heights, Moulivakkam, Chennai

After heavy rain on Saturday, June 28, 2014, an eleven story under-construction building at Moulivakkam in the suburb of Chennai, Tamil Nadu collapsed, killing 61 people, mostly construction workers. We have been investigating this case by means of computer simulation to show side by side the differing outcomes of collapse simulations that represent the opposing theories. Our virtual collapse simulations are based on real physics and represent the reality to a high degree.

lightning heated the steel to 50,000 degrees, hence temporarily weakening it and heat expansion spalled the columns.

Simulation time can take several hours.

How long it takes depends on complexity, design and how accurate you want it. If you want a small house, smaller time to load, but if it were the twin towers, it would take very long to render/ build

Great simulation but the conclusion is stupid! Even if building was hit by a lightning and it felt right after that, it doesn't mean the lighting was the reason. Lightning can't be the reason. In this case, of a new building, it is no doubt the reason is a defect in architecture of incorrect construction. The buildings should withstand winds, rain, lighting and earthquakes. This one wasn't even fully loaded. If the second one wasn't demolished I can only say that people living there should be really afraid for their lives.
