@@vaultboy4710 It was. The makers of this movie literally invented many filming and animation devices and techniques, because the cameras, etc., that already existed couldn't do what this movie needed. A prime example of the old maxim, "Necessity is the mother of invention."

This movie came out the summer of my high school graduation, and it really was life-changing! Millions of people all over the world were fascinated and enthusiastic! I wish people younger than me could have experienced what a worldwide phenomenon it was.
