I bought the boxed version just recently - it's still in print, but they keep selling out of copies. Which I guess is a good sign!

I would have liked to see a comparison of a physical prop with the new photo version to see how much you lose by going from 3D to 2D. Other than that it was a good overview. The description doesn't have the mentioned timestamps, and links to the products would be useful to add there as well. Will be interesting to see if this format catches on for SHCD style cases in general. Space Cowboys doesn't seem interested in releasing boxsets for SHCD anymore, so maybe they could try longer standalone cases like this? Most SHCD fans own at least one version of the game, so they already have a large map and separate directory so that wouldn't be a downgrade. The only thing lost would be the large newspapers.

Added link to the amazon page for the book -- thanks for reminding me.. People can be very sensitive to spoilers so I didn't want to show any of the evidence props. They are just simple photos but in this game nothing is lost. One thing I *do* wish I had gone into more detail with is comparing the maps, as on closer look it seems like the maps in the book may actually be missing a little bit, though probably nothing important.

For the price point it really is an incredible deal. I hope this does well for them and they can print more in the series. My only minor gripe is that they didn't put the solution section at the back of the book. It seems weird to have it before the newspaper, maps etc..

I don't think the $17 price point is quite an incredible deal YET.. But this is definitely the way to go for those of us who are a bit more cost conscience, and you should expect to be able to pick this up for under $10 on sale I would think.

I am new to the genre and I bought the book, I actually got the Sherlock box with Jack the Ripper for my birthday which was back on April 26 and I’m only on the first non-Jack the Ripper case because they suggest that you skip the first four cases if you’re new to the genre and so far I love it. As for Lights Camera Murder, I hope to pick up the box format sometime in the future, hopefully from their website. I do like the portability of the book because I’m able to take it with me to doctors offices and read through and take notes while I’m waiting. I really wish to come out with the Kindle edition because it would be nice to be able to flip back-and-forth between the Kindle and the physical book, I do that often with other books. Anyway, so far I’m enjoying it. I would like to have the props but I don’t miss them. It’s just the collector in me that would like to have them, but with the cost of things and maybe with the the storage of it because I rarely get rid of any of the games that I have bought, the book is the best way to go

Hi Annette. There are so many great games in this style, you have a whole world to discover now. My favorite of the SHCD boxes to recommend is the green Baker Street Irregulars box. There is a good reason that they suggest skipping the Jack the Ripper cases in the red box that you have -- those cases are very unusual and mostly unsatisfying because they are based on the true story of Jack the Ripper and don't have satisfying solutions. The props in these kinds of games seem wasteful to me -- the only time I think they make sense to spend extra for them is if you are playing in a group and the entire group can get some enjoyment from the novelty. If playing by myself they do nothing for me but remind me of the money I spent for a gimmick :) Are you playing these games by yourself or with others? I find that playing with at least one more person makes a huge difference in terms of enjoyment -- just having someone to talk to about the cases.. Or even if you just have someone to bounce ideas off of. But they are fun solo too.

@@COOPFORTWO HI! I am typically a solo player and my game of choice is Deadbolt! I finally finished my goal of getting every box they've made, I have twentysome left to play. Recently a bunch of us created a group on Facebook for group play. We are starting to branch out onto other boxes. We're doing a Hunt a Killer box set next weekend. Maybe I can see if the group would like to branch out further. I have mixed feelings about playing in a group, there's pros and there's cons but when we're having fun the pro's outweigh the cons. I started with HAK before I found Deadbolt and am also working on the A Killing Affair games. I have most of their games, too. I've also played Cryptic Killer's, just receiving their latest one last week, I have the 3 ThinkFun Cold Case, The Murder Mystery Party Case Files, a bunch of the Unsolved Case Files, and I can go on and on. I saw my first video by you where you rated the 10 longest games regarding play times and I ended up adding most of them to my wish list and that how I received my first Sherlock box. Because of my buying history, Lights ... Camera ... Murder book made to my Amazon front back on one of my log ins. I have the 3 games on my personal wish list (more like a text file) and when I saw the book I snapped it up. There are still a zillion more I want. I'm retired so I do have a lot of time but I do web design on the side so I can save up to purchase the games I want. I am usually rotating through a few games where I will spend so much time each night on a different game. I'm currently working on 4 - Lights, Camera, Murder - The Case of the Missing Eyes by Deadbolt (which I need to finish today) - Murder Mystery Box Sugar Frosted Murder - Murder at Mediluck Medicines. I love watching your videos so I started watching some for games I've already played to see what you've done differently. I've only watched one full video so far but have watched a few spoiler free reviews. I had all the SHCD on my wish list, in time, I've get the rest. I started the one case yesterday just to see what it's like but I put it aside until I finish one of the games I'm playing right now. I like it and I like Lights, so far, too! I love being able to solve puzzles - all kinds!

@@COOPFORTWO Just another observation. I mentioned that I wished that Lights would also be available in Kindle format. There's the reason I already mentioned but think about how nice it would be to have the directory hyperlinked!

@@amciotola Oh wow you are really trying a good variety of these. The Deadbolt Mystery Society has really impressed me with its combination of narrative and puzzles. While I'm not generally a puzzle escape room person, they make it work. We'll be slowly working our way through their entire catalog. Do you have some favorites?
@amciotola Жыл бұрын
@@COOPFORTWO My #1 favorite is The Cleansing of Killian House. Then there's The Darkroom Devil (many of us hope they do a sequel to this), Snowbound, Follow the Leader, Cape Anne (this was absolute campy fun!), Flashback, Last Resort, Blast from the Past, and any of the Rosemary Clark boxes. A lot of what I have left to play are the older boxes so that list might change or grow.

In the UK this is c£12.50 delivered if you have Amazon Prime, seems a good price point to me, but I’d have been happy paying a little bit more for a book with a map insert I could remove and put on the table, or maybe a link to a ‘print it yourself’ map - I like a map!
@COOPFORTWO Жыл бұрын
Yeah a larger folded map insert would have been the one thing I would have liked to see.. Though this format is a bit more portable.

For European people, there is probably a massive save on shipping, since it can be ordered from the local Amazon instead of having it shipped form the US.
@COOPFORTWO Жыл бұрын
Good point -- the advantages of this form get even more substantial for people outside the country of the publisher of these kinds of games.
