The Lynx Blue Line is a light rail line in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 19.3-mile (31.1 km) line runs from its northern terminus at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in University City through NoDa, Uptown, and South End then paralleling South Boulevard to its southern terminus just north of Interstate 485 at the Pineville city limits. That's exactly what we need here in Baltimore a low floor Light Rail for the wheel chair passengers and the blind.

For light rail it is the law for safety reasons since many light rail routes are not elevated or underground such as NYC subway or MARTA Atlanta rail

The Blue Line Trolley is nice.We are now getting modern Gold Line Streetcars in 2020 that look very similar to serve a crossing downtown street in Charlotte, i guess to replace the vintage ones currently running.

I don’t know when you choose to film, but it seems like your last video before the extension opened was on a pretty dead day, weekday rush hour, as well as Friday and Saturday nights are usually pretty packed, along with events (the extension debuted on St Patrick’s day weekend) also, this is only a very small section of the line, there are higher speed sections which would have been cool to see.

Just out of curiosity, why is it that the freight trains go at a faster speed through the city of Charlotte? Is there not a speed restriction like you'd see in other large cities like Richmond or Raleigh?

@@duanewillis2037 yes I am aware of that but I am talking about the speed of the trains going through the city limits. They seem to go fast through the Charlotte City Limits both the commuter rail and freight trains. They even go fast through Durham. Cities like Raleigh and Richmond the trains go slower, why is that?
@bleachingiants1
@bleachingiants1 5 жыл бұрын
Nobodys actually trying to answer your question, only trying to make you sound stupid for comparing it to smaller cities. So to actually answer your question, the light rail goes through the intensely populated areas-like straight through uptown, university area, etc, so it has to be a lot more careful. They do speed when covering the distances between heavily populated areas. Whereas the freight trains are moreso on the outskirts and not making constant stops. Though they will slow down going across roads sometimes. I do agree there should be regulations on it. But that's my 2 cents on it

Does anyone know what that white light on the top of the crossing signal is? It can be seen at 0:40, and it’s above the red oscillating crossing lights and behind the crossbuck. Anyone know what this is?
@YoLikeRyder
@YoLikeRyder 3 жыл бұрын
Oliver's Elevators My guess is, that white light illuminates when the red signals start flashing, to notify the train operator that the red signals are working. That way, the operator can confidently take the train through the crossing.
@OliversElevators
@OliversElevators 3 жыл бұрын
@@YoLikeRyder yeah, that seems about right. But it also seems like these trains could stop quick enough to stop before reaching the crossing in case the operator saw that the lights weren’t working, so I’m not exactly sure why they’re even there. Food for thought...
@blue9multimediagroup
@blue9multimediagroup 2 жыл бұрын
@@YoLikeRyder that's exactly what they're for. They let the operator know that the gates are down and that the crossing is protected. This way, they don't have to completely slow down and can keep the line moving without delay.

They need to start making Light Rail above the streets just like they do the subway and just build it as look like it runs along the middle of the streets they actually need to start building an elevated above the streets and that's all across the country

It didn't have high population density around it when you commented this, that's changed a lot and it's continuing to. It has really been a catalyst for development. A lot of people that work in the central business district now live on the line in new apartments and townhomes. The ridership has gone up a lot. right now the frequency is abysmal because of staffing shortages, so it's deterred riders.

I like a trolley when I want to tour & sight see a city i’m visiting, but if i’m living in a city & need public transportation I would want it to be heavy rail trains. Heavy rail trains are faster & gets you where you need to go quickly. Light rail trains are too slow this video is a prime example.
@CityLifeinAmerica
@CityLifeinAmerica 4 жыл бұрын
Most US cities can’t support a heavy rail. Light Rail works for these cities like Phoenix. They’re too sprawled out for a heavy rail.
@hlatino03
@hlatino03 4 жыл бұрын
Why would you want them to be fast ? Light Rail is just that ....to connect between stops within the city. You are confusing it if with Speed Trains which connects cities within the state or other cities near by.....Example: Charlotte to Raleigh/Durham....that would need to be a Speed Rail. Miami/Ft Lauderdale/West Palm Beach just build one and it great....not many stops unlike "Light Rail" This Light Rail is perfect for Charlotte. I cannot wait until they build the Silver Line.
@mskeenac21
@mskeenac21 4 жыл бұрын
@@hlatino03 I know Speed rails are what you said they are, but i'm talking about heavy rails like the one in DC. Those are much faster than light rails. Example if I need to get to work I know I would be late for work because it's too slow. If I was on a heavy rail train, yes it would be many stops. I really think I would get there on time even if it's a minute before it's time to clock in. I have family in Charlotte & was told it took forever & a day just to get to a place that is 10 mins away in driving time. That's something I wouldn't like. If a city has both ie: Baltimore i'll be ok with that, but if it's nothing but light rail I won't like it.
@hlatino03
@hlatino03 4 жыл бұрын
@@mskeenac21 Cannot compare DC with Charlotte....Apples to Oranges. you mentioned that it took your family forever to get to a place that is 10 mins drive away? That makes no sense......I wonder from which station to what station that was. The Blue line is only 22 miles from each end.....is just a matter of getting to the station early to hop on that train. I know what you mean. I just moved to Charlotte from Miami, FL and Miami is the first city in the USA with High Speed Rail....although we do not have light rail YET.
@DavidThomas-xe2mb
@DavidThomas-xe2mb Жыл бұрын
@@hlatino03 The blue line is 19 miles, Miami does not have high speed rail, and the lightrail is about as fast as driving when there's no congestion.
