Using the all thread on the lights rather then the chain is genius!! I’m definitely going to use that in the future. Thank you for the planer update as well!! Keeping the rollers clean is key in my experience. As always keep up the great work and thank you for another fantastic Sunday update.

Thanks so much Harry. Yes, I didn't want the chains dangling and moving in the wind and it just so happened the threaded rod fitted really well. 👍🏻

Hi Ian, I have experience of diesel heaters (camervans) two things, the unit has to go though a cool down cycle when you switch it off, so I would connect to a 12 volt battery in case your power source dies. If the unit doesn’t do it’s shutdown cycle it usually destroys the control board. These are available as Spare parts. 2nd thing the exhaust gets very hot, I would make the whole in the shelf bigger but also the one though the wall. Those lights look fab. Great progress, Happy Halloween to you both 👍😃

As to the hot exhaust - there's a Swedish guy that played with running the exhaust pipe through a sand filled tank so as to absorb (instead of piping/dumping it right outsude) more of the produced heat and give it off during a period after the end of the run of the heater. Not sure what the results came to...

Yes, I am redoing the exhaust as I was not too happy about it. Trying to figure out how to get a similar unit in my car (no heating in car) and how does the exhaust get outside- thinking about putting it in the engine compartment (at the rear of car). I am looking for a smaller unit for this.

@@HomesteadingUncontained Vevor (and many other China makes on the usual sites) have units w/o integrated tank, which would likely be easier to place (two smaller bits rather than one bigger)

if the lights still have a faint light when they are off, you can reverse the wires on them. That fixes the issues. i had a similar issue whan i fitted the leds in my garage.... some were still giving off a bit of light.

Run it and see what max temp is....Just so you know, I,m an old Mercedes enthusiast and one of the options on 1970's Mercedes saloons was a heater like this....(taxis mostly that needed to sit for hours waiting for a fare and didn't want to run the engine.) The heater was under the back seat (I still have the fitting instructions manual)...and the insulation was at least 4 inches all around the aperture and it was special fiberglass (the kind that does not transmit heat) In some old films you can see this smoke coming from under the back of old Mercedes Taxis....this is the heater running...our Black cab blokes just wore an overcoat....silly buggers. (I have one of these heaters in my Unimog cab...does it work? in Minus 32 c I was toasty warm..too warm really in such a small space.@@HomesteadingUncontained

Hi to you both been a subscriber from the beginning and enjoy all your content. I can't remember if you have broached this subject in the past but given your need for more electricity why haven't you installed a decent array of solar panels on the garage/workshop roof? Keep up the good work
@HomesteadingUncontained
@HomesteadingUncontained Жыл бұрын
Hi there - the plan is to put 18 panels on the roof of the workshop but it all comes down to budget at the moment. I am building out the small tech room as the solar room but it will be a while before I can equip it. So, once the portable power stations 😬

Anmother great video you two. You will find the exhaust temp. is very high, and I have installed my heater in my workshop and passed the exhaust gas tyhrough a small central heating radiator and thus gain more heat. Another tip is there are two yypes of central heating oil on the market. kerosene and 35 second gas oil. both with less tax on them, try and stick to the diesel or 35 second gas oil as you will get less wear on the solenoid pump. Keep up the great content.

Yes The heat is a problem and I am going to modify it. We can only get diesel at the pumps. We have heating diesel delivered in a truck (red) which I syphon off for other small uses 😀

I need to install an exhaust fan or two in my shop but I just haven't decided where to put them. I may end up putting one in down low so I can use it for blowing dust out of the shop. Sadly none of them are reversible which would be handy. My old red hard to see laser recently died and I have been looking at that one and a few others as a replacement. Looks like a decent unit. For OSB prices. I'm in North TX and I am paying $11-13 a sheet for 1/2" right now. around 5 months ago it was under $8 a sheet. It had hit a high of around $50 a sheet just over a year ago. Plumbing pipe and electrical supplies are still at nearly all time highs though. I'm expecting lumber prices to drop in the next month because new builds have slowed down and the inventory at the suppliers is starting to overflow. If it goes down enough I'll pick up a pallet or so to finish off the shop interior. Wow the taxes on that little tool for the planer were pricey. Need anything from the US as I can bring it with me...
@HomesteadingUncontained
@HomesteadingUncontained Жыл бұрын
The taxes would have been zero and even VAT free for us a few years ago - but BREXIT changed all of that, so buying from the UK is like buying from the other side of the world. But if timber prices are so low in the US it would be worth a container just to get some here.

On the fan frame outside when you fit the rest of the Sidings. Would it be worth putting some sort of shield on the top so the rain doesn't site on the flat. Just a thought. I have a diesel heater fitted in my workshop, just to be safe side, I fitted a carbon monoxide detector.

Red Kite......??? Hmmm here in Eastern Poland we have a similar bird....yes they have taken some of my free range chickens...and even tried their hand at kittens.....they are RED...but they re bigger than the Red Kite...and close up look like a small eagle....the local word for them is pronounced......YASH..CHOMP....I know I know....I should be able to write it in Polish by now....all I know is that they are big enough for one's wings to stretch from side to side of the bonnet of my Jeep Wrangler...(one of them swooped across the front of the car when we were travelling slowly...I was amazed at how big it was - even with big welding gauntlets i would be wary of handling one).

I remember when Google made so much money, it was embarrassing. So they gave away such a lot, such as the maps and street view. They took over KZbin which was free but now it's full of advertising and has stopped me from using Adblock. Very soon I shall be zapping KZbin, I'll miss many good shows such as yours, but there is far too much distraction. Quite spoils it.
@HomesteadingUncontained
@HomesteadingUncontained Жыл бұрын
I hear you...I don't have any TV subscriptions and I watch KZbin a lot and got fed up of the adverts but I did subscribe to their premium (about €12 a month) and it is ad free. Saves a lot of time flicking through so I think it was worth the money. Some people spends hundreds on various streaming subs and they still get adverts. Keep watching 👀 👍🏻
