Had to stick around for this - I grew up in Norfolk (Ocean View area and Norview). It's changed a lot in the 50 years I've been gone. Went into the Air Force right now, 50 years ago and never came back except to visit family.

Down to the hall. Reminds me of that movie Action In The North Atlantic. They are at the union hall looking looking to ship out. Their last ship was torpedoed. Classic movie!

I guess I need to check that movie out....sounds awesome, Thanks....

Always, I enjoyed the tour!! I’ve never been to VA. Looks beautiful! I’ve had only 1 train/Marta experience, Atlanta, it was packed, sweltering & no A/C. Stepped off & a sign read, Welcome to Atlanta, We have Air Conditioning!

Nice to se some pictures from this beautiful part of US. I was working in NC just before Corona break loose in 2020 I miss the climate quite warm even in December. Beautiful surroundings like Blue Ridge Parkway I drove it in full length. Miss it a lot and miss US

I used to live in VA Bch. Birdneck and 44 - Apartments there when I rode carriers. I remember being in the pattern of RWY 5 at Oceana. Super loud back then with Tomcats, Intruders and Hornets. I don't think we had the Norfolk Tide back in the 90's. Good luck with your search!

Yes Jimmy and now for a long time 44 is no longer it is all just 264. Thanks for dropping in and have a great day.

This is a great little vlog, and thanks for making it! Smaller LRT systems like the Tide don’t get a lot of coverage so it’s always nice to see more of it. Hope you can find the contract you’re looking for!

I use to ride the LA Metro into downtown when I had to go end. Even with a company car and being paid while I dove, it beat the 1 to 2+ hr drive 😁😁

Yes Red, it is always more relaxing especially in the situation you mentioned. I can't imagine driving in LA...

I've enjoyed your videos very much, especially those when you're describing your onboard life and duties. You always seem to do so with lots of happiness and enthusiasm, lucky you to so enjoy your work The title of this video, job search, reminded me of a thought I've had while watching your work. Your industry is new to me and something I've never known much about, so I appreciate the insights. Comparing many of the important things you do - fabricating metal parts, welding, fixing so many broken and rusted things, all seem very important. But other "engine department" videos I've seen done by others show individuals more focused on operation, maintenance and troubleshooting related to main engines, generator engines, water production and environmental machinery and all the other essential peripheral systems needed for the operation of ships. You seem to not spend your working time involved with such things. Is that true? Why? Thanks again, best wishes to find another assignment.

Hi :) I thought you had an employment contract with Maersk Line? Or have you chosen to be "a free bird", so you can choose which shipping company you want to sail with? :)
@JeffOnboard3 жыл бұрын
Yes I always choose Maersk ships, but after a contract ends you look for a new one and you have a 100% choice of where and when you go. I had a 2 year working contract on the Maersk Montana and my last one was a 1 trip relief job for 77 days. Contracts vary extremely. I hope this makes sense. I am currently seeking a new ship and yes Maersk Line.

If you would have taken the job on the west coast, would you pay for transportation to get there?

No the company always sets that up.

Enjoy your videos, interesting. Do you always have to go the Union Hall to get your jobs?
@JeffOnboard3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate that James....and yes.....even if you have a job you go back to after vacation you still have to clear through the hall as well.....

What happens when you can’t load or unload and your contract is up. Like when a ship is stuck out off LA and can’t unload.

confused...i thought you work for maersk? you mean that you dont and are just a freelancer? so you could work for yang ming or cosco or other shipping lines?......
@JeffOnboard3 жыл бұрын
I always choose Maersk, but we all work through unions. I just choose all Maersk contracts because it is what I like.
