I was stationed at VA-125 NAS Lemoore from Apr 70 to Sep 73. When I got there we were transitioning over from A4 to the A7 A/B. Got assigned trained as a plane captain but when you're E3 or below they can stick you anywhere. I was gonna get stuck mess cookin' but I heard about an assignment to Wheels Watch in Field Support. I went in early to meet the Division Officer bright and early before muster. I said, "Sir Airman Apprentice Freeman here. I'm to be your Wheels Watch. I've been briefed by Kilgore on the importance of the job and I want it." I was 19 years old and I just bowled over a Lt. JG, he signed the transfer and off I went, just in time to see the other guy coming in...but HE was the one assigned mess cookin' not me. What a great gig, one week nights, one week days, 3 day weekend twice a month. I loved it but then I made 3d Class AMH. Fucking VA-125 wanted me back. I worked in both Airframes and Line Troubleshooters. The A4s were gone. Just A7's. Went on deployments to Fallon NV and El Centro CA. Carrier Quals on CVN65, CVN63, Ticonderoga and Lexington (originally commanded by General Washington. :-) ) About once every 18 months I'd get a letter "Notification of Transfer" and I'd appeal on President Nixon's Phase One and Phase Two policies on spending cuts, "extension of duty" another 18 months. I ran down the clock at NAS Lemoore and got an Honorable Discharge in Sept. 1973. Skated thru the war. I salute those who gave more than I. That's the way it was.

I just can't believe it was 50 years ago today I arrived at Nas Lemoore California and assigned to VA 125 plane Captain School . Back then we had A 7B Corsair IIs seems like yesterday. Then got shipped to VA 155 aboard USS Oriskany off the coast of Vietnam. I see by this video that operations area hasn't changed much in 50 years. It still looks the same.

I was an AMH-2 as my last rank for 7 years and 9 months and I Loved the dirty job FIXING US Navy Aircraft as a 'metalsmith' as they coined them during my time in the US Navy = 1978 - 1985. The AMS, AMH, and AME ratings were 'DISTINCT ratings' at the time, BUT the AMS and the AMH were lumped into WC 120 so both ratings did EACH OTHERS' SPECIALTY.

Thank you so much for your valuable service to our country For your maintenance Of these complicated aircraft is greatly appreciated and the work you do is so beautifully done , Without you jet mechanics we wouldn't be able to have those planes Without you none of this is possible , Good aircraft mechanics are more important than anyone else in the field , if it doesn't work it can't be used , you are the best if the best and we appreciate all you do to keep these planes flying As for Lemoore California It's just an old cow pasture full of cow shit and some farmland in the middle of nowhere I don't understand why the navy didn't pick a nicer location mabey closer to the Pacific ocean But I do know they wanted something in a remote area where flying would not be near residential or commercial areas so they went to Lemoore California I think it's called Patterson Naval air station Nice video thanks

STINGER- Rear Missle Firing System The Target Acquisition and Designation Sights, Pilot Night Vision System is the combined sensor and targeting unit fitted to the Boeing AH-64 Apache helicopter. Both systems are independent, but housed together TADS contains stabilized electro-optical sensors, a laser rangefinder and laser target designator. The TADS assembly can rotate +/− 120 degrees in azimuth, +30/−80 degrees in elevation and can move independently of the PNVS. The movements of TADS can be 'slaved' to the head movements of the helicopter crew to point where they are looking. This allows images from TADS to be projected onto the crew helmet-mounted optical sights, overlaid upon their view of the cockpit and battle space. TADS contains a thermographic camera and a monochrome daylight television camera. With the improvements planned with M-TADS in the block III level AH-64D, the monochrome TV-camera is planned to be replaced with a full color camera. It also used to contain direct-view optics (DVO) which the copilot/gunner (CPG) could see through the Optical Relay Tube (ORT). But in recently fielded models of the AH-64D the ORT along with the DVO has been removed as it was rarely used. It has been replaced in the co-pilot's cockpit by a third Multi Purpose Display. Mounted above the TADS, the Pilot Night Vision System (PNVS) contains an infrared camera slaved to the head movements of the pilot. PNVS can rotate +/− 90 degrees in azimuth and +20/− 45 degrees in elevation. PNVS has a high rate of movement (120° per second) so as to accurately match the head movements of the pilot. The AN/AAQ-37 Electro-optical Distributed Aperture System (DAS) is the first of a new generation of sensor systems being fielded on the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter. DAS consists of six high-resolution infrared sensors mounted around the F-35's airframe in such a way as to provide unobstructed spherical (4π steradian) coverage and functions around the aircraft without any pilot input or aiming required.[1] The DAS provides three basic categories of functions in every direction simultaneously:[2] Missile detection and tracking (including launch point detection and countermeasure cueing)[3] Aircraft detection and tracking (situational awareness IRST and air-to-air weapons cueing) Imagery for cockpit displays and pilot night vision (imagery displayed onto the helmet mounted display) MAGNETIC RESISTANT 360 ROTATION SUPER LIGHT WEIGHT RAPID FIRING CANNON- In electromagnetism, the magnetic susceptibility (Latin: susceptibilis, "receptive"; denoted χ) is a measure of how much a material will become magnetized in an applied magnetic field. Mathematically, it is the ratio of magnetization M (magnetic moment per unit volume) to the applied magnetizing field intensity H. This allows a simple classification of most materials' response to an applied magnetic field into two categories: an alignment with the magnetic field, χ>0, called paramagnetism, or an alignment against the field, χ
