This video brought tears to my eyes. 😢 Will share to family and neighbors. I turn off my lights at night and have bird decals on certain windows during daytime. Thanks, Cornell, for all you do to protect these marvelous little creatures.

The fact that I love birds the most out of ANY animals in the world just makes this video so much better. I love it so so much! 😍 Great animation and music! 🤩

Did you know birds don’t cry tears of emotion but cry tears than threatened and the tears actually don’t go out of the eyes and you can’t see them and they just make their eyes wetter.

🙏🏼 Praying that all of the beautiful birds have a safe, happy, and trouble-free journey, with plenty of food and shelter along their way ❤

A shame that no one really thinks or cares about light pollution. I think that the American Solidarity Party is the only one that really addresses it and supports Dark Sky initiatives directly in their platform. I think it would've been good to include some other tools needed for reducing light pollution, such as blackout curtains (something individuals are able to do), and streetlights that give off an appropriate amount of light for its purpose, obscuring the light that would otherwise be produced towards the top, as it is usually superfluous. We also really should stop making glass rectangles in our cities. Not only are they ugly, but they're worse for migratory birds and for managing heat. A more traditional style that doesn't make a wall of glass, together with awnings, would help reduce the heat and reduce the need for excess electricity being used on air conditioning to fix a problem we ourselves partially created through our architectural choices. And naturally, the smaller area of glass, sometimes being covered by an awning, would likely reduce the number of birds flying into them.

From an astronomical end of things, there are other organizations out there to help to eliminate light pollution (now more and more referred to as Dark Sky pollution cause the light is not the thing being polluted but actually light is the polluter of dark skies!). One such organization started years ago n AZ in Phoenix is called the Dark Sky Coalition. Main objective is to find ways for all our human construct and civilization- induced light because it MUST be minimized now & into the future as well as used more wisely (like light shields on top of lamps & ones that project light downward and at lower wattages, especially stadium lights!), to preserve Dark Night Sky Navigation for us and future generations to truly SEE the stars from our Earthly perspective! At the same time, these actions will only serve to help all our living neighbors to humans, especially the birds in all our urban islands unmasked in light which are growing by leaps & bounds! Into the near future!!!

Thank you for raising awareness on such an important topic! Keep up the great work.

You should do a second video to encourage suburban residents to minimize the outdoor lighting at night as well. Way too easy for these suburban folks to think the problem is just in urban areas.

Y'all know about the Dark Sky Association? A nonprofit organization doing great work to educate about light pollution and advocate for dark skies. See their 5 principles for good lighting. I support them and the Lab of O every year.

They should make a video about suburban light pollution...many folks will see this and think, "oh, they're talking about cities, not my own backyard".

I love birds. They're magnificent and beautiful modern dinosaurs. I hope we're able to take the action necessary to protect the many species that we're threatening.

It is ridiculous the way we light cities at night but safety is a concern too. Just street lights would dim them quite a bit. Just amazing how we are destroying our planet and don't care !

Is there any way to pressure cities to dim streetlights &c. for this?

T_T This is why we keep our lights off or keep our curtains closed if we cannot turn off the lights yet.

This applies to everyone around the world (especially in the north) Keep the lights off!!!!

It also saves electricity/ money to turn off lights when we don't need them.

It seems to me there are many more birds in the city than in the country? I live sometimes in ottawa, sometimes on the manitoulin. There are ten times more birds in ottawa? What’s up with that?
@marlyndonnelly22068 ай бұрын
Are they local birds? In the city where I live there are so many more ‘introduced’ species such as starlings and sparrows as opposed to local species like jays, cardinals and grackles. *edited for spelling correction

And now it's much worse because of the useless LED law. Reality is, very few will go along with this.
