I feel like lightroom is better if you want a simple edit, if you want to mostly retouch the colors: landscape, street photography. But Photoshop is better if you need to remove and add elements, skin retouching, so portrait photography, makeup and fashion... That's just my opinion enyways ^^

I used to use Photoshop because it is what i spent years studying and what i found to be more professional. The time and effort it took me to edit each picture in Photoshop ended up frustrating me and eventually made me stop enjoying taking pictures, because i would think about every shoot as something that would require hours and hours of processing afterwards. After a small break i took from photography, i decided to give Lightroom a try, and i couldn't be happier!! I was able to edit so much faster and even with the constraints lightroom had i was really happy with the results. In my opinion, you shouldn't limit yourself to only one program and you should explore and learn about alternatives, that been said, i'm so glad i started using Lightroom because it made me fall back in love with photography!

frankly speaking, you didn‘t even use the possibilities Lightroom offers you. You didn‘t do any Dodge and Burn in Lightroom, not making use of the brushtools and masking... To me it seems you are more comfortable to use Photoshop than Lightroom. Rhats totally fine and really like your results, but don‘t just say Lightroom Users limit themselfes when you do not even use 50% of what Lightroom can do. Keep up the good work though 😊

@hannahelireb 5 жыл бұрын
Paloma Rodriguez Jara Color Correction is making all the colors true to what you see in person, sometimes different lighting and such can cause a color cast on your photos and different cameras have different color profiles, so we have to correct for that. Color Grading is bringing in more stylized looks, like if you want the photo to look like film or change the mood of the photo, things like split toning and such. Usually you color correct for accuracy and then color grade for the final look.

I would like this more if there was the same knowledge in lightroom as there is photoshop, knowing one over the other will obviously change the results. Also maybe edit them the exact same way in both programs? Not sure if that was the goal or if I missed it (I skipped through the intro because I don't pay attention to over 30 seconds of chatter) but it seems they were edited differently and that might be due to the bias of the programs. This is very photoshop heavy and I don't think that's a fair comparison video.

I agree with a lot of people here - a lot of professionals use a combo of the two. Lightroom is more fluid for color when you know how to use the tone curves and the tools you glazed over, while Photoshop is absolutely better at retouching. It’s important to acknowledge that knowing how to use all the tools that are at your disposal (or at least going to show in a video) is vital for creating strong images.

The PS version of the headshoot (2nd photo) looks heavy-handed in the skin smoothing. It has that typical frequency separation look. I bet it took you 10x longer to do the edits in PS. The LR edits looked quick so of course it won't look as polished. You didn't do any dodging and burning for one thing; and doesn't look like you healed the blemishes. I use Capture One, but, I'm pretty sure LR can do these things. You should open up a couple of your photos for a community edit just to see how others would edit them. I'm curious to see the comparisons if someone actually takes their time on LR (or Capture One).

I feel like the photographers are pushing Lightroom (more) is to sell their presets. Because what's not to love? Put on a preset, tweak here and there and voila! Post on insta or where ever. Love your sense of humor! I started my days in photography with film and when you had to know and understand hiperfocal distance of your lens. Understanding composition, lighting and flash fill. Today the best part is no waste; and by that I mean no waste of film! I love photography, the best advice I can give anyone is spend your money on quality lenses. Todays DSLRs are so good that the inexpensive cameras will give you beautiful pictures if you pare it up with good glass ( lens). keep in mind that camera technology gets better all the time but don't get suckered in buying the latest new thing when you haven't reached the full potential of what you have, after all; you can't tell what camera was used to create the beautiful picture! A camera is only as good as the person who masters the camera. I hope 🤞 I made some sense, keep up the good work.

Don't forget you could just download you images to the Adobe Bridge, their file browser, and open them up in the Raw dialogue in Photoshop, they're the same tools as in the Develop section of Lightroom but with a different UI, then open them up from there into Photoshop. There's no need to go anywhere near Lightroom. The current version of Lightroom Classic CC is 8.2 and the current version of Raw in Photoshop 20 is 11.2, it will always be 3 ahead as it had been upgraded several times before Lightroom came out.

One would have to ask how fair the comparison really is. I treat Lightroom as a raw converter in the first place. Photoshop is much more powerful and complex which doesn‘t necessarily make it better. I think that learning photoshop is beneficial nonetheless and also you have it by default when you have the Adobe CC subscription anyway.

I’ve been using lightroom only lately and I am very pleased with the results I get. I think if you know what you’re doing and if you experiment with all the possibilities, you’ll get results really close to what you could do with photoshop in terms of lighting, skin retouch and toning. To me photoshop is much more complete and is more for image creations, cutting, adding, removing, illustrating, etc. And lightroom is a great ‘’basic but fundamentals” post production

I never made the jump to Lightroom because I honestly can't work with toggles and presets. It can work with a picture, but I can't make it work as a general rule. I find that most of my editing is focused on small portions, I can't slather one uniform edit on everything. Total respect to anyone you can make it work, but I love the freedom Photoshop gives me.

The photoshop edits look like magazine shoots and brand building edits. The Lightroom edits look more personal/Instagram. Both are great but look like they’re for different uses. I prefer the photoshop on all but the last shot.

I usually do certain edits in Lightroom relating to colours, highlights, shadows ect then use Photoshop to do the retouching and maybe some colour grading. The 1 time I tried to retouch a photo in Lightroom I failed miserably lol.

Lightroom> Photoshop here I'd say, maybe its because of how you edited it. The one you did on Lightroom pops more and makes for a more attractive picture to look at!

In some instances I actually like the Lightroom Edit better than the PS edit. Not to say that it wasn't a lot of work, and everyone has their own eye and own style, but in some pictures the imperfections of the skin made the photo emit more emotion and looked better to me personally. In some however, PS looked better, like the girl with the leaf. Because the style of very surreal and cool green tones like a fairy almost, the perfection of her skin and all worked. A really interesting video!! Especially since there's so many opinions in the comments. Thanks for doing this

I think among the two, lightroom is better for color grading and retouching while photoshop for any manipulation or other corrections. Atleast that's how I use both of them. I frankly couldn't do without anyone of these. I need both.

Why not use both programs? Adobe does allow you to transfer photographs from each program to the other, while keeping the quality, effects and changes the same. That helps you do better editing because you can use both programs for the intended purpose.

This was a good video, I haven't seen anyone talk about the two and I personally use both and I think that both are good, it just depends on what photos you have to edit. Lightroom is not designed to do retouching, even though it has some tools (dodge and burn, feathering, masking) you won't get bad results at all if you use them, but it is easier to do it in photoshop. I think the same can be said about photoshop and capture one. They are both great for retouching, but capture one is dominating in the fashion industry. It is all about preference and workflow and you just happen to favor photoshop because it works for your type of photos.

Wow this was great. I'm glad you set this video up the way that you did. I had myself convinced that lightroom was so much better due to the fact that it naturally gives you a lot short cuts. When comparing light vs. photoshop it's clear to see that photo shop def gives you more range with editing. Photoshop also gives you more opportunity to add more elegance to your photos.

Do you guys remember that the two softwares are from adobe, there is a reason both exist. Is not a matter of which one is better. Try repeating same settings to 100 photos in photoshop and see how much time it'll take you. lightroom for workflow, photoshop for details.

The main purpose of Lightroom is for Organizing and Pre-editing RAW Files, meaning creating a constant luminance and color among all the photos from a job, fix horizons and It has many features including simple retouching. If you were to edit RAW files from a set in Photoshop, it would be almost impossible to maintain a constant color balance among all photos. A wedding or event photographer would save over 50 hours in color balancing using Lightroom, a photo session would save a few hours and if shooting tethered by color balancing the first photo and then using "Same As Previous" for the others, that alone saves a few hours. To remove blemishes, Photoshop far exceeds Lightroom's simple brushes. but Photoshop is for more advanced editing (Freq Sep, Color Grading, Composites, etc, etc and many more etc) of a few images. If you do a wedding only in Photoshop it might take weeks or months, but if you use both Lightroom and Photoshop it will take one or two days maximum, three or four days if you take a few timeouts to enjoy a couple of Margaritas LOL. Mainy Photoshop does each and everything that Lightroom does and much much more, but Lightroom saves lots of time as it is extremely faster than Photoshop when preparing RAW files for final edits and organizes you RAW files. Just open 10 RAW images in lightroom and simply adjust highlight and shadows, then do the same in Photoshop, by the time you open one image in Photoshop, create a proper layer copy, open the Camara Raw, make the adjustments, maybe you realize that you went a bit far in opening shadows, have to again go to Camera Raw make the correction and save the file, you would have done all 10 images in Lightroom

It seems like to me that the difference between the two is a kin to driving a car: automatic (Lr) vs. manual/stick-shift (Ps). Most cars nowadays do the gear shifting for you and it mostly gets the job done. But if you want to have more control over your vehicle, you drive a stick-shift. Lightroom has a ton of pre-sets and easy editing tools that create a really low barrier-to-entry for either beginners or photographers/editors looking to make quick edits. Then Photoshop has a higher variation and intricacy of tools that take an adjustment to learn, but ultimately allow for far more specific editing to photos that you might not be capable of otherwise. Or to keep it real simple, iPhone vs. Android. Either way, great vid for depicting the differences!

i like lightroom when im editing more personal type photos (ones i took for my family or friends at an event or something) but when im doing something more artistic and fun i think photoshop is way better. i notice most people are torn over how they edit skin in their photos, personally i don't really like editing skin in photoshop or lightroom that much unless its something that distracts from the rest of the photo

When I do get photography plan from Adobe, I’ll mostly use Lightroom to edit and fix all my regular photos I take when I’m out for walks, while photoshop I’ll use for doing harsher edits, adding filters and illustrations to the pictures, and just playing around with the photos. I’ll also use photoshop to draw stuff separately.

Lightroom is for beginners, photoshop is for intermediate to advanced. I started with snapseed, then to lightroom now I’m dabbling with photoshop. Because as you progress you get unsatisfied and limited with the program you’re currently using. You know that’s the time to level up.
