Light Painting Tutorial: How To Light Paint Wings
In this light painting photography tutorial Jason D. Page shows how to create wings using the feather plexiglass attachment from the Light Painting Brushes system. As you will see the new feather plexiglass light painting tool is also great for creating light writing and light graffiti, light orbs, abstract light painting and even beings made of light.

If you think these shots weren't edited, you are naive. Of course it's important to take a good image first, but the RAW file right of the camera is desaturated and generally not so impressive colourwise. If you take a JPEG it's already edited in camera so either you let you'r camera do the work, or you decide to do it yourself, so that you have more control over the final result. There is no right or wrong, but I also find myself editing more than actually taking photos (which is also realisic). I think that a good edit is especially important when it comes to light painting, even though I didn't do any light painting until now (but I edited long exposure photos in general, so I have some experience already).

this is really impressive and inspiring. One thing I have never been able to figure out is why is it that when you are behind the subject and flashing the light, you do not appear in the picture? are you editing yourself out in post?
@LightPaintingPhotography
@LightPaintingPhotography 5 жыл бұрын
Nope I am not editing myself out! The camera will only record what you allow it to see. Here are a few ways that you can stay invisible to the camera: If you wear all dark clothing and do not shine light onto yourself then you will not be illuminated enough to been recorded by the camera, also you should not stand in one place or in one position too long during the exposure. Look closely you notice I am wearing dark clothing, moving around, and being careful not to shine light onto myself. Hope that helps

HI..very nice....I have a question though...in my first few attempts the pic is ruined due to facial blur...how do you stop that?
@LightPaintingPhotography
@LightPaintingPhotography 6 жыл бұрын
Have your model stay as still as possible and the key to getting sharp focus in a long exposure is to only pass the light over your subjects face ONE single time. blur happens when you do multiple passes because even the best models move.

Dude, thank you for sharing this! So thankful I found you and your vids. Quick question, how does the color filter (for flashlight I'm assuming) and the lens hood have anything to do with you not showing up in the final photo? I've done many light painting pics and wore all black clothes and always end up with a few ghost-like shadows of myself I have to edit out.. Can you expand more on this please or do you have any tips or advice? Maybe the brightness/color of your light is why, compared to me using a sparkler, steel wool, and some other LED's, but I don't believe you when you say you don't show up in the final pic. :) Many thanks in advance!
@LightPaintingPhotography
@LightPaintingPhotography 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott! The hood doesn't really have much to do with "You" not showing up in the final image other than you won't get any light spill onto yourself as you are projecting light into the scene. The hood is to block the light source from begin recorded by the camera so you won't get the streaks of light you would without it. To make sure you don't show up in the final image its all a matter of finding the right combination of settings and making sure that you move a lot. If you are standing in a stationary position spinning steel wool then its going to be really difficult because you are not moving and the light from the steel wool is going to spill onto you. If you consistently move around and don't let light spill onto you then you should show up in your image.
